they had what i needed although the candy bags were bought in bulk and they bagged them themselves and were cheap old looking and yellowy. i can't find anywhere else to go so it's fine by me in that i need certain things they have sometimes. the stroller dilemma people need to know about cuz i was carrying a baby and trying to fill my arms with stuff and no one was helping AT ALL they were scorning me. this is the only reason i would not go here if i could. they do NOT ALLOW STROLLERS. yes they are rude, but mostly it was so stressful and hard to shop being baby-hated with no arms to hold anything.
I am surprised to see that the worst that can be said about this sales staff is "useless." I have been forced to go here due to time constraints because it is right next door to my office. However, every time, I promise myself I won't do so again. They have the worst, least helpful, rudest, nastiest sales staff of any retail establishment, in any industry, any where I've visited in NY.
I'm not petty, so gave this place a fair 2-star rating because they have a lot of stuff. But it's not 3-start (which is "Satisfactory"). In addition to the appalling service, they won't talk to you on the phone (you have to make a phone order of $50 or more via message), their web site is inadequate (and that would have been a fine alternative to the phone, if it worked), and they're advertising is deceptive--such as carrying a full line of Wilton cake pans. They didn't have either of the 2 character pans I wanted: 2 for 2 loss.
If you have any desire to bake you must see this shop. It's kind of dumpy looking and old fashioned when you enter but as you walk around you realize this store has it all. I mean all. Hundreds of different cookie molds. Dozens of cake molds and pans. All sorts of frostings and toppings. Hundreds of different figures to put on top of a cake. This place is just amazing. The saleshelp are pretty much useless and there is no doubt with a paint job, a little advertising and an attractive helpful staff they could double there prices and do five times the business they currently do. Let's hope they never catch on for who wants to pay twice as much and suffer in a crowded store.
PROS: Tremendous Inventory
CONS: Poor sales help
Ever watch that movie Steel Magnolias and wonder how did they make that Armadillo cake? Me neither but it's nice to know if I ever wanted to learn I could come to Cake Supplies. The store is huge and often packed. They have supplies for baking I didn't even know existed. If you ever have an urge to bake a cake in the shape of... well anything this is the store to go.
