I recently hired them to inspect a home I was purchasing. The home did have some defects and I was ok with what was found, so I bought the home. There was no running water when I purchased the home so plumbing could not be checked, I ended up having to replace all the plumbing. I was ok with that since it could not be checked without running water. But I was told the wiring looked good and was updated. Once I bought the home and started looking at updating the panel box (which was suggested by the inspector) I went into the attic to check things out. I had noticed not all the electrical outlets where working (inspector said they were). The wiring was all botched up in the attic and now I will need to replace all the wiring. This was something very open and plain to see since there was half of the insulation in the attic missing. I noticed and I am no professional. I asked for money back! They stated in the report it states to get a licensed electrician to inspect all electrical in the house, to get a licensed plumber to inspect the plumbing, to get a roofer to inspect the roof and to get a foundation expert to inspect the foundation! Wow so why am I hiring them for? So my advice to potential customers of this company is to not hire them but actually follow their own advice! Hire an electrician to inspect the electrical (cost me $100 for an hour of their time), had three plumbers come and look at my plumbing (cost me nothing for their time), Foundation contractors will look at work for free, and didn't get a roofer to come so don't know what they would cost. But I ended up spending an extra $100 just for the electrician, and I paid Jay Hicks Inspections $400 for a lousy job. If it was something that just could not be seen like the plumbing I would understand but Alen Harper knows he completely dropped the ball on this one. I thought they would have had a better moral compass knowing they dropped the ball after we discussed this and they would have at least returned my money ( that I could put towards replacing all the wiring in the house! And this was not the cheapest inspector so I thought I was doing good. BEWARE!!!!

Jay Hicks is a crook! He tried to charge us for a full inspection after he never came through with an inspection! He said it was available "online" but didn't tell us how to access until 10 days after our inspection period expired! I never saw the expired ghost inspection but he called harassing my realtor who viewed it and said it was full of errors since items he marked were "ok" or in working order weren't according to our official inspection. THe worst of it is he harassed our realtor and made threatening calls to us. I think he may have a mental disorder. I would never recommend him to come near you or your house! Beware is right! d

I'm not sure what happened with your inspection Veronica, but i have used Jays services on all six of my rental properties and he has never let me down. I will continue to use his services. I would recommend him to anyone in the Houston Area needing a house inspected. I have never found someone that is a kind and friendly as Jay.

Jay Hicks inspection service just did a great job for me. He was able to give me a great review on the home i now live in. He informed me early on about any trouble that might come up with the home, and for that I'm very thankful. I would recommend him to anyone that is looking for an inspector for their next home.

Great Inspection From Jay Hicks Inspection Service. i have had him inspect 4 of my properties and never had a problem. he found thing that would have never been seen. the builders where trying to cut corners on 1 of my new constructs and because of his finding the builder cut me a deal for there screw ups. the sad thing is that the city inspector had just left that morning

I thought I'd found a good deal...boy was I wrong! Mr. Hicks arrived and ws very friendly and chatty and seemed to be doing a thorough inspection. He sat down and went over it all with us after he was finished. In the first month after I moved into the house he'd inspected the trouble started. He said the water pipes in the attick looked fine. Since then it sprung a leak (due to corrosion) and had to have a sizeable section of pipe replaced, not to mention the other damage the break resulted in. He was terribly wrong about most of the information he gave me, including things that have or will require much greater sums of money than I can afford. Had he given accurate information I'd have thought twice before walking into a situation like this, or at least made sure I could afford the necessary repairs. Although he appears to be doing a good job when he's there this inspection service will leave you feeling robbed because the "good price" means nothing if the information is inaccurate.

PROS:
CONS: appears honest and trustworthy...a wolf in sheeps clothing!
