Great food, Great drinks !

by Angelika S.

I have eaten here several times and never had anything I didn't like. The bartender sure knows how to make drinks that make your head spin !The Yuquitas with the roasted pepper sauce will make you want for more...the Lettuce wraps with pork (meat by request) are enough for sharing with 3-4 people....I can go on and on !Oh but please, don't all come and eat here....Then I will have to wait to long when I come back !!

Great Happy Hour!!

by Anonymous

We've been there a few times for Happy Hour. Great food and very reasonable, but not TOO busy like most places...they have a lot of space which is all used during Happy Hour. Everything is presented so well, waiting staff are always very nice and polite, would recommend this place to everyone!! We will certainly continue going there!!

Fabulous!

by Linda R. | insider Insider | Rank: 14,176

I love this place... even though I am not a shushi lover! There are many other "cooked" options on the menu that are exquisite! A great place to "get away" for all.

Note: The locator map for this restaurant on the "insiderpages" website is WRONG.... Japaneiro's is located in Town Square on Texas Drive - facing SH6 & US 59.

Good food, horrible service!!!

by Maria H.

We were not even greeted at the door. The waitress never acknowledged us. We ordered sandwiches and it took 45 min to get them. Because of the bad service we did not leave any tip. When I check my bill on-line the little' brat added a tip to the bill. I am so going to report them. I am protesting the whole bill.. This plain and simple robbery.

Awesome!

by Anonymous

This place was soooo good. Me and my fiancee both loved it. The waiter was quick and always made sure our glasses were full and our plates were cleared out of the way. We started with the avocado cream soup which was really tasty and different. Then we had the Tuna tataki. I am not that big of a tuna fan but this was amazing! I usually eat in small bites but this stuff I practically inhaled. Then we got the Hawaiian Roll which was very different but also great. It was a great experience and we will definetley be back. We also tried Azuma's at Rice Village and while that was good Japaneiros was 10 times better.

A fully sensorial experience....in Sugar Land

by Andres R.

So, with so much waiting for a Friday night to show up, why get less than a fully rounded experience that includes a well prepared mojito, an exotic menu that pleases everyone, decoration that inspires, and a great value check that leaves with funds for the rest of the weekend. This is a "sure thing" place. You get "great" everything, every single time. I give it the thumbs up and really recommend it to anyone who is wanting to please all the senses and leave with a smile...

Best restaurant in Sugar Land

by margarita r.

I love this place! Its my favorite restaurant. The food is great. You can choose between eating sushi (raw or cooked) or latin food. I have tried almost everything in the menu and have never been disapointed. The quality and freshness of the ingredients is incredible. I go there with my kids every week and never get bored because of the variety in the menu. The service is excellent. They are always very friendly with the kids. They can color and eat healthy food in a fun way (ie: imitating rolls) from the kids menu. But don't get the wrong impression its also the best place in Sugar Land for grown up dates. It has a great atmosphere, nice decoration and endless bar options. Don't leave the place without dessert. My favorite is "tres leches".

unique and and wonderful combination of flavors.

by T V.

Every time I craved Japanese food I usually drove to Houston, but not since Japaneiros opened (about 3 years ago) here in Sugar Land. I have yet to try a dish I didn't like. My favorite avocado soup, Latino or Sasu rolls, the Pepitos, Very very fresh sashimi, and many more. I think and consider myself a regular visitor to the rest. and feel at home every visit. Atmosphere is beyond compare and service superb. My favorite waitress Maria is always there to accommodate me and my friends (we meet there at least once a week). Just writing about it makes me want to go, so I guess I'll have the verde salad, dumplings and seafood rice for lunch today. yumyum.

bad service, rude waiter

by Lily L.

The waiter was providing horrible service so my friend tipped him not that much of an amount. After we walked out of the restaurant, the waiter came chasing after us making a huge deal out of it. I think people like that should get fired and learn some manners.

PROS:
CONS: Due to that waiter, i will not go back to that restaurant.

I haven't tried any of the entrees that claim to epitomize their concept of fusion, but I think their rolls are overrated. Happy hour specials are okay.

Overpriced

by luvmi247

This place should not call itself a sushi or japanese restaurant whatsoever. Selection of sushi rolls are laughable. The combinations are horrible. The rolls are extremely overpriced as well as the other items on the menu. I couldn't believe 4 tiny pieces of the dumplings cost $6.00!! I will not ever be coming back to this supposed Japanese restaurant. If you're an authentic sushi restaurant lover, I would not recommend this place.

Pros: Good atmosphere

Cons: Not real sushi

Top class establishment

by CL1116

My wife and I frequent this restaurant and have nothing but praise for them. The sushi is always fresh and their rolls are great, especially the Hawaiian. Their Latin dishes add a twist to a normal sushi experience. Everyone on their waitstaff that we have had was very attentive and informative. We'll continue to dine here regularly.

Pros: competent waitstaff, outstanding food

Cons: none

Food is delicious and so full of flavor!

by ism109

Went for happy hour (which i believe was 3-7pm) and i loved it! Me and my boyfriend just ordered off the happy hour menu and it was soooooo good!!! I live in Cypress, so its about 1 hour away from me, but it was good I am thinking of going back this week and maybe the next... and every week until i am tired of it. Its cheap (since its happy hour) and so flavorful. We got the California Roll, shrimp dumplings, crab puffs, yucitas... our favorite were the dumplings - just wish they'd give more in the order (its only 4) and the crab puffs, so different than the usual crab puffs you're used to getting. So so delicious..

Pros: food, happy hour menu

by celine75

I think the people who go to Japaneiro's dont know sushi...This place is disgusting. Fried everything and full of evrything that does not belong!! My sushi was so bad I could not finish it...too much fried outlayer. The sushi had no flavor....This place offer fusion sushi- not the REAL deal. The service was EXTREMELY slow...Don't waste your time or money- if you want REAL sushi- go somewhere else.

Pros: clean

Cons: service, food, parking

Awesome!!

by BiancaBee

My fiance and I always have date night on Fridays and we honestly got tired of all the usual places. We wanted to go out to a place that was up beat, fun to have a few drinks, and great food of course. This place by far is my favorite the food is delicious and the atmosphere is perfect for a date or even a group of people. My fiance is not a huge fan of sushi but once he tried the sushi here he was hooked especially their specialty rolls ,but they have so much more for others that do not like sushi. I can agree with another reviewer that the wait staff could be a little more cheerful but as for the wait for food and mix ups ...this place gets extremely busy so of course they are not always going to be perfect and the wait time for food can take a while.

Pros: Great sushi, atmosphere, tempura!!! YUM

Cons: the wait ....but its worth it !!!!

The sushi is awesome & the sauces just give it that special touch.. AWESOME!!!!!

Good rolls for the most part, horrible service.

by sabrusley

Dont get me wrong, its good. I wouldn't branch out and say its the best. I think our biggest complaint is we have had a few bad services. At one point they forgot my son's meal, then they ran out of the chicken for my son's meal, and then they reluctantly made him some beef (only other thing on the kids menu was shrimp which he won't eat). That took another 25 mins to cook up something that should have taken 7 max. Besides that there are a few gentlemen waitstaff that are just either rude or incredibly slow and have no desire to be there. Some of the girls we have had have been good though. And lately since I am pregnant, I have had to venture out to the cooked rolls. Unfortunately I have found that consistency is not their strong suit. But all in all, if they have a stronger waitstaff we would go back as I haven't found any other place good in Sugarland. But because of our bad experience with the waitstaff, we have decided to go elsewhere.

Pros: Good sashimi, good non-cooked rolls

Cons: Horrible waitstaff, bad kids menu

Great Atmosphere and good food few exceptions

by moham

First thing you want to do when you sit is ORDER THE CRAB PUFFS! Then try out the good sushi and great Ambiance. There are not many things that you can order wrong at this place. But I did order a sandwich and was very disappointed. It was disgusting! Other than that the food was amazing and the environment was clean and friendly. Dessert was amazing also

Stay away from Sandwich; everything else is fantastic

Pros: good sushi; good atmosphere

Cons: the sandwiches.

radiates AWESOMENESS!!

by fashooo

Japaneiros is absolutely amazing. I personally am not a fan of sushi but...going there for the first time the staff was able to recommend some different sushi to ease me into it...and now I love it. The latin food is phenomenal as well...it reminds me of my family's homecooking which is really nice because I don't get it that often. The staff is really friendly and relaxed, and from what I can tell they all get along and work well together. The hawaiian roll is awesome, and the rock and roll, and the mount fuji...and the verde salad is soooo good!!

Pros: friendly, intimate environment, and really good food

Cons: parking

Really good fish...

by DavidSushi

I might be wrong but they've upped their quality of fish considerably in the last year or year and a half. I go pretty often, maybe once every week and, in the past, every now and then would encounter some suspect looking/smelling fish. Hasn't been that way for at least the last 5-6 months. I think their fish is comparable to some of the more traditional restaurants in Houston. Spicy tuna is also a good choice here. Service is just fine though I've noticed they frequently have new staff members... Not cheap or the best sushi restaurant in Houston, but you get what you pay for, and certainly an above average Japanese restaurant

Pros: quality of sushi, creativity of rolls, ambiance

Cons: might have to park in the garage, not sure if valet is free

Best sushi in all of surrounding Houston. Japanieros is fresh, nice portions, and beautiful. Their avocado soup is wonderful. Their salads are creative and taste great. The atmosphere is hip, inviting and open. You can sit outside and people watch if you choose in a great location. It's worth the drive from anywhere in Houston. Customer service is always perfect.

Pros: great for lunch with the girls or dinner with the family

Cons: Parking would be difficult but their is a parking garage - problem solved

One word... OUTSTANDING!! My wife and I drive all the way from Cypress to Sugar Land to taste this sushi. This unique "Latin Fusion" cuisine is one of a kind. Besides the fresh sushi, the rest of the menu will please even the biggest sushi haters. Try the beef and you won't be disappointed and wash it down with one of their delicious mojito's. I'll be back next week!

great sushi, strong drinks, modern atmosphere

by Tony07

I live around Hwy 6 , Bellaire and there is absolutely nothing related to sushi in my area. I normally go to Azuma in Uptown but I decided to try something different for once. I went to Japanieros with 5 close friends this past Wednesday. There was a short wait but that only made me think "it must be good." The server was very prompt to greet us, not to mention cute. Our drinks were phenominal!! Try their fresh mojitos! We ordered a sampler of sushi called a " Nirvana." She brings out 2 large plates: one with 6 rolls and an assortment of sauces and the other with an assortment of sushi and 3 kinds of sashimi. We were all impressed with the flavors and our overall dining experience. The only thing I didn't like about the place was the parking. You have to park in a 4 story covered parking lot, take an elevator down, and then walk around town center to get to their front door. I guess they're not busy when it's raining!

Overrated

by txbrowneyedgirl

I'm not really sure why this restaurant is rated number 1. I read the reviews on CitySearch and thought this would be a great place to go since I live in Sugarland and love sushi. I went on a Friday night so it was busy and took a while to get a table. After we were seated, my boyfriend and I had to wait forever for Edamame and drinks. I ordered the Tiger Eye roll and he got one of their Latin infused steaks which just tasted like fajita meat. My sushi was roll was pretty disappointing and he wasn't thrilled about his meal either. It also took forever for drink refills. Living in Sugarland, I do wish there were more great sushi places but this is definitely not it.

Pros: Close to home (Sugarland)

Cons: Food wasn't that great, slow service

Cute place, long wait!

by houston_aggie

I went there for a friend's birthday. The place is small, so the wait is long if your party exceeds 4 people. You can't make reservations. You can have drinks and apps at the bar while you are waiting. Good drinks, good food. Sushi is great...love the shaggy dog! The crab rangoon appetizer is great, not like at a typical chinese restaurant. Try it! I would definitely go again with a smaller party or just with my significant other.

Pros: good sushi, good drinks

Cons: long wait

All Show and No Go

by marinacat

I had dinner at Japaneiro's with some friends for the first time and this place is not all it's cracked up to be. The place is a nice place to go drink. I liked the bar and the feel of the place is fun and modern, but the sushi was fishy smelling/tasting and felt lukewarm and mushy in my mouth, yuck! One of the appetizers (supposedly a "ceviche") was shrimp and pico de gallo in V8 juice! I didn't ask to try my friend's entrees, but my Chicken (insert Latin word here to make it fusion)-thingy was just a grilled chicken breast with fried sweet potatoes and soggy sauteed veggies. Don't waste your money on such an amateurish place. For real fusion cuisine and sushi, I'll go in town.

Pros: Fun bar, pretty good drinks

Cons: Disappointing food, young inexperienced waitstaff

I had hoped this restaurant would never be discovered by City Search. My husband and I have been going since they opened and it just keep getting better. Ask the waiter about the new sushi rolls. They are always coming up with new ideas. I love the new Tuna Hippie (not on the menu). The fish is always fresh!!

Pros: Sushi - Sushi - Sushi

Cons: Not a lot of selection if you have picky eaters (children)

Doesn't Quite Make It

by iamscary

I have been to Japaneiro's several times and each time, I keep hoping it will be better than the last, but unfortunately that hasn't hapened. Based on previous reviews, I now wonder if Sugar Land has any taste in sushi. The sashimi and rolls were about room tempurature, which made me a little nervous. My namasake sashimi was a little mushy and I could detect a slight fishy smell/flavor. Sounds dumb, I know, but truly fresh fish has NO oder. I had a tough time with the rolls since they had "Japanese mayo" on them, which I found to be overwhelming and unsavory. However, I did like the spicy tuna rolls. My friend ordered some sort of noodle dish, which arrived in about a cup of oil at the bottom. When she requested the sandwich instead, she was unimpressed by the plain hoagie roll it arrived on and the side of "toston" chips, which were dry, stale and flavorless. After looking over their menu, I've realized that this restaurant tries to take its fusion theme and be modern and hip, but it just doesn't quite make it. The flavors are unbalanced and the compositions of the dishes are mediocre, as though the chef is trying to emulate Nobu. Sadly, they don't even come close. I personally will not settle for mediocre just because it's in the neighborhood.

Pros: Great atmosphere, good service

Cons: Menu is sophomoric and lacks creativity

Very Surprising

by sweet80pea

My husband and I have always loved sushi and sometimes it can be a bother to drive so far to get some decent sushi. We were pleasantly surprised to discover Japaneiro's in Sugar Land. Not too far away from us and I love the South American/Japanese fusion. Try the Soft Shell Crab Pepito and the Ceviche Sampler plate, they are to die for. Their handrolls are stuffed to the brim and each bite will contain what you ordered instead of being filled up with rice. The sashimi portions are nice and big. It's a small place, but it's worth the wait.

Pros: Good Food, Well Priced
