In Short
Though the decibel level in the dining room is high and customers often wait hour or two on prime nights, people keep coming back for the tasty seafood. The blackened catfish filets are delicious, nicely spiced, charred and moist. The seafood-and-andouille gumbo is a hearty broth flecked with sausage, shrimp, crab and a plump little oyster. Other standbys include versions ofetouffee, po' boy sandwiches and fried, broiled and grilled dishes.

Ratings_icons Best Crabcakes in Town!

Shannon A. | insider Insider | Rank: 27,279

Just thinking about Pappadeaux is making my mouth water! I generally go there on the weekend for lunch as it is less crowded then. The service has always been fantastic and friendly. I typically order the same thing every time: The absolute best greek salad made tableside with a nice big shrimp or two in it - the quality of the shrimp is impeccable. Then we move on to the crabcakes - they are so flavorful and come dressed in a delicious buttery sauce with diced mango & tomatoes and crispy sweet potato strings on top. This is fresh crabmeat, people - not canned. Finally, we have to have a slice of sweet potato pecan pie a la mode. Don't skip this dessert, I'm telling you. I'm not a fan of sweet potatoes or pecan pie, but this is a marriage made in heaven. No matter how stuffed I am, I have to have some - even if it's to go!

I have also had their fresh catch of the day with the alexander sauce (fresh lump crabmeat in a creamy sauce) is to die for. In the summer, be sure to check out their patio which has some nice live music.

Ratings_icons Good sub for New Orleans

ZachOnSkis

Pappadeaux has good, fresh and tasty seafood options that remind me of New Orleans. It's not as good as New Orleans but it'll hold me until I can hop on a plane and grab a hot and fresh beignet.

Not a lot to add in my review but a good tip is to not order off the regular menu when they are doing the Sunday buffet brunch maddness. It takes FOREVER and a day to get your meal out to you. Don't fight it, just do the buffet if you are there on Sunday.

Pros: Fresh & tasty seafood

Cons: Don't order off regular menu during Sunday brunch maddness

Ratings_icons Poor Service

My family and I were excited to take my daughter to Pappadeaux for her birthday, and I have to say this was the worst service I have ever experienced.. The waitress took forever to bring our appetizers and our main meals. Others who were sitted after us, received their appetizers and main meals before we did. It took so long to get our food, we didn't even have to complain to the manager. The manager came to us apologizing for the slow service and offered us two complimentary desserts. We were very disappointed with some of our meals as well. My mom's scallops were not warm. My daughter's Filet Mignon was cooked well done when she asked for medium. My dad's chicken breast might as well have been jerky since he was having a hard time cutting through it with a butter knife. Although the place was very busy, I have been to other restaurants that were just as busy and have experienced way better service. With the prices of the meals at Pappadeaux, one would expect better service. We were VERY disappointed and will more than likely not be going back anytime soon..

Pros: Nothing positive to say

Cons: Service, Cost

Ratings_icons Worst Dining Experience

madmom31

I took my family to Papadeaux for a Sunday night dinner. We had to yell across the table to each other because of the noise. There were trays of leftover meals and dirty dishes in several places across the restaurant. The food was costly for the dining experience. We eat out at various restaurants at least once each week and this is the worst experience I have ever had!!

Pros: I can't think of anything positive to say!

Cons: It was horrible!!

Ratings_icons Wonderful staff, great food

This was our first experience at this restaurant. We ate at Pappadeaux's for the Father's Day brunch. We had reservations (highly recommended) and only had to wait about 10 minutes for our table. The only negative was when the hostess attempted to give our table away to another couple while we were in the buffet line but that was quickly resolved by my daughter, who had been keeping a watchful eye, as well as our waiter who said he was "looking out for us." The buffet line passed rather quickly considering there were several inpatient people who felt they were an exception to having to wait in line and were breaking into the line at various spots, very annoying! One idiot woman was juggling three plates of food! The food was delicious, very flavorful. Granted, we have only had one other experience with Cajun Food, but the salmon, catfish and alligator (not part of the buffet), were especially tasty. The service from our waiter was outstanding. He did a magnificant job keeping our glasses full, considering how extremely packed with customers the restaurant was. He was most hospitable and gave us background information on the restaurant, the food and the chefs. All of his customers were very well tended to. He did suggest to us that we return for dinner when things were not so crazy because he felt we would truely enjoy the experience much more and he said the dinners are nothing shy of spectacular. Realizing some people are just never happy no matter what, I would hope the previous customers who have left negative feedback won't discourage others from eating at this restaurant, it is by far one of the better restaurants in the entire metro area for service and tasty food. The price for the buffet, $22.95 per person, was very reasonable when compared to other restaurants of the same calibur who charge upwards of $30 to $50 per person for their buffets. We were very pleased overall and will definitely return!

Pros: EXCELLENT service, very friendly staff, great parking, great ambience

Cons: hot food was served first, by the time you get through the buffet line the hot suff was no longer hot!

Great crab finger appetizer, if your someone who loves seafood and a nice atmosphere, you'll fall head over heels for Pappadeaux! Its a little pricey, but absolutely worth it. I often take buisniess clients to this restaurant for lunch, and find the staff always very polite and accomodating.

Pros: The food!

Cons: It can get very loud in the restaurant.

Ratings_icons Phenomenal Seafood and Service

nicbo

This was a favorite years ago and this summer's visit was no different. The food was fantastic and all 4 members of the party left full with food still on the plates! Top notch service and setting. Musicians playing in the bar area, great for a different and fun night

Pros: Great service and atmosphere

Cons: Slightly pricey (but it's still worth it)

Ratings_icons Worst crawfish etoufee

chadwickcody

I dined at pappadeax's on june 17th with my family for fathers day. It was a huge disapointment--the food was tastlest and exstremly bland, not to mention the worst etoufee I have ever had. In addition to the poor service, there were tray stands left through out the restaurant pilled with dirty dishes for long periods of time. wich is very unsanatary and gross, not to mention not being allowd to sit on the patio because we were having dinner, and not just appetizers. Over all I will never return or recomend this restaraunt to anyone. FIVE THUMBS DOWN ! ! ! !

Pros: Nothing

Cons: just about nothing

Ratings_icons Bad customer service, things mysteriously lost

yummyfoodindenver

We had lunch here recently, after many years of enjoying what they had to offer. The customer service was not at all up to par, the food was not as good as it used to be. My husbands phone was left on the table, and when we got to the car realized it was inside. He went in, only to be told that the phone was not there. After attempting to speak with a manager, he was brushed off and told tough luck. Honesty is important to have in all staff, especially servers who work very hard for their money.

Pros: great oyster trios and mediteranian calamari, and yellow fin tuna

Cons: dishonest staff, poor customer service by managers, dirty glasses and forks

Ratings_icons By far some of the worst seafood ever had! The price just makes it worse!

stevenwarnold

Saturday night 7:30PM, with reservations. FIRST VISIT. 1st the good, seated within minutes of reservation, service outstanding and the specialty drinks we ordered wonderful.

However, the bad: We were quite shocked to discover that the New England clam chowder seemed to have been made from pure salt. My wife always salts her food way too much, no salt added here by my wife and this chowder was so salty that you could chew on the salt. We had to send the chowder back 1st time for us anywhere. We are still enjoying our drinks after appetizers of frogs legs and alligator, and bread all which were just OK, not what you would expect for the price. So you would expect that we would be much more tolerant of the food having enjoyed the extra alchol in the specality drinks. Regretfully, NO!! The main course came and the tuna special was very dry and extremely salty, the soft shell crab tasted like nothing I have ever eaten!

Regretfully even though we had already sent back the chowder ealier and it was obvious that we didn't care for the dinner we still had to ask to see a manager when the bill arrived. After waiting for a manager to arrive, turned out to be a young man around 22 years old (on a busy Saturday night?) arrived to discuss our meal with us. I asked that he remove the 2 dinners that the 3 of us had ordered from the bill. Even though he listened to our review and was quite polite, I still felt like I had to ask him to at least try the chowder, as it seems to me that he was just tolerating us at a minimum. He advised us he would see what he could do for us (thought he introduced himself as the manager?) My wife and sister-in-law became so irritatated with the delay in the return of our bill, that they both left the restaraunt after 7 minutes and I waited at the table at least 12 to 15 minutes to have the bill returned to me!!

What is most distressing is that the Manager didn't seem to care whether we liked the food or not and did not ask us back!

Pros: Good Service, Great Drinks

Cons: Lousy Food & on a Saturday Night the Manager looks to be around 22 yrs old!

Ratings_icons Unimpressive First Experiance

cabaker

Large Group - don't, with reservations, they could not find enough seats and were seated over a half an hour late and still 2 seats short. 2 of our group lunch shared a table with 2 kind gentlemen whose table was given to another party while they were in line for the buffet. The food was fine in the brunch buffet but don't leave the table unattended because you may lose it. They didn't do well with the orders either, the 2 guys whos table was lost was but on our parties check and had to wait over 20 minutes for that correction. For the price, being seated so late, there was not much on the buffet so you got to wait in long lines there too. If I ever go again, follow these rules no party over 4, go early and leave somone at the table at all times.

Pros: Buffet

Cons: Organization, Service, Price

first glance looked to be upbeat and fun, but all went down hill when we started to oreder. I was exited to try out the oysters on the half shell but was told that there
were no more oysters at all for any of the dishes!!!(we arived there at 6.00pm!!)
We had to scan the menu one more time and decided on calamari, when it arrived
we discovered that only the top layer was calamari!! The rest of the bowl was filled
with old fried artichoke that someone forgot to clean out of the fryer! About 25 minutes
after placing our order a man came to our table to inform us that out ticket had been
lost and that they just started cooking it. I was shocked that some kind of discount or other services were not offered. I actualy feel guilty for spending our hard earned money there!

Pros: large dining area

Cons: bad food, bad service, unprofessional

Ratings_icons Loud and Saucy

bhaskel

Unbelievable loud - and getting louder as we joined the din after a couple of drinks. Good service, okay food -- I'm not a big fan of the sauce covered seafood, but probably just par for the New Orleans style seafood. We had a great table in a greenhouse seeming area. Lots of huge tables. We had no wait with our reservation and found the place in the nick of time - get directions before you go if you're not familar with GW Village.

Pros: Party Ambience, Good waitstaff

Cons: Heavy on the sauce, Pricy

Ratings_icons Not Worth the Hassle

theairdog

There are other better places to go.

The food is average to above average. I did think highly of their oysters on the half-shell, but the experience was underwhelmed by the huge crowd.

Cons: , Noisey, LONG wait....

OK overall but apparently overrated--if considered among the best.
Waitress was more interested in reciting the specials at nearly incomprehensible speed-and turning over the table-than to point out the unavailability of standard menu items.
Average, at best-but made better by a fine blues group in the bar/patio area.
I'm sure Denver can do better.

Pros: eclectic crowd, good music

Ratings_icons Great Restaurant

pointe00

This is a great restaurant. The food is excellent, and for anyone who thinks that the prices are too high, you obviously haven't seen the portions that are served. The average person could make at least two meals out of nearly every entree. I recommend this to all of my friends and relatives, and often bring them along with me.

Ratings_icons Room for improvement

jcjoda

Atmosphere is great. Food is inconsistent. The boiled shrimp was great on one visit and mushy the next.
Service is lacking. On my last visit, four of us went there for a Satruday night dinner. My meal didn't arrive until everyone else was finished with theirs.

The only thing my Papadeaux waiter offered to make amends was his apologies and a doggie bag (they wrapped the entire meal to go before I even took a bite). They wouldn't keep the entree and take it off the bill. I ended up throwing the meal away the next day when I learned leftover seafood doesn't microwave very well.

Pros: ATMOSPHERE

Cons: SERVICE, CONSISTENT QUALITY

We happened upon Pappadeux 3 years ago while staying in the hotel next door. We LOVED everything - so tasty! We recently took another trip to Denver last week and purposely booked again at the SAME hotel so we could once again enjoy Pappadeaux! As usual, we were completely satisfied -we'll be back!!!

Pros: service, tasty food, location

Cons: price

I've been to this restaurant a couple times and everytime I have absolutly loved my food. The staff has always been extremly good and I would recommend this restaurant to any seafood lover!

Ratings_icons Not for true seafood lovers

Princess77

My boyfriend raved about this place, so I was very excited to go. I had the grilled seafood plate, and tried everyone elses fried shrimp, crab, catfish, chicken and alligator. I suppose that anything breaded and fried tastes good, but I think it is a crime to cover seafood with batter. It was fine. The oreo mousse was great, but how could they mess that up? It is good for picky eaters, and people who like their seafood over-cooked, and covered up.

Pros: Large portions, Good desserts, Many choices

Cons: too much food, Overrated

We went here last weekend (saturday night) and our server was a gentleman named Chris Bower. At first I thought he was flirting with my wife, but very quickly it became evident that this kid is excellent at what he does. He's a charmer, an excellent waiter, and one of the most entertaining people I've ever met. Seriously, after a less-than-thrilling meal, I've already made plans to come back next Saturday, just because of this guy. I wish everyone here was as wonderful!

Ratings_icons Fun Times at Pappadeaux

ConsumerProtector

We have ate at Pappadeaux's on a few occasions since Denver is mainly comprised of chain restaurants. We like their fresh selections of the menu and stay entirely away from the large fried section of the menu. Fried seafood..you don't do this, but this is the cajun influence (fried taste vs seafood). We also enjoy their beverage selection which also offers wine flights and Frogs Leap wine only available in top tier restaurants continues to be one of our favorites. We enjoy the energy of the atmosphere and would note the desserts as something to enjoy but you can easily share

Pros: fresh seafood, service

Cons: fried seafood, fresh seafood sauce, little pricey

Ratings_icons Pappadeaux is great for your dough.

briansam

You guys forgot to mention some other great dishes
that are much better than just crawfish and catfish. The Ponchatrain is to die for!! You can't go
to Pappadeaux without trying the BBQ Shrimp or the Shrimp & Oyster Fondou. I've been to many
Pappadeaux through out the country and I've never been disappointed. I just wish we had the
Pappasitos Mexican Res., there would be twice as many people there if Denver had one!!

Pros: Fresh seafood, great variety, daily features
