At lunchtime, business diners pack the small tables for the buffet and pita baked fresh in a brick oven. Service is mostly do-it-yourself, but staffers are polite and efficient. Aladdin Mediterranean Cuisine is horrible

by Mike T.

The sides were great, the flat-bread was fantastic, BUT the beef kebabs were inedible (I don't mind a little charring but this was like eating nasty ashes- a section of the meat I was able to actually crush to charcoal powder with my fingers). The attitude of the staff is horrible. (I very quietly told the waitress that there was a problem -as I hate making a scene- her response was to sigh and then vanish into the kitchen not to return.)Before I left in disgust, I overheard several other customers complaining, which including the statement "...but this place used to be so good!" .My advice- go elsewhere.

Decent portions

by Madnira S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,001

To be honest, perhaps it can simply be attributed to my larger appetite, however I was a bit dissatisfied with the portions at this restaurant, but the prices somewhat compensate.

finally... comfort food that's GOOD 4 u !

by LIv2Eat

I am pregnant... So I am eating 4 two all the time. My husband decides to take me 4 something different one weekend and it was Aladdin. It was like the best food we had ever eaten. The Shawarma was like the Middle Eastern version of the juiciest hamburger. Everything is in your face to choose from so u don't have to read any annoying menus. The portions are very generous. Everything always looks so fresh, and tastes like it, which is the most important part. My doctor is really happy with my diet and it is all thanks to Aladdin. Love it... Seriously, i have been eating there non-stop for ever now :)

Pros: healthy, delicious and affordable

Cons: they aren't 24 hrs :)

Service is absolutely horrible!!!

by foodie832

Food is overrated and service is bad. The owner has a very rude attitude like he's doing you a favor by serving you. The other day my friends and I went there for lunch. When they employee gave us more food then he was "supposed to" give us, the owner says to us "look, this time I'm giving you extra food, next time I won't." If his employee is the one serving the food, he should talk to the employee about the portion sizes they serve to customers. I don't want to be treated like I'm begging for food. That is the last time I'm ever going to the place ever again!!!!!!

"Wow, My New Favorite Place to Eat!!!!!!!!!!"

by landa06

Healthy bold colors revealed an extensive food display that dazzled my eyes and heightened my appetite. I was pleased to observe ample portions of food given by courteous servers. At first bite, an explosion of mouth watering flavors awakened my senses! Surprised and delighted, I relaxed to savor this delectable meal....... BRAVO!!!!!!! My daughter asked me where i wanted to go for Mother's Day, "Aladdin's!" I replied with a hungry smile. PS. My bet is that the Chef at Aladdin is really the Genie in the Bottle!!!!!!!!!

Pros: Food Quality, Flavor, Cleanliness

Cons: NONE

Awesome middle eastern food!!!!!!!!

by euro1

Awesome, that's it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And 4 u idiots out there that try to compare Aladdins to Nikos Nikos ur an idiot!
Though both restaurant owners are fat....kind of funny......that they both are.
Nikos Nikos is Greek fast food and NOT at all authentic except for the NAMES of the dishes served....and Aladdins is authentic Middle eastern food.....so please don't try to compare the two.
You want Authentic made to order Middle eastern food go to Aladdins and if you want Greek Fast Food go to Nikos Nikos.

Pros: everything

Cons: None

Delicious, cheap food, and great service

by luli_brooks

I've eaten here a million times and they have never disappointed. Great variety of foods, all of them delicious (do NOT miss the hot, fresh pita bread!), quick service, friendly to students or dates that might want to linger a while. Parking is around back, by the way (not immediately apparent when you drive by on Westheimer).

Did I mention dinner here is CHEAP? Best deal in town.

Pros: food, bargains, great study or casual date place

Cons: the porch is always loud -- eat inside

great food, big portions, good service

by htowncoog

It's mediterranean food at its best- no fuss, just pick your sides and your main dish and enjoy! The manager (or maybe he was the owner who knows) treated our little party great and even gave our birthday friend a gift.

Pros: Great Service, Great food, fast.

Cons: the parking area is a little on the scary side at night

HEALTHY AND DELICIOUS...!

by diffusername

THIS PLACE IS GREAT. THE PORTIONS ARE JUST RIGHT AND THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS. I LOVE THE FACT THE RESTAURANT LOOKS ALL SHACKY ON THE OUTSIDE BUT THEN YOU WALK IN AND IT IS HONESTLY BEAUTIFUL. THE DRAWINGS, THE CHANDELIERS, THE DOORS ARE JUST ALL VERY DISTINCT... YOU GET THAT TRUE ROYAL MEDITERRANEAN EXPERIENCE. AND LETS NOT FORGET THE PRIVATE ROOM... IT IS SO COZY AND ROMANTIC. MY FIANCE AND I TRY RESERVE IT ONCE A MONTH AND JUST ENJOY A PRIVATE, MEDITERRANEAN ROYALTY EXPERIENCE... IT IS REALLY BEAUTIFUL. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS IGNORE THE OLD, NEGATIVE COMMENTS BECAUSE THERE NOT TRUE NOW... ITS HEALTHY.... TASTY... CLEAN... AND A ENJOYABLE ENVIROMENT. OH YEAH, THE NEW MANAGEMENT IS SOME YOUNG HYPE GUY AND HE IS HILLARIOUS... WHEN YOU BECOME A REGULAR LIKE MY FIANCE AND I, 4-5 TIMES A WEEK, HE WILL START CHATING WITH YOU AND TRULY MAKE YOU LAUGH!

Pros: EVERYTHING!

Cons: IF ONLY THEY SERVED BREAKFAST.

Mediterranean Cafeteria

by coog78

The prices here are great and the food is always good. Pita bread, cauliflower, and the meat loaf are always good. I can't help but to find the review that gave a complete and detailed conversation outright hilarious. Given, the snap-snap of the neighborhood I'm not too surprised. This is a good spot to sit down, relax and enjoy food; nothing more nothing less. Like the Fadi's near the Galleria I enjoy this place.

Pros: food, location

Great Flavor Love the Tabouli and the Fresh Pita

by phayssonetruth1007

Friendly counter-help guide you through the choices of wonderful array of mediterranean fare, which changes daily. The featured dishes may change but never disappont. I have been many times over the last few months, and the food has not disappointed. I always feel satisifed with the food. Generous portions. I have gone and my date and I have shared a combination plate and both of us were full. I have tried Tabouli all over town and something about the lemon flavor in Aladdin's makes it the best tabouli I have ever had. I never thought bitter parsley could ever taste so good!

Cons: Bathroom door lock not function and bathroom a little dirty

Terrible and Confrontational service

by ketaylo3

Aladdin's was one of our favorite places to eat and I highly recommended it . NEVER AGAIN WILL WE VISIT ALADDINS. My BF and I went to Aladdins 8/5/06 and ordered 2 Lamb Kabob sandwich platters. We ate our salads and waited for our sandwichs.

After 20 minutes of waiting, I approached the counter and kindly asked if it would be much longer. The manager (dark hair/glasses) rudely informed me that I placed a gyro order and that's the problem so he'd have to change it. I politely told him we ordered the kabob and, had it been gyro, it still wouldn't have taken 20 minutes. He did not apologize but turned away.

We waited another 10 minutes and watched as he made our sandwiches. He came to our table and THREW down a plate with 1 sandwich cut in half and barked "you share this while I make the other sandwich". We were shocked, but starving, so we ate our halves in silence.

He returned with the other sandwich and my BF said, "it's customary to apologize when the customer has waited 30 minutes". He replied, "I didn't take your order". My BF said, "that's not our problem and you didn't apologize and it's not polite". The manager then laughed and attacked him stating "oh, you don't think I'm being polite? Sorry, there, does that make your day? Does that make you feel better?" I then piped up and said "I do not understand why you are acting this way, this is one of my favorite places and you have never been this rude". He said, "oh, I'm being rude? Well, I'm sorry". He turned from us, smiling as friends of his came through the door and walked away with them. We then ate half of our remaining shared sandwich when he walked to our table with our ticket and stated "your bill has been voided, our money", at this point waved his hand as if brushing it aside. We were insulted as we didn't want free food, just customer service and left Aladdins.

Pros: great food

Cons: horrible service

Great mediterranean food!

by docritic

I love Fadi's on Westheimer and was glad that the dinner at Aladdin's was essentially the same, just a really short wait on a Friday night! Compare that to Niko Niko where you're starving for 30-45 minutes!
The atmosphere is cozier and is decorated with large vases and interesting paintings on the wall. There's an intimate room that can probably be rsvped in the back.
I love the baba ghoonosh, freshly baked (actually rebaked) pita, falafel, and shish kabobs. Bring a friend!

Fadi's in the Montrose

by drkelly

For years I've had to drive to Meyerland to eat at Fadi's. Now it's in my own 'hood, as Aladdin. The owner is the same and the menu is nearly identical, with a few minor changes. I always get the same thing - the vegetarian platter. It's so huge, it's imposible to finish. To make vegans and vegetarians both happy, they have a platter for both (Fadi's did not on my last visit). It seems the prices are a little higher than what I remember at Fadi's, but those could have gone up as well. Parking isn't too bad during the day as the owner also owns the bar next door (Prive) and you can park in that lot.

Pros: vegetarian selection

Mediterranean Cafeteria-Style!

by genebp

Dollar for dollar, this is one of the best places you'll find in the Montrose area! The food is good, the service is fast, and the spread is lovely! This is a buffet that doesn't look like a buffet. Go in, check out the special of the day, grab a tray, get some bread and pick out your salad, meat and vegatable selection and drink. You won't be dissapointed. The only drawback is the location. Parking is hard to find, and will be harder to find as more and more people discover this place.

Pros: Inexpensive, Good Service, Great Food

Cons: Parking, Seating is Tight
