The manager at the Sunset location is hot tempered with the customers because he raised his voice at me when I complained. But its a fact that once all my tables dishes were placed down, we ate everthing seemed like it was going well in

I had my 20th birthday dinner at Sushi Dan and was quite pleased. I made advance reservations and they accomodated around 15 of my friends at no extra service charge. The service provided was great and the food was good too. The Danny roll is very popular and the tempura also tasted great. The tempura ice cream was delicious! I also spotted Johnny Knoxville at the bar ;)

The service is slow. It takes 30 minutes for your lunch to be brought to your table. I've tried to have lunch here 3 times now and the service is always the same, slow and bad. The green tea ice cream tastes like soap. I had a hair in my tuna sushi. I don't recommend it. Zero stars.

Went into sushi dan a few nights ago and I had the WORST experience in my restaurant history. I guess I should have spotted the rating which was a (B) because that could have saved me. I walked in with my friends and there wasn't a host in sight to seat us. More people started to come in and they said they usually just seat themselves?? So, we found a spot in the restaurant and took a seat. Ten minutes later, some gentleman asked if we have been helped then told us he would go get our server. Time went by and it wasn't until I went up to a young lady to find our server, someone came over. We ordered our drinks which took +10 minutes to get .The server gave us some time (since it was our first time at sushi dan) to look over the menu. I had a few questions so I tried to have a small conversation with my server about some of his favorite rolls and it was like i was talking to a machine. He smirked at me, said there all good rolls, then sprinted away. I guess I would have understood (being a server myself) if he explained one of his favorites and said he would explain some other rolls when he would return, but NO. I know it can get busy in a restaurant like this but I felt like I was an incovience for the server. When I go out to dine with my friends I dont want to feel like an incovienvce for the restaurant to serve me. I want to feel like the guest that I am. I'm usually pretty good at not complaining but when its this BAD, someone had to say something. I asked for the manager at the end of our meal, but the young man who went to go get the manager, said he wasnt around?! Was he lying to me? Or does sushi dan even have someone in charge? By our experience there, and Im sure many others who have had the same experience wont go back to sushi dan ever again. So if you like to be ignored and if you have an issue with your food or service expect your problem to be unsolved and walk out with one of the WORST experiences of going out to dinner with your friends.

Went there once late last year 2007, and it was not bad, went back tonight, and it WAS bad! Horrible sushi, fishy tasting crab meat, and then completely tasteless shrimp tempura: tasted like they bought the shrimp tempura at Costco and deep fried them. NO FLAVOR! Lobster roll, NO FLAVOR! It was bad. I told the waiter that the food was lifeless, without flavor, and didn't taste like anything. He shrugged his shoulders. Typical minimum wage mentality. No more Sushi Dan for us. There are better sushi places around than Sushi Darn.

This place is a small chain throughout LA and it is okay sushi, but pretty much the same quality sushi you can get everywhere else. It is a trendy scene to grab sushi and can accommodate large parties which is rare for lots of sushi houses, but it can get pricey VERY quickly and the sushi isn't that amazing. Also, be sure to check your bill and your credit card statement later on as well. Two of my friends have been overcharged by this place and then gave them attitude when they called Sushi Dan's to fix the charge.

Overall, a fun, trendy sushi place to take your friends but not the most authentic.

Good bye Sushi Dan. A group us from 16 to 20 people have been going to Sushi Dan for about a year now and last week we?ve decided that we won?t go back to Sushi Dan ever again. We?ve been going there and spent hundred of dollars on birthday parties...yeas? hundreds of $$$ because we drink like a fish. But last week, a group of us went there for birthday party and guess what?? Food came out slow, servers were rude and addition to that drinks were terrible.. I mean TERRIBLE. Who would want to sit and drink warm Martinis? A.M.F taste nothing like A.M.F. Sorry to say that both the quality of food and drinks went down hills. This is not the first time it has happened to us. Not worth going back.
Also be careful about the tipping. Severs will make you pay double the gratuity if you don?t pay attention to it. Last time I paid with my CC and sever didn?t show me the breakdown until I asked for it. What a place.

Not a bad place to have a drink, they were decent.
But for the food go somewhere else. Sushi was not over priced about $12 a roll, but i spent the night heaving in my toilet that was not what i was looking for, all i had was tuna sashimi and a spicy tuna roll, nothing too exotic.

the real thing that got me is we were a party of 2 and our bill came to $85, not cheep but still not the most expensive that i had seen. i paid by CC and when the check came to sign they did not have the itemized bill, they kept that. i like to just double the tax for tip, lazy what can i say. but then i asked for it and 5 min later they brought it back out. low and behold they had automatically added an 18% gratuity. i thought that i was being generous with my 15% with the service that was being served at a glacial pace.

All and all had i not asked for the itemized bill i would have tipped them another 15%.
CHECK YOUR BILL if you dine here.

Sushi Dan is the best for the price...or for any price in my opinion, although it differes in the style of restaurant and food from say, Koi. Rolls are huge and fresh. Sushi and sashimi are excellent quality. Go to the one on ventura if you want a more low key vibe. Great place to kick back a huge amount of saki.

I'm not typically into sushi (Midwesterner still adopting this Cali favorite) but this place was pretty good. My friend ordered the items including Tuna, Spicy Tuna, California Roll, and Whitefish -- the Spicy Tuna was great, the rest were good/average. The Whitefish was a little hot. Overall though, a good meal and attentive service with regular drink refill stop-bys. Only when it came to bill time did the waiter seem to disappear, but that might have been cuz we were in active conversation.

The atmosphere is great for a Tuesday night. Quiet, with well-spaced patrons.

Overall, I'd recommend.

I went here the first time for my dad's birthday... their specialty plates and sashimi were excellent. Our whole family are sushi fanatics and haven't found a place this great in a long time. However, I've gotta say that the service was horrible. I can't fault the restaurant for this because I'm sure it's only this one waiter. One would think that if the waiter didn't speak english too well he wouldn't mind repeating the order. But No. He seemed annoyed. When he did repeat it, of course he got it wrong. Then when the food came out, he still got it wrong! There must have been some mix up with a different table because he kept bringing the wrong stuff. Of course there was no apology! At one point he came to our table with a glass of wine and couldn't get it through his head that no one had ordered it. At the end of the meal we were still quite satisfied however felt that the waiter did not deserve a good tip... but of course there was already a 18% charge. Now thats about a $50 tip for incompetence!!! I only hope that others have complained and something will be done about that guy.... EXCELLENT FOOD THOUGH!!

I normally don't leave bad reviews even when I don't like the restaurant.....I actully like sushi dan.....my boyfriend and I make it a point to go about once a month. But after the last visit we may never go again....the food was good as always, but the service was horrible....we went on a sunday (first time going on sunday), arrived around 10:00 and sat at the sushi bar as usual.....ordered slowly as usual, and at 10:50 we place another order and was told that kitchen closes at 11:00, so we ordered like 4 more sashimi items....at 11:10 they brought the check and we were pretty much kicked out. Our tab was $160.00 (which is avg. check for us there) and we left food behind because we were very annoyed.....sorry, but our days at the dan is done......too bad...i really like your food...

I love trying out different sushi restraunts, and I tend to think the price should reflect the taste and quality. However, I have not found a sushi spot that can beat The Dan. Just good food.

I love this restaurant.

We usually make it our business-lunch destination whenever possible. I am telling you, we have been known to go 3 times in one week.

And yet i still find myself going on the weekends.

The food is good, i mean, GREAT. The service is prompt and attentive. Try the 911 roll, or the Hot Night roll II (with jalapenos).

Now if you are one of the pompous reviewers above, that feel uncomfortable recommending a restaurant that is too trendy for fear of not appearing chic enough... I recommend you visit their Studio City location. It is smaller and more "intimate". The food is equally good.

I used drive to the Studio City location because it's so good and this one is just as good, in-fact I like the space more. Those other bad reviewer must work for the competitors. The place is nice, the staff is always nice and the sushi's great. Sushi's one of my favorite foods, and this place is really good and I highly recommend it.

Their wosabi is diluted, and when asked if they had the raw stuff, they didn't. Their Miso soup is too salty, and the quality of their rolls was horrible, and the taste was blande. Overall, if you'd like a bad sushi experience, go here.

Went into this restaurant after a movie in the same complex, and as soon as we walked in did not feel it was going to be great, but stayed just cuz my partner wanted to try, we were very disapointed, the fish is pre-cut and when they served it, has a strong smell, another dish we tried it was way too oily it overpowered the lightness of the fish.

We did not have a pleasant dinner experience here. the newness of the place showed. the wait staff was awkward and inconsistent. at first the waiters were overly enthusiastic, hounding us to order when we'd only had 2 minutes to peruse the very large menu. then, later in the dinner, it was as if we had no waiter at all. Mind you, it was NOT a busy time there. It was almost empty, and still we barely saw our waiter after the first 10 minutes.

Food was okay, nothing to write home about. Crazy Dan roll was the best thing we had. Philadelphia roll was weak, too much cream cheese. The side salad we ordered had limp, freezerburned lettuce. u know the kind, when it's transparent? Yuck.

They really need to work out the kinks in this place or it's gonna fail just like Wolfgang Puck did. Very disappointing.
