Crooked Run BC is a very old church whose visit we anticipated for several weeks. We found this church by chance when we were driving through the area. We turned around and drove up the hill to this beautiful old church. The historic road market indicated that the church first met in the 1770s. The current church building had burned down in 1910 and was rebuilt using the existing bricks from the structure dating back to the 1850s. This kind of history and simplicity was the type of church we were looking for. The people were wonderfully welcoming and air conditioning was going to be installed in the next week (it was 90+ on the day we visited). The music was old fashioned and everything seemed to be just right. We were a little disappointed that the preacher used another translation of the Bible and not KJV, given the history of the church. It all turned sour for us though when we exited the church. We asked the preacher which version he was using and his answer and put-down of our trust KJV Bible made us rather disgusted, especially since the pew Bibles were also KJV. Given that he is a new preacher, I am willing to give him some benefit of the doubt, but you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
