I've been here 4 times now. Every time, I've been disappointed with the food -- but the setting (scenery) is great.

You'll wait sometimes 15 minutes before seeing your waiter. You'll then order steak, or ribs, and get very low quality

I have been there twice and both times were magical.

The first time I went with a group of 5 and the server was very friendly and funny. I got the cheeseburger and Samlon chowder soup, it was amazing. I should have split the burger with someone. We got there early enough that it was still light outside and the view was great! We walked on the deck which has tons of seating and took pictures.

The second time I took my mother in law there for lunch and again we had a great server who was friendly and funny (a different one from the first time).

We eneded up splitting the cheeseburger because she just had to try it. And we both got the salmon chowder which was just as good as the first time.

Great experience!

We have been everywhere this month on the search for the perfect date-night dinner. This place had it all! Although this restaurant is really known for the views and setting, it was rainy and dark so we really could only guess at what it would look like in the day, but the lights way up in the trees in the parking lot gave a nice ambiance. However even without the view, this place stood on its own.
From the moment we arrived we were greeted with above average service. As we approached our window seat in the corner we admired the rustic decorations accented by magnificently high natural stained log ceilings and walls. The mood was further set by romantic low lighting provided by a warm fire, and tastefully placed iron and cow hide chandeliers. Our server "Mitch" , was immediately table side offering the wine list and specials. We had the smoked salmon chowder and the asparagus and goat cheese salad as appetizers. The portion size and plating was spectacular. We also enjoyed the house Ale that was buttery and light and a bottle of their reasonably priced white wine. For the entree the Smoked cherry baby back ribs were to die for. Not to be outdone the Northwest Cioppino was melt in your mouth amazing. Truly blown away by the portion sizes, granted this was a lodge setting but what VALUE!, The portions were such that we had leftovers of everything at meals end. Excellent value, exceptional service and an amazing setting makes this a new date night favorite for this couple**

We were very concerned after reading some reviews on here but had been told by several people that it was a great place to go. My wife had the salmon oscar and loved every bite. I had the grilled ribeye and it was wonderful. Slightly over the medium I ordered but so tender I could cut it with a fork. For those of you reading these reviews, it seems that everyone who thinks they are the best cook in the world, they can find fault in everything that they don't cook themselves. This was a wonderful dining experience.

We live close by and had been thinking of trying this restaurant for awhile. The only thing we liked was the surroundings and view. It started off odd as the hostess acted completely put out that we didnt have reservations, but was still able to seat us immediately. Then we sat there for 15 minutes before a server came over. There were many open tables, but they seemed very understaffed. I figured with a menu so small, the food must be really good, but I was wrong. It was bad. I had the ribs which had good flavor, but were really tough. My husband ordered a med rare steak that was well done and very tough. The garlic mashed potatoes were not good either. We felt very ripped off that we paid almost $100 for dinner and it wasn't at all good. The whole experience was a big let down!

Ok, I thought the service was good, but i think we just got lucky. The food was absolutely horrible. I had the cioppino and it tasted like chefboyardee..no joke! i heard a lady complain next to me about the same thing. My daughter ordered a burger off the kids menu and it came with a preformed( obviously frozen) piece of meat between a stale bun. come on! no lettuce, tomato,or cheese?! she took one bite, i took the rest home for our dog. anyway, i thought about giving them another shot for brunch, but i'm feeling a little r*ped. we'll see....

I took my wife here for a special dinner and the food was excellent. The salmon was very well prepared and the full slab of ribs I ordered was wonderfully smoked and melted off of the bone. A little spendy but a great treat.

We went to Stone Cliff Inn for a birthday dinner, there were 9 of us. It was a home run; all the appetizer, dinners, and drinks were very nicely prepared, delivered hot and on time, each order was correct. The service with a very pleasant, and our server (I think her name is Jena) did a wonderful job, with a fun attitude and great smile and great service.

The meals were very well presented, full of very colorful vegetables, potatoes or risotto and the main dish. I had the Bourbon Sirloin cooked perfectly, rare just as I had ordered. The some of the other dishes we had were: Ginger Honey Glazed Salmon, Hazelnut Chicken, Fettuccine Marsala with Chicken. Everyone gave good comments on their meal.

We started with the Hummus Plate, Wild Salmon Cakes, Jumbo Onion Rings, Classic Caesar Salad. Again, they were all very tasty.

I read the review on Citysearch after I heard where we were going and I though ??oh no?, but The Stone Cliff really came through to deliver a fantastic evening.

We live out by the Stone Cliff Inn and found it because I had a work dinner out there (it's kind of hidden being that it's up on the edge of cliff). We've been back several times, both by ourselves and with guests from out of town. Each and every time we have a wonderful experience... the place is always relaxing and quiet, the food is delicious, the view spectacular, the drinks good, and the price is decent, too. This is one of our favorite nearby places to eat.

My wife and I went to the Stone Cliff Inn last night for the first time in almost two years for Valentine's day dinner. Everything was wonderful! We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and were greeted promptly by a hostess who let us know our table would not be ready for about 20 minutes. We understood because it was packed. We got a glass of wine from the bar where we met the manager and were seated about 10 minutes later. Our server was excellent, our water glasses never went empty and the food was excellent.

The regular menu looked good, but my wife and I decided to order off of the special menu. We had the appetizer, an imported meat and cheese board with assorted condiments served beautifully on a granite tile. My wife had filet mignon with a crab stuffed lobster tail, asparagus and fingerling potatoes, and I had a melt in your mouth cut of slow smoked prime rib with mashed potatoes, porcini mushroom au jus and horseradish sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly, presented artfully and served very quickly. The wine list is extensive and mostly from the North West, we chose a nice bottle of "next" Pinot Noir. The Special dessert, Champagne ice in a martini glass with raspberries and HUGE chocolate dipped strawberries filled with Grand Mariner was a very nice ending to a great meal. Two thumbs up to the Chef and cooks.

The night could not have been better, thank you Stone Cliff Inn. We will definitely return and look forward to sitting on the patio this summer!

Pros: Food, service, ambiance & the view of the river

Really attractive place and if you are seated in the right place the view is great. The menu is good, but in reality the food is a little bit disappointing for the price.

I Live very close to this restaurant and realy hoped with a new chef it would get better but Im sorry to report that its an even bigger joke than it used to be where did they get this fool .
We ordered 4 apitizers and 4 entrees and he did not get one thing right along with very slow service from a poorly trained waiter when we complained the chef came out to talk to us he was laughing when he informed us that it was his first week and that none of the staff he had were up to the job and he promised it would get better,
If the staff are no good this place should not be open let alone charging these kind of prices this place is a joke and the joke is on the poor customers I will never return

My family visited this restaurant recently to celebrate both my sister's and my birthday, and our entire evening was ruined from the very moment we walked in the door. I will say, that this restaurant is absolutely beautiful, with a beautiful location, but that is all they've got going for them. They were operating the night we were there without a functioning women's bathroom. Their servers were disorganized, and unable to accomodate our table as we were all served at spiratically different times rather than all at once. I never even received an order. When both of these things were brought up there was no apology. The people running this restaurant have a God complex like no other. In a struggling economy, it's amazing to me that this place cannot pull it together and step it up to set themselves apart and give their customer base a reason to come back.

I like to think that I know good food. My rapidly expanding waist line is evidence of this. So I can say with confidence that you would be wise to visit the Stone Cliff Inn.

For starters, the building itself is incredible. Built with, I believe, Doug Fir logs the size of Paul Bunyon. It is a marvel. The view of the Clackamas River took my mother's breath away when I brought her here for a mother's day brunch two years ago.

As for the food, the salmon chowder, the mussels, and the bourbon steak are dynamite. The mussels come in this butter sauce (I think) and it is amazing when combined with the toasted bread that comes with the dish. My girlfriend had the ribeye and it was quite good. But you must have the salmon chowder. It's like clam chowder. But with salmon and big chunks of bacon. Yeah. I said chunks of bacon.

My wife and I had ordered our dinner when the conversation between the waiter and the group sitting at the next table took place, the customer was questioning based on what they were seeing on the plate "Whether the waiter or cooks had washed their hands?". If we had not ordered, we probably would have left, and that would have been a mistake, for those of us that need absolute proof.
Our dinners arrived and I noticed something that was not right. Nearly 15 minutes later waiter checked back and realized that my plate was untouched, when I expressed my concern, his comment was " I'm sorry the Chef is been off a little tonight, would you like some desert now ?"
We were presented with the full bill, after, the waiter acknowledged the validity concerning the food, we paid we left feeling confident that we would not return. Stay clear of their meats, especially the "burbon steak with carmalized onions" my wife did her best but that was nasty meat. Final remark, it is dimmly lit, observe closely what you are about to eat.

We go there for lunch and it is delightful. The prices are a little above average but well Worth it. Overlooks the Clackamas River and it is a wonderful place to enjoy the scenery. They have a wide variety on the menu. I have never been there for dinner but based on our lunch would recommend it.

My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner at the Stone Cliff Inn, and we will NEVER go back.

Things started out ok. The room was set up and everything was good to go when we got there. Then our 1 server (for 25 people) came up and took drink orders. I was a little upset that they had only 1 person set to help us. Then when the drinks came, mine was incorrect. I specifically asked for a certain kind of tequila, and was given something else. Then I asked for an ice tea, which I didnt get until almost 30 minutes later.

Then they took the food order. We were limited in our selection to three entree choices we had made ahead of time. I picked the Salmon Oscar because it sounded really good and was something I had wanted. The one server took everyones orders and left. When he came back with the starters, my husband and I were the last people served. As the bride and groom, I would have expected to be served first. The ceaser dressing on my salad tasted old. Not sure how else to explain it, but I couldn't eat it.

Finally the entrees came, and again I was one of the last people to get my food. However, they mixed up orders and one of my bridesmaids had to send her food back 3 times before they got it right. By the time I was able to eat, my food had started to get cold. The red potatoes had a lot of pepper on them and the salmon I ordered had a severe fishy taste. It is not fresh at all, like it claimed to be. After sitting there crying for a few minutes, my husband took my plate and found the server. They made me something else. By the time I got my new meal, everyone else was done eating. It was ok, but obviously it was rushed.

The waiter was rude to me and the resturant made no effort to fix the issue. I called my planner who called the resturant the next day. I never heard anything else from the resturant. After all that, I will never go there again and I am warning other brides to be careful before booking here.

Cons: Food, Service, Management

Although this restaurant serves good food and decent service I would not recommend dining here. My husband and I have dined here frequently, usually paying with a credit. At our last visit the tip had been altered with a 1 written in front of the actual amount. The total amount had also been altered and that was what was charged to our credit credit. Although the restaurant will be crediting back the unauthorized $100 that was written in by them, it is still a sign of dishonest associates working in the establishment. Who knows what else has been taken from us or other patrons?

My experience at this restaurant was mixed. On one hand, during the beginning, the service was excellent. Lots of smiles and friendly greetings. The view was beautiful as well. But, upon eating our supposed "sumptuous" steaks, we quickly learned that we had mistaken a good view for culinary quality. We ordered the Steak Frite, which is a Bourbon style steak with carmalized onions on top. Now, I have had good or medium quality Bourbon style steaks as well as premium quality ones in restaurants throughout the U.S. But, this was far lower quality steak than I expected. There were no carmelized onions, the sauce was watery, and the medium well steak was more like the consistency of a well-done piece of meat from your local grocer. The two steaks were drastically different in texture and size; thus, we knew that consistency was a problem at this restaurant. The steaks were also served above room temperature, or tepid, as if they had been sitting while the fries were cooked. If you're looking for a good view and low-tier restaurant food, then this is the place for you. After asking the waitress to mitigate the offering of this half-eaten steak, she brought the chef and manager to explain to us why this was such an outstanding steak. In all truth (because this is probably the worst customer service I ever received at a restaurant), the chef and manager humiliated us in front of the other patrons - causing us to leave in utter frustration. Call it random, but I hope this never happens to other customers. To seal the deal, as we left, they gave us snide smiles and uttered in overt sarcasm, "have a nice day." This restaurant ruined our day.

Pros: River views are excellent and food is very good

Cons: pricey menu

This is the place we go for all the special "days" (mother's, father's, etc.). The food is amazing, the view is even better. On nice days, you can eat on the deck, high on a cliff, overlooking the clackamas river.

I decided to take my boyfriend to Stone Cliff because one of my friends told me it was currently her "favorite" place for dinner! She was right!! I called the day of our date to make restervations and the gentleman on the phone was very polite and helpful. I wasn't sure if I wanted to sit outside pending the chilly weather but he said he would make sure we had a window seat. When we arrived we were pleasantly greeted and showed right to our "window seat".. We had the spinach dip as an appetizer.. and it was delicious.. highly recommend it! Our waiter was very polite and prompt with service and our dinner was very tasty as well! Overall I would recommend it for a romantic dinner date or even a fun dinner out w/ friends! It was great!!

My husband and I decided to try Stone Cliff on a recommendation from a friend that had brunch there. We went for dinner around 5:30 on a Saturday night without any reservation and we had no problem being seated (this was in the wet spring and you may want to make a reservation during warmer months). My husband and I dine out often and we were both so impressed with the food and service, that the restaurant surpasses MANY of the fine dining establishments in downtown Portland! The prices are on average $25 for a dinner entree but the amazing food, outstanding service, and beautiful view of the river make the price well worth the experience. We look forward to trying brunch there soon and will definitely be back for dinner again and again!

Pros: Amazing food and the best service you will ever encounter!

Cons: Price is high and not the most convenient location but well worth the money and drive!!

We decided to try this place based on a friends recommendation. We went for brunch on a Sunday sipped on bloody mary's. I had the ribs and my husband has a burger and salmon chowder (which was soooo good) I would go back just for the drinks and chowder. Great service very relaxing would definatly go back many times!! Next time I will try the salmon scramble. Enjoy!

Restuarant is beautiful. food is expensive and average. Drinks expensive and less than average. If you can go in and lookk around and leave without spending a cent you are in great shape.
