hi guys.. i disagree on some of the comments where they praised the store apna bazzar in beaverton OR. i have lots of my friends who shops there but their customer service sucks.. and the owner of the place srinivas is so disrespectful and my friends tell me he never has a smile on his face.. i cant believe if there is a owner of some place he should be friendly and nice.. even i witnessed it myself. he is so rude and i noticed when he sees some customers he pretends to be so nice all that.. but you can tell its all fake. seriously i dont get people like that i hate people like him... you guys should go to india connect instead.. seriously i have nothing against the owner of the apna bazar but seriously he always tends to have attitudes and i think he doesnt deserve customers like us going to his stores and he gets the benefit for nothing

I think Apna Bazaar is the best indian grocery store in portland, beaverton area, matter of fact, all other stores are copying apna bazaaar and very much jealous of its success. I requested to the owner for few pakistani grocey items, and within 2 weeks those items were in the store. Store clerk Vanita is wonderful person, very soft spoken and helpful. Yes, sometimes I found couple of shan masala boxes are expired, then what, its not a big deal, even american store sell expired items. I went to different indian grocery store and found a shan masala expired in 2005. Owner is very humble, down to earth guy, very helpful to the communty events and fully supports communty related programs regardless of language, religion and cultural differences. So why not we also support Apna Bazaar for their dedication and true service to our Indian/Pakistani community.

Apna Bazaar is the best store, very honest service and very reasonable prices. I bought a bag of rice and lady at the cash register mistakenly charged $2 less than the original price, but she said it is my mistake don't you worry about $2...my friends and I are very happy with apna bazaar and as long as we are in beaverton/portland ishallah we will shop at Apna Bazaar.

Owner Srinivas is kind and gentle guy, very helpful to the indian pakistani community. I will request all the pakistani families shop at apna bazaar, it is very easy to write a negative review bcz of jealousy and other motives... lets come and support the best indian grocery store in the northwest "Apna Bazaar"... keep it up Srinivas... Good and Great. 100 characters is good amount of talking. Any how I find the reviews very living and enervating. If you can cook good food you don't require good stuffs. Spices never expire as medicenes do. They loose the aroma, and can be got back with a rigorous pounding in a pounder as our mothers do. Please check how a mortar and pounder works. Hello, I stayed in Portland for 3 year, and found the Apana Bazar with good variety, with sluggish service. Although there are some items where you don't get anywhere but here, hence you have to trade off while buying

I moved to portland 3 years back , after searcing all the Indian shops i found out Apna Bazzar to be the best shop in terms of varites , freshness of stock ,revolving the stock etc.. As few people mentioned billing is an issue when they have people waiting in the line specifically Seems like in a hurry they get confused. This i told the owner and he seems to be taken care of it . I have seen abuse language been used by the persons who are writing reviews which clearly shows their character and nature . Few comments seems as competitors are wantedly drafting the comments to show a bad image to poeple. So do go and visit them and all other shop also have your own opinion before have a concrete idea of where to shop in Portland .

Dear Owner,
I have been searching along time for an indian store with the products and food I m looking for. I very much love the indian culture. I have been to alot of India stores in Oregon but have not found the right one. we have been going there for almost 3 years; we have had great service all along. The only thing I would expect to change is the cashiers need to be little more friendly( all I get is some expressionless face ; the bespectacled guy is getting better to be friendly) ..............

The billing problem comes again and again - I have seen it twice this month and the claim is "sorry - it was a mistake"...................Srini - Either you do the billing yourself for a month and lead your employees by example (or) shift your cashiers to do "shelving" ; (OR) the item is "on the house/cashier" for that mistake.. This has been going on for 2 years ; You need to get your act straight here - otherwise, complaints can be escalated to the State............

I think the prices are a little higher here - but the store is well kept and maintained ; Chandru - It may make sense if you can show price comparison against local stores.. Otherwise, your comments are just B&M.. If pricing is better in CA or India, move and live there or start a shop locally and compete.

We got four instant mix bottles, in one of the bottles the price was marked as $2.29 and the rest was $2.99. She was so lazy to scan all the 4 bottles, she just wanted to scan one and multiply by 4. She used the higher price for billing the item. Even though we told her one of the bottle was marked as 2.29, she didn't bother to listen to us. Above this all, she also tried to bill the same item (samosa) twice. I think the person who billed me was Banitha. But, being responsible in this kind of job is very important. I don't think your employees have that responsibility. PS to the owner: Instead of replying to the reviews, work on managing your employees to improve the customer service.

hello everybody , my name is srinivas , owner of Apna bazaar . I would like to thank Nikki , Priya , Renee and Uma for letting me know the problems in my shop by employees . For sure i would take care of it . At the same time i would like to keep in few words , Five years back when i started the shop i kept all my effort to do the itemized billing , the main reason of trying to this type of billing is for the customers to know and see what they have purchased , if it all if i have an intention of cheating customers why will i have customised billing , i could have gone with old type of billing . We have no intentions to cheat customers neither my employees have it because my employees will not get anything by charging more from a customer as everything is computerised and all my sales figures are shown to revenue departments . I understand that there might be mistakes but for sure it is not done wantedly , i would surely ask my employees to concentrate more while billing . Secondly there would be no reason for my employees to laugh at anybody it is a misunderstanding ,they might have been talking with other colleague . I am extremely sorry for this misunderstanding . We have more than 6000 items in the shop , it is sometimes very difficult to check for the expired stock , if we find any or if customers find any we take care of it . For sure we are not trying to give excuses we are trying to do our best . We are not so big to employee more people to work as Safeway or Hagen's . Any questions you can directly meet me in the shop i shall assure that i will take care of it . Thank you .

Recently read the review on mischarges so observed the billing carefully last time i went, and sure enough, they over-charged the pickle by $2 more than list price, charged $3 for one small chinese eggplant - I questioned the guy at the counter asking if the prices were correct - and sure enough, he said oh he had made a mistake. The issue is he would not have unless I had pointed out. I could also tell by the expression on his face when I caught his mischarges that he was very aware of the fact that he was mis-charging. He made a mistake in charges on 2 out of the 3 items I had purchased. I dont have the energy to keep checking whether the prices I am charged are correct. So Srinivas - sorry to say, I am taking my business elsewhere !!! And will make sure I pass the word around unless your cashiers get their act together.

Even i had bad experience with billing.There used to be one fair lady,she was nice and never made mistake.The fat one makes mistake all the time. The other day we got paneer. That lady entered it once(4.something $) n then after another item entered it again(6.something $). Immediatley i noticed it and told my husband.We were so pissed off...but then..we had no other go..we have to buy groceries from him in future ,so we just kept quiet.Apna Bazar management has to see to it. I agree that they have so many varieties and that is a gud thing abt it...but then cheating ppl like this will take them no where in life. My husband always cross checks the items and the bill everytime we go.
Kindly cross chk the bill with ur items without fail. Y loose even a penny which so difficult to earn these days.

Do something.Kindly chk wit ur employees. Kindly don give excuses abt the mexican guy who keeps the stocks and is unaware of the expiry date. Pl,u know very well...wat will be the consequences of eating expired stuff!!!

Well, I just returned from my first and last shopping experience at Apna. I think this place is better called Ap-not! I am making a chaat masala and was unfamiliar with an ingredient. I asked the woman at the counter and she waived me away saying they did not have that. Fair enough, however no sooner had I literally turned around than she started making fun of me with the other two male employees at the counter. I was 12 inches away from them!!! This continuued for at least 6-7 minutes. I could hear them in the back of the store they were so loud. I found this unbelievably insulting and an incredibly poor representation of the community.

Next, my friend told me they had good samosas so we went to the station to get some. A male employee grabbed the tongs out of his hand so he could put a samosa on his own plate and then gave it back.???????????

How do these people stay in business? They have the absolutely the crappiest service I have experienced in a long time. They are absolutely the trash of the Indian community. I definitely got the feeling they didn't have any respect for anybody in there store nor the customers they were alienating.

Avoid if you have other choices. I prefer "India Connect" that is nearby. It has less variety, but good for all basic items.

After going through the issue i understand that this is not wantedly made mistakes and most of the mistakes happen when there is a rush as my employees try to hurry up the billing for faster service . We would also try to eliminate this issue , any suggestions are most welcome .

We guys live in Vancouver and we go to Apna Bazaar in 2-3 months as we don't get all the things in Vancouver. They have a organised and neat place. But I guess Billing the items is a problem with them, its like every alternate time I have found mistakes in the bill. Most of the times the items are priced twice, and even the things on sale are priced with the original price (not the sale price). I would recommend everybody to cross check their bills after purchasing their groceries, as of now even I will have to make this habbit. I am fed up of asking them to correct the bill ...It suck's when you come home and find yourselves charged double or with the wrong price. It's not a one time thing....seems like it's their habbit now. It's really frustrating....They should train their staff and themselves how to make bills and check the items. Its not only their staff even the owner lady who is there on the counter makes these mistakes....

We guys live in Vancouver and we go to Apna Bazaar in 2-3 months as we don't get all the things in Vancouver. They have a organised and neat place. But I guess Billing the items is a problem with them, its like every alternate time I have found mistakes in the bill. Most of the times the items are priced twice, and even the things on sale are priced with the original price (not the sale price). I name Srinivas Owner of Apna Bazaar. I was going through the reviews i felt it is my responsibility to reply for the issues . First of all sorry if there was any inconvience due to shooping in Apna bazaar .
I would apolize srisiha , Veeramuthu Bikky and Srilatha for the inconvience casued by us.
When it comes to billing i had attended the issue , it is only a mistake it is not wanted done .My employees stand for eight hours attending the phones also they try there best not to make mistakes while they are billing . I also requested them to make the billing fast so that next customer can be served faster. We have intrduced itemised billing in portland to solve any mistakes done by us .
When it comes to customer Service we try our best .
When it comes to expries stock . we never try to make money on expired stock . As we have Mexicans doing the shelving they are not aware of dates , we try our best to take out expired stock or any customer complaints then look into the matter immediately .We want everybody to be healthy .
Incorrect weight , i have never got this problem . 99 % of stock comes pre-packed we don't pack .secondly our weighing machines are checked by Government every year for which we are charged .

Infact they give itemised billing , if they want to cheat there is no need to give itemised billing . We need to keep ourselves in there shoes before getting into a decision . I would also like to know which shop does the better service with fresh stock and better ambience .Better Service along wth the Products makes lot of difference . I was in Chicago , California and seatle , i have never seen a shop so organised , neat and fresh stock . Infact after Apnabaazar had come into market lots of shops have renowwed there shops for a better ambience.

I completely agree with the previous comments. This is the place I have ever seen that has the least concern for the customer. I was given a wrong bill and I had to go all the way back to get it corrected. This is disgusting. I think these guys are too over confident.

I agree with the ealier reviews. Once they made mistakes in my bill.
I think customers should read their bills after purchase. And also they don't care about customers complaints. Once, I was reporting adulteration in saffron but they never cared about it. I thought of reporting it to oregon FDA.

It does have more stuffs then other stores but they do not care about expire date stuffs. they even sell expire dairy stuffs, which are used for kids. i know they are expensive, i don't care much about it as they have more stuffs then other Indian stores, they think they are the best as many people go to apana bazar, but the truth is there is no competitor to apna bazar and in fact there isn't any good indian grocery store in oregon till date. I am sure something like Patel Brothers will soon be in Portland with reasonable price.

Apna Bazaar is one of the best stores in the whole of Oregon ...it has great variety of stuff ...it carries a wide range of indian (asian) vegetables ,spices and other groceries...it is well known for the quality of the stuff they carry....it is not a very old store and it yet has many things which they don't carry ...but i guess it is only the start to their store and will improve in the variety of stuff it carries soon...it always seems to have the freshest quality of food and you will never complain about anything that you buy from the store....The owners of this store are also very good and helpful...It is a must try for all you guys out there who love the Indian Taste!!! And those who have not tired indian food before be sure to fall in love it with !!!!!
