My whole family has been going to Dr. Emmet for more than 15 years. Once, about a month after my mother died from skin cancer, (Dr. Emmet had offered to treat her for free for the rest of her life, but, sadly, she declined) I took one of my sun-loving, surfer sons to see Dr. Emmet to have him look at a brown spot on my son's face. He looked at the spot closely, then turned and said, "It's just a mole, nothing to worry about. You, on the other hand, have a spot that looks like basal cell cancer." Though I hadn't gone in for myself, Dr. Emmet took a biopsy from a small spot on my nose. A day or two later he confirmed it was skin cancer. Eventually, I had to have surgery to remove the cancer and have plastic surgery to repair the almost nickel-sized hole it left on one side of my nose. The cancer was about the size of a pin point when Dr. Emmet diagnosed it during my son's visit. If he hadn't seen it when he did, the cancer would have been much more serious. Needless to say, my whole family visits Dr. Emmet regularly to be checked for skin cancer and other skin issues. He is an amazingly intelligent and knowledgeable doctor.
One warning: Dr. Emmet is a major-league sun hater--he wants everyone to wear sun-proof hats and clothing and be baby white. (One of my sons always lets his tan fade before he goes to see him.) He's also not shy--he's very straightforward and honest, no mincing of words. I know a sensitive teen girl and her mother who left his office crying because he'd hurt their feelings. Personally, I'd rather have my feelings hurt and be told the truth in a straightforward manner than be coddled.
