The Cooler is just what it sounds like: a cooler. It's located in a former giant walk-in refrigerator in the Meat Packing District of Manhattan. This means that it's completely airtight, making for an uncomfortable hot and stuffy atmosphere when the place is full (this isn't helped by the absence of air conditioning). It doesn't help that it's located down a long flight of stairs. I generally don't get claustrophobic easily, but it was very hard for me to stay till the end of the concert there.

The sound suffers too, but really, even if they had a world-class sound system, it would be hard to appreciate it in the stuffy club.

It's located about a 5-minute walk from the subway over on the West Side. Going to the concert, it's usually not a problem: any part of New York is bearable when the stores are open and there are people on the streets. But coming home, usually late at night, can be quite scary as the streets are empty, dark and dirty, and probably not particularly safe.

PROS:
CONS: Bad location, no ventillation
