This place is spectacular. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to appreciate it. I plan to take them to California to see all the sites and this will definitely be on the list. My wife loves the butterfly exhibit because of the large variety. Most men would probably go for the safari and seeing the tigers and larger animals in the 'wild'. Great Place

If I'm in a zoo mood I would much rather go to the Wild Animal Park than downtown. It's spacious , beautiful and relaxing. I usually go a couple of times a year when I have friends visiting. One time we got 10 people together and took the photo safari. It was expensive but worth every penny. We got to pet and feed rhinos and giraffes. It was awesome. It's a pretty long ride from PB/La Jolla so plan on making a day of it. I really like it in the summer when they have late hours-- lots of animals come out at dusk-- you almost feel as if you are in Africa.

The Wild Animal Park was a lot of fun. It was pretty expensive but well worth it if you haven't been. We also paid for the safari ride which was well worth it. We felt that was all we really needed to see at the park. The driver was very nice and we got a lot of pictures. We also would sit and listen to music which was very nice.

I would recommend going the wild animal park at least once!

THis zoo is different then the others..in most zoo's you have to walk from exhibit to exhibit...Here you actually can ride through which makes it easier for families with kids..Had a great time and will go agaqin and agian, if given a chance...

This is a great place - you drive through it and at times the animals get a bit too close. When I was in college - we had a car full of screaming girls....

We spent a day at the wild animal park. This is where you can visit animals while riding in a vehicle. The animals lived on a range of land and not housed like a regular zoo. The kids found it very exciting . I was kinda scared. Would not recommend to families with smaller children

The best way to get the most out of San Diego is to visit San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World in with the San Diego 3-for-1 Pass. Famous Ballon Safari, the main attraction which takes you up in the air to let you experience the bird's view is often enjoyed by many visitors. I am definitely riding one next time I return for my 3rd visit.

Went here following my graduation to celebrate with friends... we had heard a lot about Seaworld but not about the wild animal park... it was a great decision!! The park is HUGE with a LOT of open spaces where you can spot giraffes and elephants and deer... take the park tour on the tram and you can spot many rare animals in their natural habitats... also a great collection of birds! The evenings often feature fun events like "Dances of the Wild"... mostly in an open-air theater near the entrance to the park...

Definitely a weekend top-10 in southern California!

The Wild Animal Park is a real trip! It is completely different than our zoo...it's more like seeing the animals in their own environment. At the zoo (which is also wonderful), you walk from exhibit to exhibit... and while that is really nice, at the animal park you feel like you have been dropped right into their home (not the other way around). You'll love the experience...it's very big and you'll feel like you didn't see the half of it. I would recommend taking the train so you can see more. Also, it's located out east.... so it can get hot and there are lots of little hills to walk...so depending on the time of the year, you need to be prepared.

San Diego just keeps the animals rolling with the wild animal park and the world famouse San Diego Zoo. This place is actually less crowded that the zoo because when people make their plans for San Diego they always want to go to the zoo that everyone knows and dont really leave space in their schedule for this jewel. This is a totally different zoo experience. You go on the train going around the whole park and its kind of more like a safari. All the animals are around you out on fields and interacting with each other. Sometimes they even go too close to the path of your car so they have to stop the tour. Its definitly a lot of fun.

This is a great experience to take in after visiting the San Diego Zoo. This animal park is a HUGE outdoor facility that covers hundreds of acres. Very shaded walk ways which is nice as this is located in the desert, inland from San Diego about 30 minutes. The animals co-mingle in large "pastures" which are reminicent of their natural environments. Lots of great gift shops and areas to sit in the shade and enjoy watching the animals. The safari ride is available and definately worth every dollar! You take a ride in the back of a safari truck out with the rhinos, elephants, giraffes, camels, etc. Guaranteed to have a giraffe slobber on you!

It's more exciting to be in the wild animal park than it is at the san diego zoo. In the zoo, everything is set right in front of you: "this is your zebra and this is your hippo." Your eyes would just have to scan the perimiters of the cage before spotting the poor imprisoned animal somewhere in the foilage. At the Wild Animal Park, you see them rome free in 1,800-acre animal and plant preserve. When your eyes finally catch a glimps of a rare animal, you get just as excited as if seeing it in the wild. Some things are just funner when not served to you on a silver platter -- and when you know that the animals being watched are happier.

I prefer this place over the Zoo because the animals and the setting are much more natural and similar to what you might find in the wild. It also feels less crowded than the zoo because the park is so spacious. Go on a weekday and see what its like to have the whole place to yourself. Dont miss the obligatory train ride around the entire park, and check the website for new exhibits because they pop up all the time.

PROS: Spacious with natural settings.
CONS: Might be a bit far for some. They charge for parking.

The San Diego Wild Animal Park is a large, open-air animal park. With over 1,000 acres to spread out over, the Wild Animal Park has a unique opportunity to make animal exhibits as close to their natural habitats as possible. With separate parts of the park for Africa and Asia, this animal park, really knows their stuff. Their breeding program is one of the best, if not the best in the world, and as such you will almost always find baby animals, which lets face it, are absolutely adorable, regardless of how hard of a heart you have. The petting zoo is a great place for kids and adults alike to get up close and personal to the animals, and the new Savannah cool zone, is like a mini water playground to cool you off on a hot, hot day. If you can help it, visit the San Diego Wild Animal Park in the fall or early winter months, it can be scorching hot during the summertime. If you must visit in the summer, take advantage of the misters located throughout the park, the Savannah cool zone, and the railway ride, which will at least keep you out of the direct sun for a few minutes.

If you are looking to see the most amazing place in San Diego, look no further!! The San Diego Wild Animal Park is an entity all unto it's own!! There are several ways to travel around the park in style, but I warn you, you still won't see it all!!! The park is vast, the animals plenty, and the educational opportunities for your young ones and yourself are immense!! This was one of our favorite stops in San Diego...I highly recommend this if you love wild and exotic animals!!!
