I like this spot, sometimes there can be a little bit of a wait, but that is simply because we all love it here. It is about as comfortable as a visit can get. You won't find myself any place else, without doubt! Highly recommended.

This place is trully awesome. I've been here at least 10 times in the past year; yes its mostly difficult for people to get in unless your on a guest list or staying at the hotel but hey, thats Hollywood. The drinks are resonably priced,

It'd be great if there were ACTUAL reviews containing useful information about Skybar, rather than all this promotion for how to get on the guest list or "bottle service" -- which is really expensive, BTW.

Working in an open kitchen must be like working in a cubicle without walls. Freakin' scary, you ask? Yes.

The pressure must be on to be on point at all times, or umm. at least quit getting Twinkie crumbs (while twittering) all over your desk :-/

It must scream supreme confidence that RH boasts a sprawling open kitchen. No, not just a glimpse of the kitchen over a bar (ala sushi houses) or only restricted to certain seats; but the kitchen literally takes up the majority of the dining area from one side to the other. It's like watching Top Chef Live but having the opportunity to eat the food. This. is. it. or until they invent a way for me to grab things out of my TV Willy Wonka style.

LIke other restaurants such as FIG and JiRaffe, Chef Sebastien Archambault's main driving point is maximizing seasonal ingredients. We start off with a small plate of veggies and delicious bread and their signature drink - the "Mr. Plant, concocted with No. 209 Gin, cucumber, tangerine, agave syrup and soda." According to the bartender, each drink has 1 1/2 freshly squeezed tangerines.

For appetizers we went with the pata negra ham served with tomato crostini and the foie gras terrine. Yes it was a flashback to the Jamon flight at the SLS. Who knew free-range pigs eating only acorns could produce such amazing flavor? I have to note that this ham is cured for 36 months and on average $96 a pound - ballin'! The foie gras was so buttery and smooth. Did you know that the city of Chicago banned production and serving of foie gras from '05 to '08? See you're doing something risky! illegal! It's like murder, but like wayyy more classy. By the way, pata negra and foie gras? I can officially end this meal now in bliss.

The mains can be ordered off the menu as directed by the chef or you can have it 'a la carte' style. You choose your protein and the method which you'd like it cooked (diver scallops, garlic sausage, filet mignon, etc); choose your vegetables (seasonal - mushrooms, asparagus, garlic confit, etc); choose your sauce (pico de gallo, chili and onion chutney, chicken jus, etc); and finally add on any sides that you desire (rice, fries, etc).

Personally, I went with the braised beef cheek with black olives and baby carrots off the menu cuz decisions and committment make me nauseous. I'm pretty sure the beef cheek was simmered in some soy mixture as it was strangely reminiscent of Chinese braised beef. Beef cheek was so tender that a knife was unnecessary.

RH boasts such an extensive menu that it would take many, many trips before you can try everything. Hell, with the many combinations in the a la carte section, I doubt you can ever get stuck ordering the same thing twice.

Next time I'm in town, I am eager to try the 'half dozen shucked oysters with roasted pork sausage' and 'chicken breast filled with foie gras'. Oh, Andaz. You just converted another Westside girl.

Was looking forward to this place because some friends from New York have stayed at the Mondrian.

When we arrived I was a little shocked at the less than desirable entrance but was overtaken by the swing set and violet velvet lounge chair. While waiting on line for the front desk, noticed the flowing and curious decor. The restrooms signs were not posted and had to ask for their location. Luckily I did, because there were no signs on any of the doors and didnt want to see any male bums (well not that early in the evening *wink*).

Once we got to the room, there was a fantasy magical faiy tale mirror that was really a television and the rest of the room just gave the I stepped into a wonderland of beauty [for a hotel room].

Most of our party had arrived so we headed to the Skybar. The evening was going well but the music was sub par. The bouncer overheard us and suggested we talk to the DJ. (We thought really? Most DJ's don't care to hear for requests.) Headed to the DJ and boy, was the bouncer wrong. The DJ was highly offended and gave serious attitude. I returned to the bouncer to apprise him of his faux pas only to be treated as a second class citizen, he wouldnt even listen. Def an F for customer service.

Sadly, we thought we were being down to earth whilst his ego was the size of Jupiter. The bouncer wanted to show us his "power." I hadnt even ordered a drink yet and we were being escorted out. Bottom line, nice chill spot ruined by egotistical bouncers.

Good luck with your visit here.

So many other better places in L.A. where you don't get the attitude and disrespect.

We called and emailed (a ridiculous lengthy email that they requested) a week in advance for 7 people with bottle service (2 guys & 5 hot girls). They never called or emailed back. We went by the door and they wouldn't let us in even though the place was practically empty.

We are in the hospitality business and would never treat customers like that. We went down the street and got right in a great place and spent $800 on bottle service and had a great time. This place has no idea how to treat people, and even if you did get in, it's not worth it!

Attitudes! Expensive! Tons of better places!!!!

DON'T GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like any other place in Hollywood, their drinks are way over priced. The the ambiance and the decor is just gorgeous! The outside setting has a great view because it's on a hill...you can see the lights of LA! Great place to go with friends!

My brother and his fiance came down to LA from Ohio for a weekend visit. They wanted to go to a nice Hollywood hot spot. I personally go to Hollywood every weekend with my friends. We have been to almost all of the hot spots in Hollywood. The reason I didn't say "Been to ALL hotspots" is because we have a few favorite spots that we usually go to every weekend, and so I?ve never been to Sky Bar. My other brother was there before and recommended for us to go there. We go there early, at around 8pm. We were just lounging around, conversating and looking at the beautiful views. We all were laughing, talking, taking pictures, just having a great time. Now I admit we were a little loud. Then at 11:30pm we ordered our FIRST, I repeat, OUR FIRST round of drinks. After the drinks my female cousin and I were walking down the stairs to go the restroom. As we were walking another Sky Bar patron accidentally bumped into me, causing my glasses to drop. My cousin bent down and picked up the glasses for me. As soon as she did that a SkyBar security came up to us and said "You guys are too intoxicated, and I would have to ask you to leave" I was like "WHAT? I only had one drink" and I explained what had just happened and his reply was, "I don?t give a F***, we have the right to kick anyone out" then he Violently grabbed me and my cousin and kicked us out of SkyBar. Then the manager came out to talk to us. She was even ruder than the security. She said that she was observing us the whole night and that we were intoxicated. I told her that if she did "OBSERVE" us the whole night then she should know how many drinks we had. WE HAD ONLY ONE!!! She then said "I saw your group with that African lady and you did look intoxicated" then I replied "Who the hell is African? Just because she's black she's automatically AFRICAN?? She?s American you A**hole" then she just shook her head and walked away. This was the most ridiculous place I?ve been to. If you're not white DONT GO THERE

My boyfriend and I do not typically go out to the strip for an evening out, for various reasons...however a Skybar employee recently offered us a $300 evening out on them, if we would trade for some cakes from the place we work. Our boss was cool and we happily obliged, giving them some very expensive cakes. We made the reservation for the two of us, on our anniversary. When we showed up, the woman in charge sat us down and then looked at the note on the gift card for about 15 seconds, clearly having no idea why we had this comped evening out. Then the first thing she suggested we try was one of their bottles of vodka...for $500. We politely said we were just there to try some champagne and needed some time to look over the menu. When our waitress showed up, what did she have but...a bottle of champagne costing $270. We hadn't even ordered anything yet. We very awkwardly told her that we didn't want the champagne and needed some time to choose something ourselves. The waitress was cool; obviously the woman who sat us was trying to get us to use up the gift card right away so we'd actually be paying customers...Now let me explain. We are not a cheap couple. We were not there to milk the gift card and get a load of free drinks and food. We would have happily paid for anything over $300. But the fact is that we had already paid for the gift card, not in money but in traded items, and we were just there to enjoy our anniversary, not to be pressured to use it all up in the first 3 minutes. Anyways the experience was just awkward and we left not too long after, using up only about $100 of the card (we were not offered the difference, nor did we ask) We were so disappointed and disgusted.

Pros: Beautiful setting, view

Cons: Pressure to spend $$$. The mixed drinks taste like they're made from a mix.

Went with a group for a drink or two. Didn't have a problem getting in, the place wasn't very busy, weekday night. The drinks were good: but served in plastic due to the pool's proximity. That sort of took a little of the style out of it, but I understand about the issue with glass breakage. Then we sat and wanted to order some food. The waitress was just truly high on herself and wasn't at all inviting or even remotely kind. When asked whether we could just order a few orders of French fries, she requested money up front. I say, what? She explained that it's their policy because so many guests of the hotel fail to sign ordered items to their room bill. I thought, "what a lame, lame policy!" If we're going to sneak out on you without paying, then we have at least 100 yards to zig-zag through planters and doors before we arrive at the exit, not to mention a 15-step stairway that we have to walk down to get down from the bar to walk by the pool. So, indeed, we had to pay for the food before she even ordered it!!! This was quite a put off, and I thought I'd seen it all. I've been asked for a credit card before to open at tab at a table, but never have I had to pay before I get my order, not even in the best hotels in Europe, Las Vegas, or New York. The Sky Bar is, as far as I'm concerned, a "low point," in the geography that meanders along Sunset. And while I'm at it, the $8 per order french fries were not nearly as good as those you can get at McDonald's for one fourth (or greater fraction thereof) the cost! Save your money and keep your soul intact and find a bar where they have at least some modicum of trust in people who come in to attemp to enjoy a business' offerings. I suppose if I'd have been a movie star or famous writer/producer who was well known, I'd have been treated quited differently. Welcome to Hollywood!

My husband and I were out for a double celebration; our first night living in LA and our 2 month wedding anniversary. We just sort of showed up to see what would happen...we approached from the inside where the 2 door men told us that entrance was for hotel guests only. So we walked around the front to where there were 4 bouncers, I was suprised to find there was no line or anything. My husband asked them if they had room for 2 more? The bouncer asked us if we had reservations, which we said we didn't...he then asked if we had anyone else coming. I assured him we didn't as "we are from Canada and don't know anyone here" and his reply was "I guess we have room for 2 more then EH?"..lol...picking on us being Canadian. But then we were in. We headed up to the upper bar and asked what it cost for a VIP booth (there were a few open)...the waitress gave some rediculous price so we just ordered a bottle of champage...once we did that she said we could "sit in the one booth until the people who reserved it showed up" LOL...so we did. They never showed up. We had one more bottle of champagne....they were supposed to be $175 a bottle....boy was I surprised when I saw my credit card bill the next day for $650!!! So, I still have to follow up on that one....I will update my review once I get to the bottom of that!

Otherwise the service was good, the view was amazing, it wasn't too crowded and us 2 nobody's got in with no problem.

This place used to be the hottest bar in town. What happened? Just moved back in town after spending a year in Miami, assuming it would have the great vibe I used to come for....OMG! It's turned into a tacky, cheesy hang-out for old, ugly dudes that buy bottles around the pool cause they think they'll be hot chicks. They must be sadly disappointed because thegood looking girls that walked in, walked right out.... scared off by the massive amounts of hairy, overweight old men. Kinda felt like I was walking in to the back of Tony Soprano's office...eeewwww! Well, this bar that was once a guaranteed good time has clearly sunk its ship. Bye, Skybar...I'll miss you.

Pros: Beautiful view of the city

Cons: Horrific view of LA nightlife; bad crowd

I was just checking the various "Hot Hot Hot" posts, which are always suspect... it's funny, Skybar creates these fake usernames to say how "hot" their own bar is while bashing other bars. If you click on the names of the posters to see their post history, there are only two posts; one hyping Skybar, the other bashing another bar - that's it.

Skybar is a joke, it really is. It's their last grasp as trying to stay in the "hip" loop. Anyway, the best bars are now in Hollywood, not on the Strip.

Pros: Nobody inside; Plenty of open space and arm room, almost 100% female once inside

Cons: If you are a female looking for a guy, this is not the place. The only guys in there are tools. The other obvious 'con' is the disgruntled doormen.

This place is great for people watchers like myself and my girlfriends. A great plus is there's no cover charge, but when the bouncer(s) ask if you have a reservation or a room, think fast! I've mentioned we were w/ a party that is staying at the hotel or for a bachelorette party. As long as you look good and/or act like you've been part of the Hollywood scene since you could last remember, you'll have no problems getting in. We've seen celebrities there and the view is fabulous as well as the service! However, the drinks are pricey and they seem diluted when you order from the waitress. You're better off getting drinks straight from the bar. One downside to this place is there are more men then women and it would be nice to see at least more men in the late 20's to early 30's age group.

Hello everyone. I unfortunately made the dreadful decision of celebrating my 32nd birthday here. After almost 2 1/2 weeks of planning, making reservations, sending an evite with 26 RSVP's...I was slammed with dismay of how I was treated. Please read my cancellation request ...

To whom it may conern,

I am very sorry to have to cancel my reservation for 04/21/07.Due to the miscommunication of your staff member (...) - I am very displeased with the overall service of your establishment. It is completely unacceptable that you have certain people that are meant to represent you in a positive way, yet treat those who are not in the industry entirely insubstantial. Although this behavior may be acceptable in this business...it is not good business. I feel very "burned" by this whole experience and I hope that in the future - the clients who do try to "step it up" every once in awhile...don't get stepped on.

The above embodies my feelings about the whole situation. It is truly unfortunate how "society" treats our society...and it goes to prove that although you can spend all the money in the world to build a luxury hotel you can't buy class.

A regular for 2 years. I absolutely love the place. Everything about it is fun. If your a guy and want to shell out money for drinks, you arrive early before 8PM and wait for 2 hours until the club gets hot.

When it gets busy, it gets so busy. It has a magnificent view, and the waitresses do the best they can given how busy it gets. It feels like a high school party as it is outdoors.

It's the closest thing you can get to a miami party in LA. It's not really fully of all the celebs like at other clubs, but there's a good group there

Cool to hang at the pool in the summer if you don't mind $18 club sandwiches and $8 heineys. Great views in the evening and could be a good spot to get one of the tables on the back wall with a date for a quiet drink on a weeknight early. Avoid this place on weekend nights. It represents everything that is wrong with all the entertainment people and spongers. The doormen are so lame and they have to know what loosers theyare because they treat people like garbage...ugh! Otherwise it is decent!

very pretentious/ snobby crowd, but beautiful views of LA. Reservations or you must be on the list to enter...7 days a week. The Mondrian is beautifule as well. Very simplistic modern luxury

Avoid this place like the plague at wkends. The door 'service', or should I say 'serious lack thereof', is a total JOKE. My husband and I were told we needed reservations to get in for a drink on a Sat. night, as were another well-dressed couple who were trying to get in just ahead of us. We were totally appalled as this is the first time we had ever received this kind of b.s., so we just laughed and left immediately. What made it all the more aggravating was when we spotted the 5 skanky girls who seemed to be hovering around the door as if they were just about to be let in by the fools guarding the door. Seriously guys, don't even bother unless you want some ignorant loser bouncer talking down to youit'll ruin your night.

Pros: Setting

Cons: Obnoxious fools for bouncers

.

Good food but not favorable towards women. This is a place that seems to enjoy the company of men over women and it shows if the service. We felt like intruders on an all boys club. Then we wondered if the food was edible for us. Hmmm. Well, it tasted good any way. I just wouldn't go there again because of the obvious bias in service.

Pros: If you're a man it's great. If not, go when there aren't any men or they've already been served.

Cons: My girlfriend and I felt invisible. I hope things have changed since then, but we won't be back.

My fiance and I had gone to this bar for my birthday. A nicely dressed couple in front of us could not get in, although right behind them, we were able to enter right away. It was our first time attending Skybar and we had a BLAST! The service was exceptionally well, everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere was beautiful, everything was decorated glamorously. To make our time there even more delightful, we met another couple that enjoyed the bar as much as we did. We WILL be going back positively.

So I stayed at The Mondrian and fell in love w/ Sky Bar. There were huge beds and white candles everywhere.. it kinda reminded me of Nikki's Beach in Miami and Cabo. Sure, drinks were expensive but I think it comes w/ the territory, so whatever. I love the scene esp. cuz although we went on a weekend it wasn't terribly packed...I'm used to that in SF... my friends and I were able to lounge around the pool, flirt w/ cute boys and still hear each other over the crowd. The view is gorgeous at nite. cuz it's an open space w/ huge glass windows so everyone has a view of the city lites. Very pretty.

i just went to the sky bar last weekend due to all the hype that i have heard, the view is fantastic, but the crowd is a bit uptight and the drinks are way to much, we bought 4 drinks total, the bill was about $55. the sofa couches were nice, good to layout on, lots of candles everywhere.

The bouncer tells some people (as it seemed, unattractive people) that you need reservations to get in. As my girlfriend and I approached the bouncer we were told to wait for a minute while they deny the ladies ahead of us. We were flattered to say the least, especially when we caught a glimps of the "reservation book" which contained nothing but a cross word puzzle. The venue is hott, the crowd is stuffy and the drinks are overprised, but if you are in need of an ego boost, look your best, and get past the red rope!

As 2 men and 2 women at 11:30 on a Saturday night, I expected it to be difficult to get in after reading reviews... bouncer looked us over once and let us right in. The bar itself is beautiful and the service was good, but the crowd was absolutely monotonous. Everyone there was either drunk or stuck-up, truly no fun at all. Managed to snag a VIP bed as another party left, but then I simply wished I was sleeping rather than dealing with that crowd.

Let me start off by saying that for those of you who work for a living, like myself, this is not the place for us. But, we should do it anyway once before dying. This place is as "Hollywood" as Hollywood can be. It's very pretentious, posh, pretty, pricey, populated and pretentious... Came on a Friday nite for my girlfriend's bday party. Got on the guest list for our party of about 10. Just had drinks. Bouncer was ok, quite polite actually. Servers were also pretty nice, considering the other reviews I had read. The view is great, the decor is awesome, the people watching is excellent and drinks are VERY expensive. I like to pretend like I can afford to drink Moet every so often. Skybar is not someplace I would frequent, but it is nice to say you have gone. It was good times all around.

This is a great looking place with an awesome view of L.A. The service was much better than one would expect in a bar with such a reputation for being snooty. The waitresses were actually very nice and accomodating. The guy at the door was also totally cool about letting our group in at about 10:00-ish on a Friday and we had 4 guys and just 2 girls (though one of the girls in our group was a fairly well known entertainer).

The only drawback of Sky Bar is that it really was not super crowded on a Friday and there were not that many intertesting people to talk to. If I spend 15 bucks per drink there had better be someone interesting to distract me from that expense. And there were not many hotties either for that matter. Worth a visit just to check the view.

I am a girl and I have never had a tough time getting in there, but honestly it is overrated. Save your money and go somewhere with a better atmosphere and better drinks. I was dissapointed with how crowded it was and how rude the bartenders were. Every experience there is a bad one, and after this weekend, I've finally decided to get over it - it isn't the Hollywood hot scene anymore. This place fell off the cool list years ago.

I went on a Tuesday night and had no problem getting in (there was no line either at 10pm). It is small with a great view of the city and is worth checking out on a week night.

To get some alcohol in your drink, get them directly from the bar. When the waitress serves you, the alcohol seems to be missing from the mix.

We went on a Monday and after the asking if we had a reservation (we didn't) we were let right in. (Of course we were a group of 3 girls!)

The view of LA was amazing and the bar was very trendy. The guys tended to be on the older, wealthy side the night we went.

No celeb sightings unfortunately!

Relaxing Atmosphere, I don't understand why people think this is a hard place to get into. Maybe if you show up with 5 of your best guy friends. If you keep the girl/guy ratio even it's never a problem, unless your from Encino. THEN ALL HOPE IS LOST!!!!!!!!!!
