.

I first went to Makai with a friend who was meeting an old friend there. Though I'd never heard of the place, the name did sound interesting.

Looking on the outside as well as the people, I quickly realized this was a Westside "Hollywoodesque" hotspot. The inside was actually very uniquely decorated which really impressed me. I guess they serve dinner here as well but I couldn't tell. They had an area in the back that had pillow like couches (yet not quite as big) that looked really comfy but they were taken up.

Average aged crowd I'd say ranged between mid 20s-mid 30s but there was definately some older folks in there as well. Hip looking bartenders and waitstaff.

Drink were made well but were on the pricier side for a small venue. But then again, it IS located on Ocean Boulevard so I guess they can use that to help spice up their appeal (and prices). Not sure what the dinner menu is like but it's a place that would be worth checking into.

We had a great time and the crowd definately helped enhance the scene. The only thing I'd really have to say is that I wish they'd had more places to sit. For a place that's not a dancing venue, seating is pretty important.
