They were great when they first opened. The food was wonderful and the staff was friendely. Now everything has changed.. Someone else is in charge. It appears that the Rock of the sea is now a party bar with no regard to their padrons.

After we arrived in Santa Cruz we were looking for a great place to have fish, whole fish-not just the fillets. We first went to the Wharf and were extremely let down with the choices, so I researched alittle online and found this place and boy are we glad that we did!!! We first had the Campechana which was filled to the rim with seafood, octopus, crab, shrimp, you name it. Then we had the whole fried Tilapia, which was the closest thing we have found to how we make it at home (Mexico). The dish also came with avocado, onions, as well as beans (they give you a choice of whole beans--which I loved b/c most places just give you refried beans) and of course tortillas. It was fantastic. Everything from the food to the wonderful lady that served us and didnt mind the mess my 1 year old made! We were so impressed we returned the next day for lunch. Who knows we might even go back today as well!!

Pros: food, service

Cons: nothing

This is my fave restaurant on the Westside. My boys and I go there for the great ceviche and the free appetizer Monday thru Thursday with any alcoholic drink. My son loves their carne asada and I always get a fish taco or two. Reasonable prices for a family or a casual date, this place is convenient and their breakfasts are actually excellent!

Pros: Great food, good drinks, nice atmosphere

Cons: Service is a little slow but we usually don't mind....

I almost don't want to write this because I don't want too many people to know about my favorite place or it will be too crowded! It is a big space though and the word has definitely gotten out since they first opened two years ago. I am very picky when it comes to both food and margaritas, and this place does both amazingly well. Authentic Mexican-owned and operated restaurant, interesting murals on the wall, but not the most romantic decor. The margaritas have fresh squeezed juice in them and are all too easy to slurp down. The salads are real greens not just iceburg and creatively arranged with beets, avocados and tangerines. The fish is done delcately the mango salsa mahi mahi is my favorite. Great shrimp fajitas too.
