The Signature Theater Company is unfortunately located over on the West Side of Manhattan, an excruciating long walk from the subway. The area is nice, full of interesting restaurants and sprinkled with other small off-Broadway theaters, but those blocks between Manhattan avenues can get very long.

Once you get there, however, chances are you will forget the walk. The theater is beautiful. It works mostly on membership donations, and gets its name from the signatures of members that you can see on the walls and even on chairs. If a member donates a certain amount of money, he or she gets his or her name on one of the chairs - and you can be lucky to sit in a chair signed by Michael Stipe or Edward Albee!

The seating is arranged for width instead of depth, so even the farthest row is still very close to the stage. Prices can be a little high, especially for an off-Broadway theater, but the venue is very prestigious and gets Broadway-level talent, so the price is often well worth it.

The theater also has an additional advantage of having its own ticket sales system on its website.

PROS: Ticket sales on the website, high-profile performances
CONS: A little pricey, a long walk from the subway
