Dobie Theatre

Dobie Theatre is a pretty decent theater. They show a decent amount of independent movie titles, as well as some others. They are a clean theater and prices are not as high as some theaters.

The Dobie Theater is located in the Dobie Mall, around the UT Austin campus area. They charge around $6-$8 per ticket, depending on the time of the movie. The have small, but cozy theaters, with unique detailing. The show many independant films, as well as cult classics, and show movies pretty much all night long.

As for theaters, this is very hard to get to as it is right off of UT's campus and the parking is awful. However, the lively Guadelupe Street Crowd makes it an interesting scene.

I've loved the Dobie theater ever since I came to Austin. They mainly show movies just a little out of the mainstream. Each screening room is whimsically decorated, adding an extra touch to a pleasant viewing experience.

PROS: Easy to reach by bus.
CONS: Not quite as friendly since bought out by Landmark.

Dobie offers movies that you will not encounter in normal chain theaters- some for better, some for worse. The theaters are okay, if small-- no frills really. The best thing about dobie theater is the concessions-- gourmet chocolate and coffee, and other strange but delicious treats. If you are looking for "war of the worlds" (tom cruise version) and peanut m&m's this is NOT the theater for you. Step outside the box though and give Dobie a try- you may be pleasantly surprised (if not by the movie, by the rittersport candy !)
