After reading some of the poor reviews I visited anyways, I trust my friend that made the recomendation. I was very impressed with the quality of the products, and th store. I was helped as soon as the customer in front of me was complete, i asked several questions and they spent plenty of time with me answering them. I will definelty go back, they even warned about the potential of Aiptasia and how to look for it, I went home and sure enough I had it, so they may have even saved my tank and fish. Highly Recomend.

I have been there twice, not going back. The owner as a marine biologist does have great knowledge. I have not been able to get any customer service over there, even when the store is nearly empty. He seems more interested in helping current clients or anyone over 30. After multiple attepmts to make a purchase I left the store, the owner was too busy chatting with a current client. I only needed 5minto bag the coral pay and leave. I felt like he could have cared less about my small request. Maybe if I were over 30 or dressed in a pantsuit or brought a picture of my current tank he might give some respect. A good friend of his reccomended the store. Is a personal relationship required to make a purchase? Is there some clint list I need to sogn up for or is my age a deterent for help. I have NEVER had such difficult time trying to get help.
Gave the place a second try, was much busier but wondered why I was back in there. Good luck getting service. There is upscales down the street, been going for years. Going to stick with a good place

Be careful not to confuse the owner??s one-size-fits-all opinions with ??knowledge?. I believe his interests are pretty much limited to maintaining client aquarium??s and he??s seems to be quite bored with the retail part of the business.

The good: I have been in the hobby for over 20 years and even ran a fish only pet store. There are very few diseases or ailments I can't spot at distance and I found nothing to worry about here. No ick, no fungus, no wasting away, no parasites, no issues. I have never been to a "mart" store without finding diseased fish in most if not every tank. If one tank at a "mart" store has a sick fish EVERY tank has been exposed to it.

Prices here were a bit higher than some other stores I have been in, but competitive with "mart" stores.

The bad: I had to edit my former review after getting terrible customer service. Apparently they like you as long as you are in the store spending money. I was told I could bring in my fish for credit one day, and then the next told by someone there what I said to another employee wasn't truthful. It isn't usually a good idea to tell a customer what they said. In short, I now have 4 albino Kribs at about 9 bucks a pop and no place to put them because I can't turn my 2 four inch Oscars in! Very lame game after I spent over $50. I had intended to come back and buy a lot more once my Oscars were gone. Now, I think I'll just get my fish elsewhere. Thanks for nothing Hollywood... I am not a happy customer!

Pros: Healthy fish, Knowledgable Staff

Cons: Poor customer service, rude, low tech

I have enjoyed Hollywood aquarium for many years and frequently browse the store. The owner is extremely knowledgable and personable about fish and aquariums. If they have a good one, they are sometimes willing to sell a used aquarium at a lesser cost which I appreciate as they can be spendy! My only complaint is the guy that usually works there does not seen too interested in helping you unless you ask. My sister went there to purchase an aquarium and after walking around the empty tanks for several minutes he finally got off the phone and went into the back room. We were there fror 20 minutes and never asked if we needed help. She left feeling like she didn't want to give that salesperson the commission for buying a tank at that point. I don't think that should discourage anyone from checking out the store as it is a fine store with a fantastic manager.

I have to disagree with the last review that suggested that Hollywood Aquarium is not the place to go to ask questions. To the contrary, it is by far the best place. The owner has a Ph.D in icthiology(sp) - that's fish. He studied sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico and has had repeated contact with Jacque Cousteau himself. Aquarium stuff is based on science, and it can be duanting and tricky at times. Nobody in the metro area has over 30 years of salt water experience and a doctoral degree in fish except Dr. Bennet at Hollywood. Many places hand out an assortment of weak information often coming from people who don't hold a college degree in anything - the reliability is marginal. At Hollywood you will pay a little more. But you will have access to the best information in the business and reliable high quality products without fads and crap that don't float by a guy with Ph.D. At the end of the day, fish keeping is more fun and enjoyable when you don't have to learn the hard way and have a "go to" person when you need giudance. And if you keep fish, especially saltwater, you're going to need a lot of support.

Hollywood Aquarium used to have excellent customer service, until around 2000. The saltwater and freshwater displays are worth going in and checking out. They have the most exotic looking fish that of course, are not for sale but the setup's are very nice to watch. The prices are a little on the high side and they have a bigger selection of saltwater than freshwater fish. If you haven't done your research first and absolutely know what you want, this is not the place for you. I recommended somebody to this store and when I talked to them again, they said they were treated poorly, so I wouldn't recommend going in and asking any real questions, leave that for a different fish store. If you know what you want and have extra money to spend, this is the place for you. They have a huge selection of aquariums, a bigger selection than any other place, if you're looking for something that you haven't had any success in finding, chances are, you will find them at Hollywood Aquarium.

PROS: displays, huge aquarium selection, high saltwater selection
CONS: customer service, high prices
