I've lived in the East Bay on and off for the last year and have had 4 assignments with Diversified, ranging from reception to inventory in a warehouse to filing in the SF financial district.

I don't have much experience, but I think they see I work hard and I feel like they really do the best to get work for me. I've learned quite a bit. I've liked some employers more than others, but never had any problem with Diversified. Very friendly, even when I've asked them to fax me a last minute time sheet.

Plus, I don't know what the previous reviewer is talking about about public trans, because I haven't driven to any of my assignments and the people at Diversified keep this on record--they go out of their way to tell me the public transit directions with out my even asking. I'm not coming from San Mateo, but they are located in Oakland, so realistically they can only cover a certain geographical distance.

I will say that my assignments have mostly been short--2 weeks max, or weekly for 8 weeks. But this is what I've wanted--I think they would accommodate temps who want more intensive work too.

Finally, most or all of their employers are non-profits or government orgs, which fits my comfort zone a bit more in terms of office culture.

4/5 stars--one star off just because I could do with assignments a little more frequently. but in this economy, I don't really blame them...
And this change of phone systems away from a 9-5 receptionist.

Pros: find employers that fit the specific temp, friendly

Cons: no longer answer their phones--must now leave message(?)

When I was hired by Diversified, they did a decent job finding me work. Clerical jobs here and there, plus a short-term IT job that was fun.

About six months later, I was re-hired for that IT job by the same company. A short time later, Diversified's recruiter--I think her name is Cathy--saw me working, talked to the VP of Finance, and said that I belonged to Diversified. Basically, they have a contract on me.

I was told that the contract is such that I must not be employed by Diversified for one full year before I can go back to that company and work independently.

Today I called Diversified to get a letter of release, confirming that I was no longer under them, only to be told that I have to work 600 hours for Diversified before I'm released, and even after that, I'll still get paychecks through them, not through the company I'm working at. Diversified refused to give me a letter of release.

I feel betrayed, and hope no one else has to go through this.

Whatever you do, no matter how desperate you get, don't sign up with Diversified! They're liars and cheats!

First of all they want their temps to drive. When I register for temp agencies, and when they have work, they allow me to take public transportation. If the temps have to drive, they want local temps only which have to live in Oakland or Alameda county. No San mateo County.
