From the second you walk into Birdland everything from the finches to macaws squeak or squawk out some welcome. It all depends on who you are. As a newcomer, some birds will walk over to the edge of a cage, tilting his head side to side in what seems a gesture to try and figure you out, staring with analytical eyes while you move about. But those who continually make their way back to Birdland for seed, grooming or a more than fair boarding a conventional ??hello? awaits. And having been a source for North Park some 25 years there are a few greetings in the air; some people are even acknowledged by name. No surprise all these birds are friendly, having been purchased from individual breeders, keeping them from succumbing to the peril of ill-temperament found in many farm raised birds.
Not only for these reasons is Birdland something of a community source. Besides the products from other companies on stock, a specially mixed in-house seed is also available. Word from owner Deborah Ezele is that some birds have taken such a liking to the seed that owners who have moved across the country will call to request some be sent out. A retired firefighter, seven years ago her brother suggested picking up a job at Birdland to fill her time. She ended up becoming a certified avian specialist, as she found it all but impossible to enjoy both birds and their owners. In fact, it was such an impossibility that she eventually bought Birdland 4 years ago and continues to enjoy the work.

Birdland of san diego is an absolutely wonderful store. They have a terriffic variety of Birds, a great selection of toys and cages. There employees are friendly and know a great deal about birds. The store itself is bright and very clean. Birdland is an absolute must see for all bird lovers!

Pros: everything

Cons: none

Sure this store is big as their website proclaims, but when you walk in you are overwhelmed with bad smells. I feel bad for the birds staying there. The room next door contains lots of bird cages, but there is no light turned on, no staff around, and most cages are still wrapped up in plastic so you can't see them. We hit our head multiple times on the metal bars over the cages. It's difficult to get around to view the selection.

PROS:
CONS: Store smells, hard to see products
