Today I tried a new hair salon for my 8 yr old. Kids Kuts had mixed reviews, but I made an appointment and tried it. We had a GREAT EXPERIENCE!

There's only 1 stylist - the owner - and she was friendly, flexible, and very competent. She's the first stylist in two years who actually cut my daughter's hair with the specific cut I requested (basic layered)... Supercuts always said yes, we'll cut in layers, and didn't. Just Kids in Burlingame, much more pricey, also said yes we'll cut in layers, and then just cut as they pleased. Today, Kids Kuts did as I asked... and charged me less than Supercuts! $15! amazing.

She was also patient with my daughter, who is autistic and often not able to cooperate with verbal requests. This did not phase the stylist in the least - she let me stand beside my daughter and assist as if this was the way all parents had to assist their kids. wow. and my daughter was intrigued by both the toys AND the fancy car seats (although she was too big for them to be comfortable, the stylist was fine with her scrunching herself into them). also the tv and video were very helpful.

I would highly recommend this salon to anyone.

The owner does just as good of a job as the next "Kid Stylist" (I've yet to find someone who just is "Fabulous"!), the salon is very kid-friendly, and it's easy to be a walk-in (if you have an appt., you still may have to wait if there are walk-ins coming in, since the owner is the only one to work here).

However, since the owner has no help, the hair on the floor is not swept up. And don't look inside the little cars the kids sit in while getting their cuts - you'll find lots of leftover hair. Makes me wonder if the toys or cars are ever cleaned. Kids will never notice though - so if it doesn't matter to you, no problem - I still go when I can't get an appointment elsewhere.

I can't review or comment on the haircuts this establishment gives, because we didn't get the opportunity to find out. I made an appointment for my daughter and we were very excited when we got there because the inside of the salon looked very cute and inviting. However, because weekday mornings are reserved for appointments the door was locked and the owner will show up only if she has an appointment scheduled. The mistake I made was that I didn't get a contact number in case I needed to change her appointment at the last minute or if she didn't show up. My daughter and I waited for 40 minutes outside of the salon until we gave up and went elsewhere. The owner finally called me at 1:00 when she came into the shop for walk-ins and apologized profusely, which I appreciated, but since I already took my daughter somewhere else, I didn't have a need for another appointment. I'm sure she gives really nice cuts and the place looks adorable, but make sure to get a contact number if making an appointment since life is less than predictable.

The cafe next to the salon, however is very inviting, adorable and has some really sweet patrons. I didn't get to try anything they served, but in the 40 minutes that we waited outside of the salon, we were offered more comfortable chairs, a cup of tea, a treat for my daughter and words of encouragement. I think I will go back just to experience the cafe...

This was our 2-year old son's first haircut experience. As you can imagine, he wasn't fond of the scissors. That being said, we were surprised that the barber didn't show much compassion or patience after we said that this was his first haircut; she even turned up the volume on TV as if to drown out his crying. She didn't care to take the time to talk with him or give him time to adjust to the situation. On the positive side, we thought the decor was kid-friendly. But, this was overshadowed by the fact that she charged us 4 or 5 times the price that a barber would charge. It is for these reasons that we don't recommend this salon.

As one of the reviewers has said, this is a hole in the wall kids salon. The play room is messy and cluttered. The owner/stylist, however, gives one heck of a hair cut. She has consistently done an awesome job on my kids and spends the time and energy to do it right. We love it.

This is not only a great place to get the kids hair cut, but also a great place for the kids to play while they wait! The haircut is quick and painless and with precision! A great place to take that toddler who fights the cut!

I do not agree with the preivous commenter in their comment about Kids Kuts and More. I feel Kids Kuts and More is really a nice salon for kids and I would take my kids there all the time - if only they really let me cut their hair more often. Unfortunately, they hate hair cuts and so we only go to Kids Kuts and More saldomly - but they do really good cuts and they are really nice with kids - patient and everything!

It's okay to admit you just can't bring yourself to take your kid to Supercuts. This is a hole in the wall salon that does have the requisite car barber chair and video sedation for the kids. There is a toy room for waiting siblings. They do have salon hair care products for sale, but the atmosphere doesn't rise to the level of Just Kids Cuts in Burlingame. That would be a good thing if the price wasn't at the level of Just Kids Cuts. It IS cheaper, but not enough to make it that desirable. To be fair, I haven't been to JKC in a while, so maybe the price has gone up and this is a bargain. But it is MUCH easier to get an appointment here than JKC, though it's right on El Camino, so sometimes parking can be dodgy.
