Katz's Deli is the most overrated food place I've ever been to, On a recent visit we were served dry tasteless french fries, a plate of pickles that appeared to have been left over from a previous diners table and there own house brand of bottled water no Poland Spring or Deer Park here. They also give every adult a ticket upon entering because theyuse a book keeping system out of the nineteenth century. They don't explain if you should misplace your ticket they expect you to pay a $50 fine to exit. I kid you not. One of our party left his ticket on the plate as all of our charges were totaled up on one ticket. Upon trying to exit it was insinuated that he was trying to steal and was sent back to his table to find the blank ticket. When he said this was rediculous and that they could ask the waiter if everything ordered was on the one check he was told it would cost him $50 to exit. They keep an uniformed security guard at the door to enforce this policy. He wandered back to our table and fortunately since they allow garbage and uneaten food to pile up our table had yet to be bussed and he was able to find his ticket. Of course when he turned it in he was greeted not with a "Gee sorry to put you through all the trouble but it's company policy" instead he was greeted with a hostile glare from the cashier. Do they get a cut of the $50 or are they just anti social misanthropes. Let's see mediocre food, bad service it took ten minutes for a waiter to appear, when we exited 2 waiters were enjoying a cigarette break out front and an annoying policy that allows employees to wrongly accuse customers of thievery. I can only guess this place gets good reviews in other places because people feel since they've been around for 100+ years it must be Okay. WHAT A HORROR SHOW.
