The Black Bear Diner is one of our favorites. A CLEAN, comfortable, nostalgic, fun restaurant.

We- myself, my husband, my daughter, my grand kids, my sisters (3 of them) and my Mother are all frequent customers of the Black Bear Diner in Glendale- also recommended by a friend.

The food- from breakfast to lunch to dinner menu items are always hot, served with a smile (sometimes a joke also) and ALWAYS delicious. My husband's favorite is the chicken fried steak also!

The prices seem a little high on some items at first but when you start seeing the PLATTERS come out over-flowing with food you can see what a bargain the menu really is.

I have a few times, in the several years I have been going to the Black Bear, been disappointed with some food that has arrived at the table but a POLITE word to our server requesting what I wanted has ALWAYS corrected the problem with their sincere apologies AND a discount.

Complimenting the chef and server and leaving a good tip for a job well done never hurts either!!
I think people tend to forget that sometimes!

We visited Black Bear Diner based on recommendations from a friend, and a buy one get one free dinner deal.

After reviewing the small selection of food offered at outrageously high prices we finally decided on something. We placed our order and the waitress promptly took back the flimsy printed paper menu's like they were the last ones in the place.

Our salads arrived wilted and browning, tomatoes squishy. They were obviously made a few days before hand.

The dinner portions were very small for the prices charged. Luckily my sons will eat anything, but even this food was hard for them to stomach.

My $15 chicken fried steak was fresh fried from frozen, the only saving grace being it was smothered in gravy. But it was still like eating the sole of a shoe wrapped in sandpaper. I couldn't eat more than a few bites. My wife only took one bite of her $13 chicken wrap or roll, whatever it was. The sides were made from frozen and disgusting as well.

Our waitress, along with many of the employees, was noticeably unhappy. We stifled a laugh when asked if we needed boxes for our food. Nothing we ate was enjoyable and left us actually feeling sick later on. Even with a buy one gets one free deal it was not worth it and complaining to management about it was not worth my time as we were never coming back again anyway.

Did I mention the red ants crawling on our table while we were eating?

I had heard that this was a good place to eat so I took my niece who came to visit from South Carolina. First off I want to say that the service was terrible. The waitress took our oder and that was the last we saw of her after she brought our coffee. Then she disappeared again. She finally brought out breakfast but by then my coffee was out and I was hoping for another cup. I tasted my food, only 1 bite and it was not that good. The eggs were clearly undercooked and the Linguisa I got tasted more like a hot dog. I tried to get the waitresses attention, but she would purposely ignore us. She would wait on a table right beside us then turn her back and walk off. AFter she did this 3 times, I got so exasperated I told my niece, "Let's just go." We walked out. I'll never go back. Very rude staff!!

Pros: country atmosphere

Cons: very loud, uncomfortable chairs, rude service.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Black Bear Diner. Great service and delicious food! I recommend the chicken fried steak. So good! They also have their own special steak sauce that is quite tasty.
