If I lived on the border of Texas and Mexico, I'd probably be snobbier and less enthusiastic about this place, but I grew up in Michigan so F it! They are open later than I would ever even need Del Taco and that includes the bar. Huge tequila menu and wonderful fresh squeezed margs.

Walk in and immediately you smell the sweet earthy smoke of their famous fresh made tortillas. Salsa on the table and the fresh fried chips are like nothing you've ever had, even though you've been to a hundred Mex places before. Trust me!

Every dish on the menu is Tex-Mex heaven. I've been there a hundred times so I speak with authority. Interesting items like Jicima Salad, Black Bean Empanadas and fresh Sopes make this my favorite unassuming Mexican restaurant.

I've been coming to La Cabana for 30 years now and it is still one of my favs. The back patio is where it's at. Start off with a Cadillac Margarita then order away, everything is delish. If you want a hearty meal that you will have to get a doggie bag for...order the Chile Colorado. If you wanna go light, try a taco or enchilada a la carte.La Cabana is always a winning choice!

I have tried this place several times and have been disappointed in my food each time, with a new menu item tried each time. Really mediocre food.

They do have a large selection of tequilas and if you just want to go out for margaritas this place isn't a bad choice.

I ordered a combination plate, for delivery. I said no cheese, it had cheese. I said flour tortillas, they gave me corn. The beans were cold, the rice was dry, the tamal, though not greasy, was loaded with fat and discolored, and had no sauce over it. The tortillas were cold, hard and chewey, and the chips rubbery.
I expect better than this, after paying $18 with the tip.
The only pro was that the delivery man was personable and nice looking.
I will not order delivery from them again, and I don't recommend them. Dan

We made the mistake of going twice with family and couldn't back out! This place has the worst Mexican food EVER!! No cilantro in anything, the guacamole has like mayonnaise and other unfamiliar seasonings or chemicals added. It made me desperately wish for Taco Bell. It was very crowded and especially noisy with super bad guitar playing in background. Just awful and worst of all, I knew it!! You can somewhat judge a place by their chips and salsa. Did I mention the COLD stale chips?? Margaritas taste like old bottled syrup stuff. I don't get why this place is popular??? Oh... Venice that's why!!! I'LL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN!

For a business that has been around for so long, I don't understand why.

Ordered what should be one of the tastiest diners, the carnitas plate. It was a complete mis-mash of pork pieces. A few soft pieces mixed in with fatty ones, the chewey pieces tasted like something gridded and scrapped of the grill. (Uck!)

Have never had such terrible mixture of meat. And with extra thick, (1/4'') pancake corn tortilla's, found they were way too filling!

What kind of Gringo do they think I am?
This one is defiantly off my list!

I was taken here on a date and was pleasantly surprised. The place does not look so pretty from the outside, but once you walk in you get warmly greeted by the ladies at the door. We went on a Tuesday night and it seemed pretty crowded like it was the weekend. We got seated right away in a very big roomy booth. The place has a very cozy ambience and has a lot of Mexican charm. The servers are very professional and attentive. I was said to hear that they only served Fajitas during the weekend. I rarely get to go to a Mexican restaurant, and so having Fajitas would have been such a big treat for me. That is something they should think about serving ALL the time. My margarita was okay, nothing too great. Honestly got the worst headache the next morning but that may have to do with the fact that I do not drink often. However, I have tasted way better margaritas elsewhere. They do have a really nice menu with very authentic Mexican dishes like enchiladas, ceviche, albondigas, burritos, and quesadillas. I went with the El Verde burrito with chicken. When I got my dish it was huge and it came with a lot of rice which I love. It was strange how it came with fresh tomatoes inside the burrito, but hence you can tell it was freshly made. I ate only half of my burrito and took the rest home. Filled me up quick. Oh and you can see the lovely Senora making fresh tortillas within view from where we were sitting. That was very cool. Our food was served right away. I would definitely come here again, but it would be on a weekend so I can try out their Fajitas!!!!

Great food. I got the cheese enchilada combo and the enchiladas were amazing. Their salsa and chips are great too. I liked it because it wasn't heavy, sometimes Mexican restaurants make their food too heavy, too cheesy, greasy, etc. but La Cabana doesn't. Their food is awesome and does not leave you feeling bloated. I ate the whole plate and I'm a tiny person and didn't feel full. It was great. Cool atmosphere too, and fun singers!

Good mexican food and great entertainment on the weekends. We have gone with large parties and they usually accomodate us quickly. The food is tasty and inexpensive. They are open late and the locals are always around. The Duet singers swoon you with love ballads and it is a romantic little place. Great Margaritas!

La Cabana has some of the best authentic Mexican food on the Westside. I've been going there for years and have never been disappointed in the menu. The service is good and I feel the prices are reasonable. It can get incredibly busy, so I avoid the restaurant during peak hours. La Cabana is open late! When I get late night cravings I just phone in for pick-up.

My favorite dishes are the fish tacos and the camarones al mojo de ajo. I also love their tortilla soup -- it's just like my grandmother's. They make theirs with broth and veggies rather than tomato-based. They also serve tasty homemade tortillas with every meal, which you can watch them make in full view.

This place is overated given the poor quality of food it serves. I did have 'La Cabana Blue' premium margarita & it was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. Still, the decent drink plus the semi-bad food is definitely a not-going-back.

I love spicy & on a scale of 1 to 10 (hottest edible) I can only do 7 without major suffering. The complimentary hot spicy salsa that comes w/the semi-saturated of oil, crunchy, shiny, yummy & not-artery-friendly corn chips falls on a 2.5.

Service was decent b/c it was quick & to the point; the wait staff wasn't there to make friends w/us or to know how our day was going, which is fine w/me. They do claim that they've employees that have been there for the last 20-30 yrs. If I had to serve people at the same place for the last 2-3 decades of my life, I sure wouldn't care how anyone else's life was going either. Still, I was happy as long as my food got there exactly how I asked for it.

We ordered 2 entree & a desert that came out pretty quick. They're big in quantity but not in quality. 1. Beef & chicken sopes - not good. The big problem was they came w/shredded meat. Shredded meat is usually cooked in sorta watery sauce & in this case it soaked up my corn sopes tortilla, which is a big no. I like my sopes tortilla dry & crispy on the outside while moist & warm on the inside. I also prefer grilled juicy meat for filler so no liquid drips all over making the sopes tortilla soggy. King's Tacos has way better sopes. I just dread them for making me sick every other time I have them. Yes, I still keep going back... 2. Chiles rellenos - they were just ok & the only complain I've is they were made w/bell peppers. Before yesterday I never knew chile rellenos were made w/bell peppers. And overall the flavoring of their food was too mild & not that great. 3. Flan - was good but nothing out of the ordinary. I prefer my flan dense & more flavorful, and well this flan was definitely lacking...

Any place that makes handmade tortillas is ok with me. I was a little disapointed with my margarita though. Tequila selection is a little weak. I find it wonderful that they are open so late!!! what a nice service to the community! My relleno was decent. Just keep those tortillas coming!!!

Okay... where do I start with my favorites? Seafood enchiladas are my usual, and never disappoint. When I bring guests I brag about the margueritas and the Quesadilla "creations" which you can find no where else. My guests are never disappointed and assume the potency of their Marguerita was a fluke, until they order the second, and its just as strong.
Environment (should I say ambience?) , Inside and out side are two different worlds (both make you forget you're on the corner of "Rose and lincoln"). The art work is bold and intriguing. Tortillas, I wonder if watching them being made makes them taste so much better? I have to yell "Tortilla soup"! Okay, I'm done. Wait... Mariachis too - you know they were on the ROOF playing for Cinco de Mayo. I love la Cabana.

I do not know charmgrl nor due I judge people. I feel compelled to state a fact: LaCabana does not have fajitas on thier menu. Another fact, across from the reception desk is a plaque that lists the number of years waiters and their family members have served at LaCabana. Some of these gentlemen have worked at LaCabana b/t 20-30 years if not longer. The El Verde burrito with fish (I request the fish taco sauce on the side) is a huge slice of heaven. Dare I say I would give my left arm and maybe leg for a plate of Pechugas de Angel. I have lived in Venice for 9 years and made a decision many moons ago to replace my drinking water with LaCabana's house margaritas because they are simply said...DELICIOUS.

La Cabana has so much character and ambiance, it is one of our favorite places to visit on any night of the week. We enjoy the margaritas (my favorite is the "La Cabana Blue") and the appetizers on the patio (the empanadas and shrimp and spinach quesadilla-yummy!). What gives the restaurant so much character is the decor, the staff, and the mariachis. It transports you to Mexico the moment you walk through its doors! Lots of fun!

This place went from bad to worse quickly. The service was horrible and our waiter had long dirty fingernails. In fact, the whole place was dirty, the chips tasted like stale fritos and the food had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for the entire 30 minutes that we had waited for it. I usually love small, unique restaurants off the beaten path, but I could not find one good thing about this place. Do yourself a favor, listen to the bad reviews and stay away from this place -you're better off at Taco Bell. . .

i had heard mixed reviews so i decided to try it out when i was feeling like some mexican. ICK! even if she hadn't mentioned it, it was pretty obvious that neither my friend or i would ever return to la cabana. the menu is unorganized & so hard to read and as i read in a previous review, nothing on it is very enticing. it was very hard to order something that included everthing or anything that i usually look forward to when dining mexican.
first, they don't have black beans. however, when i saw that the empanadas had black beans i asked "oh, don't the empanadas have blk beans?" our server had no shame in confessing that they were pre-made. i clarified, "so they are frozen and reheated?" and the answer was yes. how do they get off charger $7 for something thats thrown in the microwave?!!!
secondly, they only have pork tamales that are dry and disgusting.
thirdly, they couldn't be shadier with the guac...it doesn't come with any entrees and is barely present is anything else! marketprice? come on, its guacamole not fresh toro!
thirdly, i cant believe they won "best margarita in LA". way too watery.
overall i'd say pass & go to el cholo, its delicious and way more reasonably priced.
oh yeah, the beans are totally crusty like mentioned in another review...another sign of reheating.

oh yeah, the beans are totally crusty like mentioned in another review...another sign of reheating.

Pros: authentic mexican interior and nothing else

Cons: FOOD, SERVICE, VALUE. plus with the check they gave us two smashed lollipops! thanks a lot.

.

The homemade tortillas are basically the only thing worth coming back for. The food and ritas are qutie average. If stuck in Venice and close to La Cabana would be the only time I would come back.

The margarita's at La Cabana are amazing, a great way to end a busy work work for sure. The food is really really good as well. The atmosphere is friendly and you are sure to feel right at home with the staff who are ever friendly towards their patrons.

We had some sort of blue margarita (appropriate that i do not remember the name of it) but they were very yummy and they were blue. The food was good- cheesy, not authentic, but very tasty, and the staff was very accomadating. I would go back. We had good success parking in the Big Lots lot across the street.

La Cabana was a great little discovery. I've noticed it many times while driving down Lincoln and finally stopped in and was so happy I did. The food is great and the margs are even better. I definitely recommend!

they've got chimichangas here on fridays - come in the afternoons when it's not so packed. otherwise expect to wait on a weekend evening. fun place to bring out of towners though it may not be the mexican food they're used to eating.

I like this place a lot. It is small, and cozy and the food is excellent. Even better, it is open late and is a perfect option to eat on a weekend night. The ccombo plartes with the rice and beans are very good. Not to mention the strawberry margheritas.

We went here last night after much discussion about where to eat dinner. The food is delicious (especially the rice!) compared to most Mexican places. They have a list of one-of-a-kind quesadillas on the back of the menu, plus addictive margaritas! When we were there, there was a roaming Mariachi Band. It was very romantic and the prices were just right!

I went to this place last night late because my girlfriend gets off from work late and we were not only surprised that the place was open buy it was crowded and very festive at 1am! The food was great and the margaritas were awsome! I tried the Carne adobada and I recommend that dish. The chips and guac were good. My girlfriend had the tortilla soup and it was incredible!. This place is a great date spot... well at least it was for me! Start at the patio with margaritas, work your way to the booths :)

I've eaten here twice. I've never had to wait for a table. I think they have the worst chips and salsa, and it seems they try to nickle and dime you to death- charging extra for everything. The tortillas do taste good and homemade, but nothing on the menu ever jumps out at me as something I really want to eat. The dishes I have tried have been okay - not horrible, but not great. Service was okay, but not stellar as well. I prefer the margaritas at El Cholo. This restaurant is all right, but not my favorite.

If you are one of those people that celebrate holidays for the night life, then this is a great place to be! The Mariachi Band will serenade your table as you enjoy the tasty margaritas and authentic cuisine. The patio is a nice break from the crowded restaurant.

Stick to the simple menu items like burritos, enchiladas, nachos, chile relleno. They are good. THe "Specials" are not worth the price and are put together sloppily. Godd margarits. Good Service.

We have been coming to La Cabana now for over 2 years and every time we have gone it is GREAT! And the Margaritas?!!! they are da BOMB! Theyre not watered down and they got a good kick. I highly recommend the Chile Rellenos and the hand made tortillas - they are to die for! Go for the food, the Margs and the fun! Stay away if your looking to be pampered like a prima donna. Its causual and romantic and authentic. Try to get the patio seating its a blast and festive... if you can get a spot

when you order food to be delivered, watch out for the fine print. Unless you print up the menu online, you won't know about the $3 delivery charge, or that the tortillas (which I was craving and are hand made) are not included in your to go (delivery) order, only the pre-fab tortillas which are like cardboard. So, when we received our delivery order, which was cold, soggy and pretty much tasteless, we saw that our tortillas (which i believed to be hand made) were not with the order. I called the restaurant asked them please deliver them. They gave me attitude, and said "45 minutes to 1 hr). When the tortillas finally made it to our front door I was shocked to see that they were not "hand made". they were stiff, tasteless (like much of their food I've found out over the past 25 years) and a complete let down. Sorry La Cabana, I've never liked your food, and guess what, you remain on my list of the worlds rudest waiters and bad food. If you think I'm being to harsh, then call in your order for delivery, you'll see.
I should have gone to taco bell, at least when they are rude to you you haven't spent $30.

When I make plans to go to La Cabana, my mouth starts watering on the way, thinking of the great taste of that salted rim on my glass and the great drink that the bartender puts in front of me. I am a big fan of the Chef Specialty that they serve, it seems really popular, but you have got to try the "Original". Sometimes, one of those is just enough to get you going (it makes like 3 small glasses) and it is made for you right in front of you. As far as the food, well the salsa is great with their fresh warm chips that they keep filling up the basket with. My favorite is (and this is so hard to decide on just one) would have to be the combination that comes with the grilled chicken al carbon soft tacos, they are to die for. The staff are very professional and polite too. You have to get the feeling that the back outdoor patio gives you, its almost like everyone knows eachother. I've gone alone and seen old friends and made new friends there. Anyway, try the place out and I promise that you won't be sorry.

Pros: Ambience and Service

Cons: That they aren't open earlier in the morning and that they should have a dance floor built over the place.

I thought the food was mediocre. My cousins and I shared 2 orders of empanadas, Enchilada Del Mar, Barbacoa, and Veracruzano. Out of those dishes, the Barbacoa tasted the best. For dessert we had the Mango Flameados and it was heavenly delicious!! It is a must have!! I would go back just for that dessert!!

Don't be put off by La Cabana's kitschy Mexican decor because the food is quite good. Start with a quesadilla oozing with cheddar cheese, potatoes sauteed with fresh tomatoes, red onion and a piquant chili pasilla. Follow with the shrimp…
