Our service was great and the waiter was adorable. Ambiance was romantic and definitely recommended. For the music,,,I would recommend jazz or house and the people were cool. Portions were good.

I've been to a few Korean BBQ places in Los Angeles, and this is definitely the best. The my favorite thing about Wharo is that is has a low key vibe with very high quality food. I may not be a foodie but I can tell the difference in the meat they use here. Definitely a great place for lunch or dinner!

Wharo's is my favorite korean bbq on the westside! the meat and side dishes are fabulous. Its so good. I don't think there is a better k bbq in the area. Although i heard that there is a new spot called Gyenari in culver city that was delicious too. Might have to try it out. We'll see.

I was very happy to find a korean restaurant close to home, without having to go to Koreatown. The food here is very good, but when the bill came, I was very disappointed. It was way too pricey. They give really small portions of meat, so you end up ordering a lot. You can cook it yourself on the tabletop grills, which my kids love. The food is actually very good, but I always remind myself how much it will be if I go there. I sometimes give in if there's only two of us dining, and other times I pass. It's too expensive.

I dined at Wharo last night with a couple buddies. There wasn't a wait to get seated but the place filled up pretty quickly after we sat down. The place seemed to be understaffed as we had to wave down our waiter to take our order and our empty meat trays were never picked up until after the meal. I found the quality of food to be good but not exceptional. Also, I think the dishes were a bit overpriced considering the quantity you're getting. There are a couple things that distinguish this place from any Korean BBQ joint in K-Town or Gardena: the entire wait staff speaks perfect English, there is a good wine selection (for a Korean BBQ place), and the dessert selection is more of an American mix. Overall, we found the meal to be "okay". If you're craving Korean food and you're too lazy to drive all the way to K-Town, this place will suffice.

Pros: The food was somewhere btwn "Acceptable" and "Good"

Cons: Poor value. Poor service... but servers may have been short-staffed.

I been going to this place for a long while now..I find the menu is $$$$ and the portions are getting less and less...I will still go cause I enjoy it....They need to get back to orignal thought feed ya make it good and service ya well..

Terrible service, beginning with the phone! I called to place an order and they left me on hold for 6 minutes. Continued to call back and no one ever seems to pick up the phone at this place. This is the third occasion in which I have tried to reach the restaurant via phone and can't get through, and have been mistreated when they do actually pick up the phone during business hours. Unreliable and UNACCEPTABLE!

I went on a date here and ordered the $50 special for 2 and also an order of calamari. The server was wonderful, he brought us all these side dishes to go with the 2 different meats that came with the meal. You also get 2 miso soups (i've had better) and a big salad with a peanut miso ish dressing. The calamari was not fried, it was raw as well, and you place it on the grill in front of you with your marinated meats. You also get soy paper and sliced beets and lettuce to wrap your meats and sides in. The server came around quite frequently to help with the cooking. He was very attentive and friendly. I left feeling very stuffed for a $70 meal for 2, no wine. I would definately go back.

The restaurant is very nice inside and the food is very high quality, but the meat does not have that much flavor. I like Korean restaurants where you leave the restaurant smelling like kalbi and if you breathe on someone they know you just had garlic. If you like your food more mild, this might be the restaurant for you.

I'm pretty positive all the 5-star reviewers could not be korean people. This was not true Korean bbq. Whoever thinks it is, I feel sorry for them. The food was overpriced, the amount was tiny and tasted really processed. There was this Japanese/fusion feel -- by that I mean the portions were tiny with colorful litte inedible decorations on the plate. I ordered a full meal and left hungry. That has never happened to me at a Korean bbq restaurant. Therefore, I must conclude this was not true Korean bbq. Unfortunately, there's not much choices for Korean food on the westside. You just have to make that trip to k-town to get something decent.

A few months ago we went to K-town for my first Korean BBQ experience. It was unusual, but good. My only complaint...where are the veggies? Well Wharo has it all...veggies, Korean BBQ, amazing service, and IN W. LA!! You will, of course, pay for this greatness...about $40 pp w/out alcohol, but worth it! I suggest getting the $50 meal deal for two. The salad is wonderful and the soup is FANTASTIC...The meat and seafood is really fresh and marinated perfectly. The meal deal ends with the best mochi (never been a mochi fan until Wharo)...I'd come for the mochi alone! If you are going on a Friday or Saturday night be sure to make a reservation...anymore than four people in your party can be a pain....The best is only two or three.

Pros: The food is wonderful, the staff are very nice

Cons: Parking is tough, and the prices are a bit high

.

Pros: good service, clean and comfortable sitting, verity of choices, No MSG added into the food; situated in the Westside..
Cons: Small portion makes it pricy. Not as authentic as the ones in K-town.

This is a decent place for a decent Korea food. BBQ, Kiamichi, Beef soup, rice all are on the menu to choose. Side dishes are served with every BBQ order. Korea drinks offered for a refresh taste.

I think the flavor of the BBQ is not as impressive as I had elsewhere (K-town, Fullerton, LA, etc). I did not like the dipping sauce. But the meat is fresh. The minimum order for BBQ is about $25 --$35 after tax (the portion is small), cocktail drinks are about $8. You can easily to spend $50 for one person if you order BBQ entry with a drink. Spending $50 bucks for a good meal is not a big deal but the thing is that you can get a lot more for the same money elsewhere and maybe more flavor. Considering this is the Westside, if you craving for Korea food but hesitated to drive far, it is not a bad alternative. I still go to K-town whenever I can?the side dishes just taste better there...

My family and I have found our Korean dining spot on the Westside! We'd typically go to K-town to eat real Korean food, but Wharo has enough good, authentic dishes and lots of different liquors to satisfy our needs. I'm Korean, I know my Korean food. It's easy to eat there with a one-year old if you get there early enough. It tends to get busy later on, so we go around 5:30 and have never had a problem with seating. The service has been good on each visit, so no complaints there and I'm a STICKLER for service. You could have the best food in the universe, but if I get bad service, I won't spend my hard earned dollars at your place for sure. Never had a problem here. Just good service. Reviewers complain about the portion size, but really, the portions are appropriate. Prices could be better based on the portion size, but very comparable to Gyu-Kaku (Japanese/Korean fusion) without the hassle. Decor is nice. It can get very loud once filled. Parking could be better, but that general area is hectic and not very parking friendly anyway. If you're carnivorous, a must is the Kobe beef. Very, very good! Good quality of food, service and ambiance all around.

We've been to Wharo twice and each time were seated immediately. (Of course, we made reservations earlier in the week.) We had both kalbi and salmon, and various side dishes -- all were delicious and sufficient. The classed up interior wasn't a decisive feature for us: more important was an easy dining experience (even with a child along). Wharo lives up to our expectations.

Pros: Korean on the Westside! Low key location, fairly close to the beach if you want to go there first.

Cons: Parking is usually accessible, but drive early. Lincoln Blvd. can be tough.

THIS IS THE WORST OF THE WORST RESTAURANTS THAT I HAVE BEEN TO IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I had a reservation for 6 people at 5pm. I was there at 5pm but two of my colleagues weren't there. They have never been in the area so they were lost. I was outside on the phone with them to tell them directions. when they finally got there was about 5:30 and it was after the manager had had my friends to the smallest table in the restaurant because they were so busy and we were the only ones that hadn't ordered yet.
She basically wanted us,6 of us, to seat at a table for 4 people because not all of us were there at 5pm. She never apologized when we were so upset by being treated like are not as important as other customers only because we hadn't oredered right away.
She said she takes reservations every one and a half hr so IF YOU ARE NOT DONE BY THEN THEY WILL KICK YOU OUT. SO KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU PLAN TO GO TO THIS PLACE, EAT AND ORDER IN 90 MINS NO MATTER WHAT.

Below you asked me to call. When I called you the last tiyou laughed in my face and hung up on me. I am never going back to your place.

Cons: The most terrible restaurant ever. Super RUDE!!!!

My girlfriend and I have been visiting Wharo for about 5 months now and everytime we visit we leave satisfied. The food is outstanding, and being Korean myself, the portions are just right and satisfying to the taste buds. Great for those quick meals that are satisfying and easy on the wallet.

Located in an unassuming Venice stripmall, Wharo is an amazing find - high quality, superb Korean BBQ. Though small, the restaurant is well-designed with a modern, clean feel. This is cook-your-own BBQ but the meat is of excellent quality as are the welcome side dishes of kimchi, vegetables, and salad. Listed as one of the top 10 restaurants in LA magazine for 2005.

PROS: Great food
CONS: Small and buzzing so may require short wait

The menu isn't as extensive as it's counterparts in Koreatown, but they do well with what they have. We didn't have reservations on a Friday night, but were seated promptly. We didn't have a set waiter/waitress, but we had a smile from everyone who served us.

I made reservations for 6:00 for 4 adults/ 3 kids. Despite being on time and open tables, we waited 20 minutes. After being seated, no one, I mean NO ONE acknowledged us. No menu, no drinks, nothing. After getting up and asking the hostess what's up, a waiter finally dropped off a menu with some comment about no one was assigned to us, sorry. No one ever was, we got a patchwork all evening. It was 7:00 before we even got a drink. The kids were very hungry and got restless waiting endlessly for food.
The fun of eating there is cooking yourself over the bbq grill. I ordered an entree that, unfortunately, came to the table already cooked. The waiter never told me that it was cooked in the kitchen.
It was embarrassing to me to have brought my friends to Wharo.

I was very impressed with the authentic korean barbeque experience the Westside had to offer. The service was excellent and the Kobe beef with minced garlic was mouth watering. I prefer this place much more than joints in Korea town because I don't speak Korean and its hard to get the attention of the staff. I thought the prices were reasonable in context to the area. Simply put Wharo was great!

I can't believe how many positive things people had to say about the food at this place. Granted, it is one of the only places west of the 405 that serves Korean food, but it is only mediocre. The prices, a bit high. Service, pretty good. Decore, OK for a strip mall on Lincoln.

If you want good Korean food, venture a little east into Koreatown and you will be more than happy that you went a few extra miles.

Wharo was recommended to me by a friendof mine, after reading the reviews, I was a hesitant about trying it out. My fiance and I were craving Korean bbq and didn't want to travel far, so we decided to go. I have to say that we were very satisfied by end of meal. Premium meat choices, great service, and nice ambiance. I recommend dinner reservations if you plan on arriving at 7:00 or later. Only con is the price - be prepared to spend. The 2 of us cost $70 w/o liquor.

For anyone who goes there I would recommend them to try the kalbi! The quality of the meat is very good but I would agree that the portions are small and that it is somewhat pricey. I believe they have raised the price a few times coz it wasnt really that expensive when we went there when they first started the business. It was so much better in the beginning when it was not crowded.. and you dont have to wait long. Nevertheless I still recommend this place.

I believe they have raised the price a few times coz it wasnt really that expensive when we went there when they first started the business. It was so much better in the beginning when it was not crowded.. and you dont have to wait long. Nevertheless I still recommend this place.

Pros: Nice ambience, Good food

Cons: small portions, expensive

I don't claim to me the Korean food expert, but I've had enough of it to know what's good and what isn't. I have to say Wharo, is on the isn't side. Though atmosphere is nice and I like the contemporary look of the restaurant, I have to say the food isn't very good. All I can say is after leaving restaurant, I felt dissatisfied with the food and bit ripped off. Then I drove to a good Korean place and ate.

What a great restaurant. I read the other reviews and was actually hesitant before going but am glad I went. The food was fresh, the service was good and price was fair. I don't know why others posted that it was on the pricey side--I thought given the quality of the food, the pricing was actually very fair. Great date place!!

Having a Korean wife, living in Marina Del Rey and being totally obsessed with Korean food -- I've turned to Wharo as a place I eat more than my own dining room. The food is totally authentic - actually better pan-chan than what you find in Koreatown. The atmosphere is top notch. Unlike the greasy, smoky pits in K-town, Wharo has much more of a W Hotel feel. The kalbi Wharo serves is top-grade beef, not some of the lower grade meat (hidden by over-marination) that BBQ joints in K town use. Prices are totally fair -- One entree (a chigaeo or bimbimbap) plus one order of Kalbi will easily feed two people and will only set you back $30.

The food was okay, but far from good korean food. The portions are much smaller than when you go to other korean restaurants and more expensive. I was not used to their menu, as more traditional places serve their meat the same way.
Even our waiter was nice enough to tell us that some of the stuff wasn't that good and that it was over priced.

The restaurant looks nice within the small space but the food is not authentic
enough for my taste. Price is quite high as expected like most Korean BBQ'S,however
the portions was rather skimpy. My advise for anyone who craves this food is head to Koreatown's many restuarants.

The quality of meat is very good but the menu is kind of expensive, they just recently hiked up prices. The best time to go is during happy hour, m-th 5-6, otherwise it's too expensive to eat regularly. We went for lunch recenlty and they give you the meat already cooked on a hot plate, still yummy but grilling is so much more fun.

My husband and I come once a week to Wharo for happy hour. As a regular customer, I feel compelled to say a few good things about this restaurant. The menu has a healthy range of options, from veggies to spicy soups to prime cut beef. The side dishes will stimulate your palate, and the appetizers, especially the payjun and chapchae, are remarkable. They also carry a wide range of alcohol, including beer, soju, rice wine, and premium hot & cold sakes. In addition to the friendly and efficient service, I love the romantic ambience here.

I love the ambience of Wharo: the dark wood and fresh flowers lend to a simple, yet classic & elegant environment. The menu offers a wide variety of healthy dishes, including prime cut beef, fresh veggies, and plenty of interesting side dishes, all made without MSG. Wharo also has a nice selection of wine...this is truly a great place for a date. Be sure to make a reservation on a Friday or Saturday so you don't have to wait!

i was excited to see that there was a grand opening for a new korean restaurant around the marina del rey area because i just moved here and was looking for some good korean food. however, this restaurant and is not worth the money compared to the restaurants anywhere else.. i.e.: los angeles, rowland heights, diamond bar, cerritos, etc. you can get a lot more food and authentic korean taste by going to a different restaurant. the food tastes good, but their portions are very, very small and unlike other korean restaurants, refills (for kimchee, rice, etc.) are extra charge. they allow you to cook the meat yourself, but there are also a lot of restaurants in l.a. that allow you to do this.

While I don't think that this restaurant is as good as some of the barbeques in Korea-town, its a good alternative for all of us westsiders that don't feel like driving down there! I went with three other people and we had the mixed vegetables, bulgogi, bibimbap and tofu chigae all of which were great.

This new Lincoln Blvd. restaurant is a welcome addition. The miso, baby greens, and kim chee starter was fresh and wonderful. They were no match for the succulent cuts of prime beef that were delivered shortly thereafter, though; the amazing bonus here is, you get to cook the meat yourself! These paired well with the sauces brought to our table and the crisp, cold bottle of Korean sake we enjoyed. This was all topped off with a delicious and settling tea. Two thumbs up from all three diners!
