Oh my gosh, is this store still open? I hope not, I heard that they relocated under a new name, "Fun and Fabulous" is this true? If so, I hope the owners and workers changed. However, there was one nice lady there, she was in her 40s or 50s, blonde, with glasses. The young girls and the owner were TERRIBLE at best! I find it interesting that the people advocating for this store are only pointing out customers having too high of expectations for customer service. In this economy, I think it is CRAZY to think that customers are going to expect low customer service. Plus, if you are into retail, then you should know that quality customer service is a must. Also, if you are presenting your store as a kid friendly place, then you run the risk of kids being loud or running around. Not saying that is acceptable or correct, but realistically, it happens. Still, regardless of a customer wanting good customer service or kids running around, that does not give the owner the right to do poor work on merchandise. The issue of this store is hit or miss quality work on merchandise and the sometimes I like you or sometimes I do not like you attitude of the owner. Those of you that like this store must admit, something is not right based on all these comments. I suggest that they bring in an outside consultant to do a Strenghts Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats anaylysis. One complaint, okay, but when your store has so many complaints, you have to do some sort of assessment and change the way you do business. For those of you making the case for retail, I have 10 years of experience. You WILL NOT survive on poor customer service and low quality work. Well, I guess that depends on what type of customer you are seeking.

I agree with so many of the comments here. I have patronized Alys over the past 8 years (roughly) and while I love the things that they stock, I always leave feeling a little sour at the poor customer service. It varies between aloof, ambivelant, and downright rude. I have not been in there for the past 3 years, because the last time, the were very rude. A real shame, because I try to patronize locally owned stores as much as possible.

It started from the time we walked in the door. We were not greeted at all as the clerks stood behind the counter silent. It was very uncomfortable to shop as they stared at us wherever we went still without speaking to us. Cute but over priced merchandise. Definitely not worth the time.

I dropped off an item (purchased elsewhere) to be monogrammed at the Ally's store at North Hills. The clerk was nice and helpful. I returned today to pick up the item. It had been monogrammed in the wrong place. I asked if the monogram could be redone without damaging the fabric. The clerk (a different one this time) did not know and called someone at the other store to ask. She put that person on the phone with me who basically said "so it's in the wrong place - why does that matter?" I was surprised to receive such a reaction. When the telephone conversation ended, the clerk in the store told me that I had no reason to be so rude to her - she wasn't the one who monogrammed my item. I was floored. I NEVER was rude to her. I was disappointed, as anyone would be but I was completely nice. I've worked in retail and customer service - I know what it's like and always try to act in a respectful manner.

The proper way for Ally's to have handled this situation was first to acknowledge and apologize for the mistake and second to try and make it right. Neither employee attempted to do this. I had to ask for a refund, which the clerk did give.

Ally's lost a customer. And in today's economy when customers are few and far between, that's really bad.

The owner is extremely curt and does not deserve to be in business since she does not know how to treat people. She is in need of A LOT of prayer and supplication. Patronizing Aly's is a vast mistake!

I also have to agree with those who love Aly's. I have also been in there when adults have let their children, even young teens just run wild, not even keeping half an eye on them. I go in with my daughter and I have taught her to respect things that someone is trying to sell. At places like Target I see kids running around, breaking things and I think, where are the parents.
The owner has never been anything but nice to us. Keri is very helpful with the embroidery, too.

I have never had a problem in this, store. Everyone always seems to be very friendly and help me when I need it with out being pushy. I have gotten many things monogramming and they have always been fast and affordable, and great quality. I have been in there when children have been acting up and the parents turn a blind eye. What is the staff/owner supposed to do let the children break everything in sight. I know that wouldn't happen if I had a store. Please shop Alys, it a great store that gives a lot back to our area.

I have visited this store a few times, the clerks are very snippy. The owner, she is a piece of work! She has POOR customer service skills. The straw that broke the camels back was me giving them $20 and the clerk claiming I only gave her $10. Trust me, I am not a violent person, but that day, I wanted to smack somebody. Cute stuff or not, I will never return to this place! Too bad you can not rate it ZERO.

I have to agree with many of the reviews. The store owner is quite rude and does not speak to you when you walk in the store. They have some cute stuff that is great for gifts and kids, but I will no longer shop here, because they do not seem to care about their customers or train their staff in how to welcome customers or handle orders.

after reading the reviews here, but my daughter had seen the store window and wanted to use her allowance there. Maybe the workers have changed their ways, or maybe we were lucky with timing, but the two young women there were very nice: offering to help but being unobtrusive as my 7 year old took an inordinately long time to browse. The woman who rang us up at the cash register (for small and inexpensive on-sale items) was pleasant, too.

Dirty looks abound if you happen to have kids with you while shopping. (This also applies to well-behaved kids that do not touch things that they are not buying). Also, God forbid you bring an item in for monogramming that did not come from their store. Be prepared for snooty comments about from where you might have bought it. Never mind that it is much higher quality than anything they have in their store (sans the 3x mark-up). **These comments (in my experience) apply only to the 2 women over 50 (one may be the owner/manager); the younger girls who work there and the woman who actually does the monogramming are generally very nice.

I thought this was a cute store at first. I purchased the car monogram decals. The girl at the register told me that it will be here in about 1 week. I called after a week, and she then said "oh we do not put those orders in till Friday. I said OK the girl did not tell me that. I tried to get a refund because she did not place the order yet and the owner, Suzanne was very rude and had no manager skills. She could not confront me about the situation. She left me a message with an attitude and did not even care to ask me what happened. I will never return to Aly's and I will not recommend this place to any of my friends and family!!

I've gone to Alys a ton of times and love it. I purchase items for my friends because the purses and jewelry are always really cool. I've gotten embroidery a few times and only one mistake, but that was easily fixed.

My family has their own store and I've been in the store once or twice when a customer has been yelling at one of the employees and it always irks me. Because of my family's business I've come to see that people really do expect too much. No one is perfect. I'm a teenager and even when I work, when kids come into the store and mess with everything and go on a rampage, it will drive you nuts. If you think the management is rude, it's probably because you're the one who is being rude.

So many people are complaining in these comments. They're out of their mind. WORK IN RETAIL AND YOU'LL STOP COMPLAINING!!!!

I really dont know what these people are talking about. i love this store, i get all my gifts here (for girls) and bring in all my personalizing. the one time i had a mistake which was my fault, they took it out with out a problem and redid it no charge. i have been in retail myself and some people expect everything in the world for nothing and walk around like they are god.

I was excited about this store at first, but it truly went down hill for me after my items were damaged. My wife and I are working class, live in North Carolina, have good family values, pay our taxes, volunteer in the community, and never ask for anything in return. At the very most, we like to be respected and not belittled. When we brought the damage to the store workers attention, she became defensive immediately and accused us of bringing the items in damaged. Please know that my wife and I do not own a sewing machine, and would never attempt to seek out "specialist" to do work we already attempted to do, it just does not add up. Plus, if the items were already damaged upon us giving it to the store, why would someone not say anything?. We were not getting anywhere, so we asked politely to speak to the manager, aka the owner. It took her forever to come from the back of her store, she stormed out anticipating a fight, she was very abrasive. When we tried to explain to her what happened, her mind was already made up. She immediately got defensive, and her voice raised. She also said, "we normally get material that cost at least $300, if I were here that day we would have not accepted this material because it is not consistant with the quality we service". Of course, this made us feel bad and made us think she was being an elitist. I am not sure why someone would say something like that to a customer. As her voice got louder, it took God to keep my voice calm, I finally indicated to her that her talking loud and down to us prevents making the situation right. Other customers walked out of the store, when she finally raised her voice saying, "God Damn it, get the Hell out of my store and don't come back". Please excuse me for using those terms, but I wanted to share them with others so that you can get the true feeling behind what she said. We will never go back to this store, and though we did nothing to deserve this, we prayed for the owner.

Pros: None

Cons: poor people skills, elite attitude, unprofessional, inappropriate, and lack basic skills to do the job

I took items to be monogrammed to Aly's - standard items - chose to go to her b/c I believe in shopping locally with small businesses. The lady was rude from the start, but I left the items and paid for them anyway b/c it was convenient and she promised them quickly. They were not completed when promised and when she "said" they were done to me on the phone - when I went to pick them up - half of them were not completed. She yelled at me from the time I walked in the door - and I am a patient person who does not yell or scream - her response to them not being finished was a snooty "Oh well". The ones she did were horrible and looked like they were done on an old machine that skipped stitches - very inferior quality and did not look like her samples at all. She ruined my good linens and was obnoxious all the while! She was very disrespectful to me and to my young son, who had birthday money and was dying to purchase a webkin. When we left the store - my 7 year old boy asked me "What was wrong with that lady? Was she having a bad day?" I was embarrased to him! I have been bothered by her behaviour all summer and out of curiosity looked up Aly's online and found other complaints that mirror my experience. Do not do business here - go to Monograms at Seabord Station instead and to the Learning Express for webkinz.

Cons: Everything!

I have experienced the rudeness of this store's staff before - but nothing like I experienced today. This store is a boutique type gift shop targeting tweens, teens and mommys. They also are a large volume seller of Webkinz. My 7 year old and 10 year old are HUGE fans of Webkinz and have been saving for several months to purchase a new addition for their collection. The last time we were in the store we were chastised when my children touched a toy before we purchased it. Today before we went in, I gave my children a huge pre-shopping lecture about not touching the toys before purchase. My children's behavior was impeccable the entire time we were in the store. The owner never welcomed us into the store and seemed annoyed when we arrived. My 7 year old finally settled on a toy (without touching it I might add) and went to pay with his little box of saved money. The total came to $16.00. He paid at least $10.00 in bills, but did use change for the balance. He is 7, so he had 7 year old money from the tooth fairy, extra chores, allowance, etc.. He was SO proud to carry all that money into the store to buy the toy ALL BY HIMSELF. The owner was obviously annoyed when we dumped the money on the counter - in fact she became very rude. There was no one else in the store, and really no reason to become so rude as we were not holding anything up. I began counting the money for him in order to speed up the process. She continued to be rude and cold to my children. I finally asked if she enjoyed children coming into her store. She said that "honestly" it was irritating to have a child come in and pay with change and she had "nothing to do with the change". She also said that my child had obviously learned nothing from the experience because I had counted the change for him. I mentioned to her that he had counted the change several times at home to make sure he had enough - and the only reason I counted it was because she was being so rude. I told her I found it interesting that she was selling Webkinz, when she obviously didn't like children coming in. She was rude and arrogant - totally lacking in humility. She mentioned she had children too. I don't know how you can forget what it feels like to be 7 and to have saved and saved for a special toy all by yourself. How could anyone be more concerned about a few extra coins than encouraging a young child with a kind word. I will NEVER enter this store again, and would recommend that you not either.

Pros: None

Cons: RUDE, ARROGANT

I have recently relocated to Raleigh, NC from Rochester NY. In the past 4 months that I have lived here, I have not encountered such a rude and disrespectful experience as I did at Alys this past Saturday 2/10/07. My conversation consisted of what a beautiful store she has and that I love all the unique items she has here which is very similar to my niece's boutique in Rochester. I had brought with me a few bracelets to show her and asked if she would be interested in seeing them. Her body language, facial expression and overall comments to me were extremely rude and disrespectful. I have spent over $400.00 at this store in the past four months. It is unfortunate for her that I will never bring my business to Alys again in the future.

I try to frequent smaller boutique's instead of big-box stores. However, with the cutomer service I recieved here- I will not be back. 2 of the employees that I was in contact with were rude. I purchased something to get embroidered and was told it would be ready by a certain time on a certain day. When I went to pick it up an hour after the guaranteed time, I was told to wait another hour. The lady was rude and gave me no option but to wait. The final product was not even the quality that they show on display in their store. It looked rushed and incomplete. I would recommend a certain store in the mall before I would spend another dime in this RUDE shop.
