My husband and I went last night with some friends. First I love the bar it is intimate and warm. I had a cosmo and it was perfect in a chilled glass. Dinner was excellent and the steak was high quality and cooked to perfection. Ended with Bananas Foster cooked at the table and that was soooo good. It was nice to have pleasant staff and a great table and the owner came over to see if we are happy and we were and I would highly recommend it. It is a fabulous night out.

Our first try there and everyone loved it. Great menu, a little expensive, but well worth it. Look forward to venturing back.

We took our office staff to Rey's for dinner on a Saturday night. The service and food were excellent! Our waitstaff, Tom and Kelly were attentive and right on cue. There were 12 for dinner and not one complaint. We had appetizers, salads, entree's and dessert. If you are looking for a place to have a romanic dinner, or perhaps to celebrate a special occasion, look no further than Rey's.

My fiance and I recently had dinner at Rey's and had a wonderful experience. After ordering a divine bottle of Dynamite, she and I continued on to fabulous entrees provided by our excellent server, Jason. Jason knew exactly when to come by, and she and our conversation was never interrupted. He put in our order exactly as if we'd done it ourselves. I am very picky about my steak (medium rare, and not a bit overdone) and he brought it out cooked perfectly and at the temperature that I enjoy it. She and I had such a great time we made plans with the lovely director to have our wedding reception at the restaurant.

I have eaten at Rey's too many times to count. Rey has provided me with food for parties at my home, Christina has accomodated exceptional parties in the private rooms in the restaurant, and I've had personal, prompt and perfect service! I've never had a better steak, tuna or pork chops. \r\nIf you are in to fab food and stellar service, look no further than Rey's. You will not be dissapointed; I've never been.

Rey's is one of the best restaurants in the Raleigh/Cary area. The meals are perfect (size/quality/preparation) and the wine list is deep with excellent choices well priced and a helpful, knowledgeable staff to make the right choice.\r\n\r\nI have enjoyed several events at Rey's and all have rated excellent on my scale. Rey's is setting a high standard for other restaurants to reach.\r\n\r\nI have seen Rey himself at each of my visits. He takes the time to talk to each guest and and I have seen him on numerous occasions preparing flaming desserts at a guest's table! \r\nIt is nice to see an owner taking such an active role in his restaurant establishment. \r\nI can really tell that he takes pride in his restaurant and his staff does the same.

Have dined here since the days of Ruth's Chris. Rey is an exceptional host and pleasantly sees that everyone is happy. Nice, yet not stuffy. The bar is quite casual and there is ample seating as well.

I love Rey's food and the atmosphere is great! The owner is so hospitable and is involved in the community, giving back to charitable events, which makes us feel even better about our patronage. This is a great place for a date night or event!

I wish I could say that we had a great time at Rey's. Unfortunately, the service was poor and the food mediocre at best. I contacted the manager following our visit but received no response. I had expected at least ""I'm sorry for your experience"" but alas no contact. In this economy, restaurants and other service providers should make an effort to keep their customers happy. Here's a copy of the email I sent to the Rey's manager:\r\n\r\nI am writing to inform you of a poor dining experience we had at your restaurant on 2/13/09. We had reservations for a party of 5 at 6pm. We arrived just before 6 pm and were seated promptly. The host led us to the table, pulled out one chair, and then walked off with nary a word. We didn?t dwell on this too long but we?ve been accustomed to being welcomed, chairs pulled back for the ladies (2 in our party), and a little more courtesy. Throughout the evening, we noticed that he seated other parties quite differently and pulled back the chairs for most members of the group. Each of us had a different entree ?pork chops, pork loin, chicken piccata, French quarter chicken, and eggplant. The eggplant was simply bland, the French quarter chicken mediocre, and the rest of the food was ok. When we didn?t order an appetizer or soup, salad, our server?s expression and demeanor changed from being friendly and pleasant to being borderline dismissive. We decided against desert and his dismissive became, in my opinion, rude and discourteous. He yanked the dessert menus off the table and came back with the check. The manner in which he gave us the check was quite rude ? we had expected a ?Thanks for coming; I?ll take that when ready? or similar. Instead, without saying a word, the check was thrown on the table and he walked away ? w/out a word. At that point we were pretty disappointed with the attitude and left a tip appropriate for what we felt was a poor level of service at any restaurant and especially one like Rey?s.

Rey's is a very nice restaurant to go to when you have a lot of cash to spend. The interior is very elegant, the waitstaff is experienced to make you feel special. The food is delicious.

My sister and I took our mom here for her birthday. It was the first time any of us had been to Rey's. The atmosphere was very nice, and the service was outstanding. I know a lot of people like the fact that Rey seats people and goes to every table to see how things are, but to me I think it's a little much. If you know your food is good the only time you need to interact with customers is when they make eye contact with you or have left a lot of food on their plate, indicating that something is wrong. The French Quarter Chicken was so tender and the cheesy filling just melts in your mouth. I ordered Garlic Mashed Potatoes which were cold when they got to the table, but everything else was so delicious I didn't bother to complain or send them back. My sister ordered the creme brulee for dessert which apparently was amazing, because she wouldn't let anyone else even taste it! I will definitely come back to Rey's.

The food and the service were great!! We went for my husband's birthday in December, and the atmosphere was very romantic, and there was just the right touch of holiday decor. The food was seriously fabulous!

We went to Rey's last weekend with a group of five couples for a night out with friends. For most of the group, this was our first time at Rey's. The experience was top notch from the 'get go'. A friendly gentleman wearing a festive, yet tasteful, holiday tie opened the door with a smile...the experience only got better from there.\r\n\r\nThe atmosphere in the main room is classic ""steakehouse"". Our group, however, had a private room that worked very well. Whether you're looking to entertain clients or simply enjoy a nice evening with friends as we were, the private room at Rey's should be at the top of your list.\r\n\r\nThe bar served up superb dirty martini's. The entre's (surf and turf for me) were well-prepared and the service was attentive and engaging. (thanks Jerremy!) Afterwards, we enjoyed cigars and scotch in the bar.\r\n\r\nDo yourself a favor next time you make plans to have dinner with friends. Go to Reys. Oh, and the friendly guy in the holiday tie who opened the door with a smile...turns out he's the owner. Enjoy...we certainly did!

Pros: Across the board first rate dining experience

Whenever I am in Raleigh Rey's is THE place I go. Formerly a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, with Rey at the helm this has to be the Premier Steakhouse (with a French Quarter Flair) anywhere in the country. Raleigh/Cary/Durham residents are lucky to have Rey in their backyard.

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here a couple nights ago. We were met at the door with a handshake by Rey himself and promptly seated. The service was great all evening. The food was pretty good but not exceptional. All the entrees on the menu were $20 to $25 and the food was pretty good for the price. But then we received the check and were surprised to find that my ""special"" was $56, which changed our opinion! It wasn't that good. \r\n\r\nThis morning we were sharing our experience with friends and they said the same exact thing happened to them. So pretty nice dining experience but watch out for the special!

We were hesitant to go as we'd heard conflicting opinions. But, went for my wife's birthday and brought an expensive wine to celebrate - in fact wine was not on Reys wine list. Long story short -- we were charged a $25 corkage fee (a bit high) but our server did not tend to the bottle at all. She opened it, but did not pour it, or check on it, and we finally had to ask for an ice bucket to keep it cold (white). If you're going to charge 25 bucks, do your job. The final kicker was that our two friends with whom we shared the bottle, were charged an additional $10 to boot. I've paid a few corkage fees in my life, but never a ""sharing"" fee. Not to mention, we also ordered wine off the wine list as the one bottle we brought certainly wasn't enough for 4 people throughout a long dinner. These charges are the type of thing that will keep customers from returning. Quit nickle and diming your customers - you will pay a bigger price in the end. Additionally the servers had an ""attitude"" and ""tolerated"" us at best -- you can almost feel them rolling their eyes when they leave your table. Very unpleasant experience and we absolutely will not go back.

Cons: Sometimes I feel a little underdressed there but they never make any mention of it.

Being an out of towner, and from Miami I came to Rey's Restaurant with the notion that nothing can compare to many restaurant's in Miami that I have eaten out. Simply put, I was wrong, The service, food, surroundings, and just the whole experience was outstanding. I recommend this restaurant for anyone, who wants to have an enjoyable time, with family, friends, or maybe just a romantic date. The food was large portions, more then I can handle at least, and once again great service. And for those of us who enjoy the bar,let me just say this is a superb bar to maybe catch the game, or just enjoy a delicious drink. As I've said before come to Rey's Restaurant, for that perfect meal.

My future wife and I went there Saturday to celebrate and what a dining experience. The wait staff was welcoming, warm, and friendly as well as helpful. Rey is very involved and made us feel special and the meal was fantastic. We were hesitant on our wine selection but the waiter confirmed a great selection which turned the meal into something much more. After that what else is there to say other than Rey's coffee and cheesecake to finish the evening. Can't wait to have another chance to go there.

We were disappointed with the Oysters St. Charles appetizer, it was like oysters in oatmeal with very little taste other than salt water. Our entrees were decent but not fantastic. The waiter neglected to tell us about the specials also so others around us were being served things we didn't even know were available. We will not go here again. If we are going to spend $100+ on a meal it will need to be a better meal than this.

I took a first date there, the owner of my dealership recomended Reys. Great place to dine, the wait staff was very professional. Utmost respect for there customers. Loved the dim lights, really set off the place. I have dined all over the triangle, and havn't recieved service like this in any establishment. The wine selection was phenominal, the steak was tender, cooked to perfection. I would highly recomend Reys.

\r\nMy wife and I tried this restaurant for a second time, hoping that our first experience there was a one time bad event, unfortunately we were wrong.\r\n\r\nWe sat down to a nice wine, looking forward to a nice dinner, unfortunately when our food came out, it was far less than expected. Of everything we ordered, the only thing warm was my wife?s steak. My osso Boco, ice cold and fatty, the Garlic Mashed, cold again, oh and the asparagus, cold and undercooked, and then the hollandaise, well, I like mine when it has not coagulated.\r\n\r\nWe sent everything back, and out it came again, osso Boco was still cold, as was the asparagus. So back it went.\r\n\r\nWhen the owner came by to check on us, I told hi this was the second time we had come there and experienced this, he left the table like we had the plague.\r\n\r\nThe crowning touch, they offered us free desserts. Not bad, I thought, I was wrong again, the Bread Pudding, ice cold, coffee luke warm.\r\n\r\nDon?t bother wasting your money, try someplace else like Maximillians or Bistro 64, better staff, cooks and food for your money.

Make a reservation and remember the plates are really hot, so order your steak less cooked the plate will do the rest.

I joined an old friend for dinner at Rey's about a month ago. I was extremely disappointed. The food was o.k. at best. I have had better salmon at the Outback (which is usually a last choice). The steak looked good, but it's really not that hard to grill a steak. Everything else was second-rate- table service, the ambiance was stale, they served bottled water (in a .99 cent plastic bottle?), bad salad and overall there was nothing special about the place. For what they tout, they have certainly missed the mark. I am amazed that there is a 9.6 rating. People- you need to get out more often.

Wonderful atmosphere and food. Great place for adults. Food is delicious and priced appropriately. I wouldn't recommend taking children but I'm sure they are welcome. Have a drink at the bar with a cozy warm atmosphere and the fireplace is roaring (seasonal). The people that work there want to make you happy and can't do enough for you.

Rey's was a great dining experience. They have elegant ambience, and even had live music (this was on a Friday). All of the food we ordered was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The tuna appietizer, the creamed corn, and the French Quarter chicken were exceptional. I've seen other reviews stating that steaks were not properly cooked, but my husband's was perfect and he ate every bite. Other reviews also stated the martinis were not good; however, we sampled 2 -- the Metropolitian and Lemon Drop (which is not on the menu and is difficult to make correctly), and they were very good. Our waitress was attentive, knew the menu, and did a great job. Rey stopped by our table to make sure everything was to our liking. I was very impressed with our experience at Rey's and look forward to returning soon.

I found out about Rey's through city search. I invited one of my good friends to come along for dinner. The prices were ridiculous. The garlic mashed potatoes were cold (sure sign of a microwave). The microwavalbe potatoes wer $4. KFC has better ones. The steak that I ordered was over cooked. At the end of the experiece our waiter took forever to bring the ticket. Stay away

We went to Rey's with a large group (10 adults and 5 children) for a special occasion. We were seated in one of the private rooms. Although service was excellent, the food and drinks were ordinary at best. The martinis were just okay. I had the Hurricaine martini which was only vaguely reminiscent of the famous drink served in New Orleans. I followed that with a Maker's Mark martini (I forgot what they call it but it was supposed to be a New Orleans version of the Manhattan) which was not very good at all and sour mash whiskey is my favorite drink. You wound think after all that booze the food would have to be good. Not so much. The Grilled Chicken and Sausage Gumbo was the only high point of the meal. I ordered a 12 oz Filet medium-well and it came to the table RARE! I also ordered it blackened and as far as I could tell, it was not. I can make a much better steak than that for a fraction of the cost on my grill at home! The side dishes were nothing to write home about either. The Lyonnaise Potatoes\r\nwere like home fries from a road-side diner. The Herb Roasted Red Potatoes were just ordinary as well. The vegetable side dishes were a little better.\r\n\r\nWe had a great time and the ambiance is good so I can't blame the mediocre food on either of those things. For $60 per person (not counting the kids), I expect a much better meal. By-the-way, there is really no kids menu. Not that this should matter to most people going here - the only reason we felt okay taking kids is that we knew we were in a private room. They could keep something kid appropirate on hand though for just this type of situation.\r\n\r\nOverall, I would say skip this place if you are looking for good food. Ruth's Chris is a little more expensive but the food is much better and worth it in my opinion.

My husband and I recently spent our 9th anniversary with a dinner at Rey's. Probably not the best choice. Although the ambience is nice, our servers kept changing. One took the entree order, one pour the water, one took the dessert order and the check. Good grief! Maybe we smelled bad. Oh well. The dinner was mediocre. Nothing to write home about. The chicken piccata was a bit chewy, and could have been bursting with flavor, but someone missed the mark. The creme brulee should have been named soup brulee. What a disappointment. Even with a $25 gift certificate we still paid enough to refinance our house. Sorry Rey, we were just not impressed.

I really enjoyed dining there. Though it is far away for me (N. Raleigh), I think I'll make the trip frequently. My wife said her filet mignon was the best she's ever had. My waiter was great, the chef came out and spoke with diners, and the owner made the rounds as well- a nice touch.\r\n\r\nAfterwards, we went into their lounge and had a cigar. Loved it!\r\n\r\nOnly downer is their wine selection doesn't match the other positive aspects- and a $25 or $50 corking fee is ridiculous.

It is like Cheers! We have been quite a few times to dine at Rey's and EVERYONE knows our names. It is nice to be remembered and recognized. The food is exceptional and I highly recommend getting whatever the chef's nightly special is... we have not been disappointed yet! Oh, and you have to try the cheesecake - WOW! DELICIOUS!!!!!! Everything is homemade, from the bleu cheese dressing (best in town)to the chocolate raspberry truffle cake. (need I say more) Sometimes we eat in the lounge/bar rather than the dining room and the service is still perfect. Give it a try - you wont be sorry!

Waiters should be more knowledgeable but they make an effort. Crab cocktail was fresh. Remoulade had a balance of heat and flavor. Fried oysters would have benfited by salt and cayenne.\nFilet mignon was average needing more hollandaise. Only one tournados had crab. Quickly remedied but should have been caught before it left the kitchen. \nGrouper was superb. \nBananas Foster was dessert, made personally by Rey. It took a while to get the ingredients set up at our table. By the time he was igniting the brandy our vanilla ice cream had nearly melted. Still, they drew customary oohs and ahs from nearby tables. \nOurs was a romantic dinner, but it could also be a large adult-only group with a few apple martinis and some steaks. All in all Reys was good, but still a work in progress. Which way they head will depend on their committment to their craft.\n

I should have listened to the reviews... Rey's does not come close to ""fine dining with a french quarter flare."" The service was mediocre at best with little knowledge of the menu and far from fine dining expectations. The steaks were okay, little flavor to them, the Lyonnaise Potatoes were undercooked and not true lyonnaise -- the potatoes did not have the onion flavor as they should if cooked properly. The dessert I ordered, bread pudding, was obviously microwaved and spongy. Overall, not worth the expense.

My husband and I recently took some business colleagues to Rey's for the first time. Our first impression was nice, as the lounge is an inviting place to have a drink by the fire. While the atmosphere was nice in the dining room, there was a noticable absence of background music. I ordered filet mignon, and found it to be extremely overcooked and tough to chew. I would have sent it back, but I did not want to draw attention to it while entertaining guests. Though friendly, the waiter was more suited to a casual dining restaurant..his level of expertise did not rise to the high end menu. Overall, a very discouraging first visit. I don't think we will return unless it is only to the bar. We tried to really like it as we love to support independant restaurants. In the end, it came up short.

I came here before attending a show and was suprised to find it quite empty. The steak was tasty and cooked perfectly-I shared the 22oz Beef Tenderloin in bordelaise sauce. Watch out for the plates, they heat the dinner plates to 400 degrees. I'd recommend getting additional sides of vegetables-the vegetables that were provided were a bit sparse and a bit dry-almost overcooked. The steak however made up for it, and the Brie appetizer was one of the better Brie spreads I've had.

We love Rey's. Its the restaurant my husband knows is always a sure hit when we have out of town family or business meals. We also enjoy going when its just the two of us. You don't feel rushed to leave. You can enjoy your wine before dinner and your dessert time. Wonderful food. We especially love the Pork Loin. Rey is sometimes in the restaurant and makes our special out of town guest feel welcomed and special.\n\nHope you enjoy.

Romantic Ambiance, Excellent Food, Wonderful Wait Staff, we'll be back again soon! I tried the Turtle soup on the recommendations of other reviewers and I'm glad I did. It was wonderful and the added sherry took it over the top. If you're not sure which wine to order ask your server, their recommendations were right on the money. I would have never combined chicken and crawfish, thank goodness Rey did, the French Quarter Chicken was delightful. Please don't take the kids, we moms need to be taken someplace special for date night! The only negitive comment is the Ratatouille. Someone forgot the key ingredient, eggplant and the vegetables didn't have proper time to cook and let the flavors meld. That being said, Rey's was a wonderful taste and dining experience, one that will please even the most discerning appetites. \nDefinatly my date night favorite!

Wow - I had high expecations based on the 9.7 point ranking, but Rey's didn't live up to the mark. The marketing tag line says ""Fine Dining with a French Quarter Flare"", but they forgot the french quarter. There are more Italian items on the menu than there are French Quarter specialties!

Rey provided a special dinner for many of the drafting students that helped to provide artwork for Rey's. The students loved the service, food, and attention. Rey, Chef Jerry, Mike, Tom, Tim, Drew, Luis, Angie, Marie, Stacy, Jessica, and all the staff member came into the Mardi Gras room to let the students know how wonderful their work is and to provide encouragement. Rey came in and shared with the students about coming to America from Cuba, and making his dreams come true. Rey inspired the students to strive for success with hard work and determination to make their dreams come true. Jason served the students with flair, attention to detail, and respect. The food was fantastic and loved by all.

Tonight Jerry's special was cajun stuffed fish. It was the best fish I have ever tasted. The Talapia (I think that is how it's spelled) was stuffed with shrimp, crawfish, and lobster in a creole sauce. My husband and I thought we had died and gone to heaven. I love the way Rey lets Jerry get creative with his specials. The French Quarter chefs could learn a lot from Rey and Jerry.

We tried out Rey's last night, and it was fantastic! First of all, the customer service is EXECELLENT! We really enjoyed the food and thought that everything was very reasonably priced. There seemed to be plenty of menu selections. The bread and food came out fast (but not too fast) and hot right out of the oven. The dinner portions were very large, and we really did not need a side dish. The coffee after dinner was absolutely the best we've tasted. This restaurant truly impressed us!

I have been to other fine dining establishments and steakhouse-style restaurants in the area, and Rey's is by far the best! The food is of exceptional quality and the prices are comparitively less! I love the Voodoo lounge with the cozy couches and fireplace. The bar staff is fun, yet still very professional. The ambience all over the restaurant is great, too, fully decorated with local artwork. This place has got character...A must try!

My husband and I are from New Orleans and have searched 15 years to find a place that was like home. Finally Reys opened and we found oysters cooked perfectly and food with great flavor. We go 3 to 4 times a week and split a salad, entree, and a side. We still have food to take home for lunch, and we are losing weight. I love the owner, the staff, and the chefs, they are the greatest. I love the ever changing artwork, and the feeling of finally being back home again.

I was reading the last review and was astounded by it. My date and I had a wonderful dinner at Rey's on Valentines Day. You cannot expect to go out to dinner on a busy day like that and not hear another table. I cannot wait to return and try some other items on the menu! The wine list has a very nice selection for a very reasonable price.

My husband made a reservation at this ""NEW NICE"" resturant for Valentines. For us a night out with out kids is a treat. What a disappointments. It's so over priced that they should be ashamed of them selves! Add to that the fact that they charged nearly $20.00 for a baked chicken breast, they dare to charge you for EVERY side dish. Your $25.00 entree comes with NOTHING! EVERY side item is $4.00 - $5.00 extra. My chicken was bland but tender. My husbands steak was tastey but no better then any other steakhouse only priced about $9.00 more. YES, it's has linen table clothes but the tables are so close that any conversation can be heard 2 tables away. Personally...I hated it and cried at the waste of not only our night out but the $100.00 for the awlful dinner!
