We were going to move in this weekend, in fact i had my power turn on and everything and the day i was to sign the final paper work and get the keys, everything changed! we were not sure with complex to go with and we were not sure about summer wind because for the amount of money they want for a apartment there were some things that could be up dated, like old appliances and the exterior need work. we like the staff very much and felt comfortable there. We told them we would have to think about moving there and we were honest about why. they called us back a hour later and offered a free month. We did ask twice how the month could be applied. Could we have a full month, prorated it, or split it up. They said we could use it anyway we choose, we then decided to do all the paper work and deposit. i took 4 days to find out if we were approved. Well turns out the day before the move we found out the manager had still not oked everything. I was very stressed by this time. At the last moment we were told we could not get the free month unless we prorated it over the year and that we had to pay that all up front. My boyfriend tried to talk to her about the agreement we had with them, suddenly she did not remember agreeing to that at all. When she called back she became very rude and said they could do nothing about it and if we wanted to live there we had to pay it. when we told her we felt lied to, she then basically told him, never mind then we do not want you living here. I demanded copys of everything that was sign and we were told we would get our deposit back in the mail since it had already been put in. She told us only 200.00 dollars was refundable so we wound have to eat the other 220.00. If you break the agreement they can legally keep that money. Even though she broke the agreement it is basically her word against ours and only we know the truth! Always look into the management history, If they change managers every 6 months that a big red flag!

Pros: feels welcoming at first!

Cons: staff seems nice until they have your money, looks can be deceiving!

If you are smart do not live here! If you do decide to live here get everything in writing because they will lie to you to get your money! We were gonna move in this weekend, in fact i had my power turn on and everything and the day i was to sign the final paper work and get the keys, everything changed! Me and my boyfriend visited the complex three times to get a good feel for the place and even though we never met the manager before everyone else seemed great very nice in fact! we were not sure with complex to go with and we were not sure about summer wind because for the amount of money they want for a apartment they were somethings that could be up dated, like old appliances and the exterior need work. For the same amount of money there were newer places we could live but, we like the staff very much and felt comfortable there. We told them we would have to think about moving there and we were honest about why. After we left we received a call back from the girl that had been helping us that she had talked to her manager and shared our concerns and the manager had offered the give us a month free. We did ask twice how the month could be applied . We were told anyway we choose to use it is fine. We could have a full month, prorated it, or split it up. so we returned and decided to do our applications and pay the deposit. 420.00 later and were told we would find out if we were approved with in 72 hours. So the weekend passed and by tuesday my boyfriend called back and was told everything was good and we could start planning to move. Well turn out the day before the move we found out the manager had still not oked everything. I was very stressed by this time. well finally we got that resolved. finally moving day we are about to sign the rest of the paper work. Since we were moving in mid month we decided to pay half a month and get the 2nd month free. At the last moment we were told we could not get the free month unless we prorated it over the year and that we had to pay that all up front, talk about disappointment. My boyfriend tried to talk to her about the agreement we had with them suddenly she did not remember agreeing to that at all. She said she would talk to corporate and call him back. When she called back she became very rude and said they could do nothing about it and if we wanted to live there we had to pay it. He told her he felt like we were lied to and being ripped off and he was gonna have to call around for some advice on the situation. She then basically told him, never mind then we do not want you living here. I was so mad and told him i would met him over there to get our deposit back! I got copys of everything that was sign and we were told we would get our deposit back in the mail since it had already been put in. We also requested that in writing. She told us only 200.00 dollars was refundable so we wound have to eat the other 220.00. If you break the agreement they can legally keep that money. Even though she broke the agreement it basically her word against ours and only we know the truth!I guess the most disappointing thing to me was when we left we went to a different complex to see about their availability and she had called the other property to warn them that we were coming. i thought that was very unprofessional not to mention unethical. So please learn from my mistakes. Do not just trust people to be honest ,get it in writing and always research the property. They might of had good reviews in the past but, if a place changes managers or management every six months if should be a red flag. Remember sometimes if there are too many problems it just not worth it.

Southwind Apartments is an o.k. community to live in. The staff is somewhat helpful when you need things, and maintenance is pretty quick to fix problems in the house (except for the room they need to repaint, which remains gray with black stipes, yuck). Forget about getting a new gate remote or batteries if they die. The pool is clean and the grounds are well kept. The apartment wasn't clean when we moved in, but they cleaned and fixed the problems within the first few days. Overall, I think we pay a little too much for the level of service we are receiving. We've moved seven times around the country and have rented the entire time. This rental experience is close to the bottom of the list, ranking a 4 out of 10. The main factor is the extremely!!! poor insulation between apartments. Plan on losing sleep if you have noisy or heavy footed neighbors. My recommendation...move in if it's just a short term lease. Boy will that newly built home be a sight for tired eyes when we leave.

Pros: Good, not great maintenance, clean facilities

Cons: Poor parking some areas, poor insulation, no footpaths

Expect a big bill when you move out for repainting the walls. I hung up 3 pictures and had to pay to have the entire house repainted costing me over 300 dollars. Other problems include a horrible location right off of 518. Expect to hear ambulances and traffic all day and night long. Also you will have to wait about 5 minutes just to cross the street in the morning. They take forever to fix anything so expect to wait a few days before anything gets fixed. Overall, I would stay away from these apartments.

Pros: none
