How Come I didn't know about this place sooner?

That's the second thought that goes through the mind after YUMMMMM. I found this place on a tip from a friend who is really serious about lattes. They told me that this place actually makes those almost non-existent fancy patterns on the lattes that I've seen on the FOOD NETWORK.

What this friend failed to mention is that this place is heart-breakingly charming and teeny-tiny cute. It literally is a sea-side sidewalk creperie out of Amelie. It is immediately warm and makes you feel like this is your neighborhood cafe even if you live in Irvine.

The food is a mix of classic american ingredients shown through a prism of french and northern california influences. It's the honesty and size of American home cooking with the attention to simple and fresh that is the hallmark of Northern Cal sensibilities.

For example, I had the Breakfast Croque Monsuier. The traditional french version has ham and grueyere cheese. At LA GALETTE, they turned this age old classic into a hot breakfast crepe by enveloping Black Forest ham, swiss cheese and scrambled eggs in a delicate crepe. Then, they top this with a Bechamel sauce.

This sauce, I was told, is a classic french white sauce made with a hint of Nutmeg. I loved it because it was like a country gravy but not as heavy.

My boyfriend who has a sweet tooth ordered the FRESH BERRY BLINTZ. I must admit that I probably ate half of his meal plus my own. The blintz is larger than the tiny ones that you normally associate with blintz. It is more like a blintz filled crepe topped with fresh blackberries, blueberries and strawberries.

Yeah. It is as good as it sounds.

This is my new favorite place because in addition to clever and inventive menu, the coffee is superior and they serve breakfast all day. Plus, the check came in for way under what I thought a meal like this would cost.

I LOVE LA GALETTE.

Where have you been all my life?

Pros: Dishes you can't get anywhere else, Price

Cons: Cash Only

.

What a Gem! Amazing Rosetta Lattes (how do they do that?), an ocean view and To-Die-For crepes filled with fresh berries, homemade chocolate sauce or european cheeses, smoked salmon or herbed roasted chicken breast.

Gourmet and affordable and enjoyed in a warm, cozy bistro setting with an ocean view. A refreshing change of pace from ho-hum chains. This place will be your next best kept secret.

You'll want to take everyone you adore to this place.

PROS: Berries and Cream (real honest to god fresh berries) A Steal at 6.95$
CONS: Super crowded with people on the weekends
