I was a patient there in 2001 or 2002. It was definitely an experience I'll never forget. The staff was awesome and I think about them often. \r

I took my 16 Year old Daughter to this Nightmare on a Recommendation, When I applied for A EVAL I waited 4 hrs to be seen by an intake nurse. After the Eval I was so Disgusted with this facility I wanted to leave. I requested that me and my Daughter leave , however they told me because my daughter said something about hurting her self she would have to remain on a legal hold B.S. They detained me for another 2 hrs and Threaten to call CPS and Metro if I declined Admission. this was on May 22nd . she was held for 4 days without a legal 2000 in this hell hole. STAY AWAY YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS AT THIS PLACE the police don't care and your at their Mercy.

I've read all of the reviews, and have to say that the "majority" are of my own personal feelings, based on having my young adult son, in and out of this facility over the past 4-5 years, with no success. What I cannot blame on this facility, is the involvement required by the patient, and their "willingness" to be better, take their meds, attend meetings or just be tired of an addiction. This is key and very important. No one Dr. or facility can MAKE anyone ready to be better however, this Hospital was the WORST possible place that my son could've gone too. He was way beyond over medicated when there, which seemed to be their CURE for his addiction, simply because he was able to just ask for more meds that made him sleepy. My son has done the inpatient, outpatient, you name it over the years, and now some $150k later on my insurance, he has not changed one bit in fact, grew to despise this facility himself. Being inpatient, he found ways to purchase marijuana, joked about how easy it was to get meds, etc. The times that I was able to communicate with the staff, they seemed to not know what one Dr. said from the next, from the case worker to intake. It was always a cluster. Dr.'s were prescribing my son things, though he was suicidal, injectables that they were aware, he was incapable of administering to himself. Again, it is up to the individual to WANT to be better, no longer addicted but I have to say, this is the LAST facility I would take a loved one too. Over medicating is not the answer, REAL Dr. to patient advice, treatment plan, after care tracking would prove helpful after all, the treatment at this facility is for either addictions or the mentally unstable. It is not run this way at all. Patients from what I have witnessed, my son included, are simply diagnosed with either Bi Polar Disorder or Schizophrenia. They even GAVE my son pills for ADHD simply because he SAID that he was. My son had never been diagnosed for this illness, yet was just given the medication. That is and should be of concern to anyone having their loved one or friend, admitted here. If allowed, please ask about the medications prescribed, and reason for this medication. My story was not a good one, and unfortunately my son has not been ready to commit to being drug free/has mental issues for sure now, but maybe this review can help someone else in their awareness when and if choosing Monte Vista.

A hospitalis only as good as it's staff. ~~~~ Time and time again I have had to come in contact with a high ranking employee who goes by the alias "vegasgirl44". ~~~ She continually asks for sex with strangers and couples on the internet. This is sick and immoral. ~~ It is easy enough to Google "vegasgirl44", find out who she is and read her sick requests for sex with couples while her husband watches. Sick.

I came here as an adolescent multiple times, and let me tell you- Monte Vista is a living hell. It's the last place you want to be if you're suicidal, depressed, anxiety-stricken, or have insomnia. The adolescent unit is pretty small and extremely unsettling. It feels like a prison.. you become home-sick VERY quickly. You literally spend nearly the entire day in one squished room with about 14 or 15 other patients and some staff/counselors. You spend all day talking in groups with different counselors every hour. You hardly see your doctors, which by the way, hardly speak any English. When not in groups, you just sit around playing cards or playing a board game originally made for pre-schoolers. The staff just sit in their chair all day watching you and get paid for not doing a thing. There's also a staff member there, (not sure if she's still there) named Tina who just sits on her phone all day. The beds are like exercise mats on a wooden bed frame. The bathrooms in the bedrooms have bugs in every corner of them. This place is terrible for suicidal and depressed people. If you go in there feeling that way, you're going to feel x100 worse when you get in there. I spent every night crying on the phone to my mother begging her to take me out. They give you these black soft-bristle hair brushes that just glide on top of your hair, so be prepared to have dreadlocks by the time you're released. Oh, and girls? There's no make-up, decent hair brushes, hair utilities, shaving, hair extensions, or anything that makes you look some-what decent. The day I got released felt like the greatest day of my life. I don't think I had ever been that happy before. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone. Don't even consider it..

I went to Montevista because I was suicidal. I sat around about 5 or 6 hours before I saw any staff member. I went at night and there were about 20 people waiting to be seen. They only had 2 people doing admissions. I called during the morning and spoke to someone named Sarah who was very rude on the phone and told me to come in that evening. It is not easy being suicidal and waiting all day for help. When I went back for my assessment I noticed there were only 2 people working. The lady doing my assessment ( Marcia) I think was very nice and professional. After my assessment she explained I would have to wait in the lobby until they were ready on the unit for me. I was afraid in the lobby because most of the people there looked violent and there was no Security Guard to be seen! After about 5 hours someone finally took me back to the unit. Mind you I had been crying the entire time from the moment I arrived. When I finally got back to the unit they were very demanding and rude as they searched me and took away my belongings including my sweatshirt because it had a string in it. For two days I had to play the game of pretending the so called therapist were helping. They were also giving me meds without even seeing a Doctor. Finally the third day I saw my Doctor. He said I was going to kill myself by overdosing. I told him I didn't know where he got that stupid idea because I had told them my plan was to drown myself. The Doctor spent about 4 minutes with me. Said I was Bipolar and sent me on my way. During my stay I constantly felt my safety was threatened. The Nursing staff didn't care a hoot about the patients. I got the feeling I was disturbing their reading time when I had a question or needed meds. I think they were just there to collect a check. Thank God they released me when my 72 hour hold was over. I spent 20 years in the military and have never been subjected to such horrible food, living conditions, nor rude uncaring staff. I really felt like the only people that cared there was the staff that did the assessment. If you are having mental health or substance abuse problems go to one of the other facilities in Vegas. If there are none here that can help you go to CA or AZ before going to Montevista Hospital. They don't care about you, your condition, your safety, or your well being. They only care about how much they can squeeze out of you insurance company or you! Please, please take care of yourself or loved one and don't go here no matter what the situation!!!

I have been to hell and back. Volunteered to stay as I was depressed. Never attempted suicide ever, never took any medications in 60 years. They put me on the HI side which is with all the violent previously jailed, hallucinating, hearing voices people. I was quiet and was confronted by a mental, alcoholic, drug person 22 yrs old twice where the security had to pull him away. He also did this to 4 other depressed quiet people. I watched males loudly talking to their voices massaging their crotchs, picking and eating their buggers and masturbating loudly in the next room. I watched men chanting Shakespeare, then chemical equations, then speaking sentences that made no sense and when told to quiet down pull down their pants and fart and pull poop from their butt and smear it on the floor who were then drugged for a few hours and repeated over and over. I found safety talking to my roommate who did meth for 7 yrs and a cutter of 20 yrs and an intelligent gay man who may have tried to cut off his penis. if you hid in your room you were considered non participating. In group you had to lie and say you had no depression, no agitation and no anxiety or you would not get out. Saw Dr. Singh for 4 minutes after 48 hrs. Diagnosed immediately bi polar. Didn't get meds until 3rd day. Only saw doctor 4 times in 7 days for 4 minutes. When I asked him when I could leave as I was a volunteer he held up his finger and shushed me. I said could I sign myself out and he said "don't threaten me, I could make it very difficult on you. Needed to wear lymphodema prescribed tight sock and they said no so my leg swelled badly and became red as water could not get out. 5th day he approved sock and I got it on the 6th day. When asking for "when needed" meds you had to wait an hour and were told they had an hour to comply. So anxiety and people in pain were miserable for an hour or more.
You are treated like cattle, all the same. I left with no instructiions on prescriptions or doctor appointments as they were all surrounding an out of control mental patient. Philipino dark haired evening worker was rude, non caring. Most employees were overworked, exhausted and angry except Shawn and maybe 3 others. Violent men should not be mixed with depression patients. Did I get help here. NOT AT ALL. It will take me months to recover from this week in hell. Think very carefully before you put yourself or a loved one in this awful place. I am 61, 5 ft tall, never did drugs or drank or smoked tobacco and was depressed for the first time and I now have a bipolar diagnosis from a doctor who never once looked up from his papers except to say shush.

Every business is in the business of money, but Montavista Hospital (MVH) exploits their patients and their staff for a buck. When Strategic Health acquired MVH in early 2012 they made it seem that they were going to make some positive changes. The only positive change they made........ Was Nothing! Once acquired; their employees had to change their insurance benefits twice, to a more expensive and less beneficial insurance. Employees were no longer allowed to eat for free, but doctors and administration were allowed to. Their Mental Health technicians?? work eight hour shifts and most of them can??t take breaks or are subjected to take their breaks when their shift is almost over, due to administration under staffing us constantly. Putting staff and patients at risk every day. Administration is constantly putting staff at risk of being injured by highly volatile, mental patients. There has been multiple times were staff has been or almost injured to due understaffing, And if their staff is injured due to a patient, administration runs to the cameras to check if the staff in any way instigated it, before they check on their injured staff. They don??t care! About staff or their patients. On top of all this employee abuse they are messing with our paychecks and PTO times. Most staff are missing their PTO holiday pay, or are not getting they proper time. Human resources blame it on the payroll system, but if you ask me I smell a rat. How is the system going to continuously make errors? And be missing worked hours, and PTO time. If strategic was missing money, they would quickly resolve the issue, but because it doesn??t affect them they don??t care to fix it in a timely manner. Tell me, how long have we been having this issue MVH? I worked here for two years and this place makes me sick, not mentally but physically. I get headaches, and rashes. I believe it??s from the hospital being so old. If you look up at the vents they are caked with dust. When I first started working their ECT better known as Electric Shock Therapy was hardly being administered. Now, every week we are seeing more and more patients being referred to this abrasive therapy. Patients of course have an option to decline it. Why are they pushing it $$$$ (that??s why) They have a newly appointed DON Rebecca that acts like a caring, sympathetic individual, but she in fact is fake as hell. Don??t know how to put it in any other way. We recently had a mandatory meeting were Rebecca addressed some issues, concerns and pretty much said that "staff is disposable and they are a lot more staff already hired to take their spots." Way to motivate your stressed underpaid staff. Within that same meeting she felt the need to address rumors that were going around about her and another administrator having rumored sexual relationship, which she denies. WTF! Who does that! Especially an administrator of a hospital! In no way should an administrator have to address such a personal thing, rumors or not. Be professional! And know that you know the truth. We also have a "so called" milieu manager Mike that runs around confused as the patients that we help. He never knows what??s going around in the hospital, and when we go to him for issues that involve patients, he never has an answer. We pretty much have to problem solve it ourselves. I bet if I ask him what the schedule is on the 3 units, he has no idea without looking at the schedule, and he is the manager of the units. He is also sexist and prefers the male staff. He easily dismisses the women workers, but has a friendly demeanor with the male staff. Males at montavista make more money than their female counterparts and if they disagree, show me the proof that they don??t. Another huge problem we face is that Adult Services is extremely busy at most times with admissions and discharges. Why aren??t the house supervisors helping the nurses out when it gets incredibly busy? At times, we can get 3 admissions 4 minutes apart from each other, and not one House supervisor can help the nurses out. Staff at MVH for the most part is hard working individuals that strive to go home safe, sane, and intact. Staff respects and try to help the patients we serve, but it makes it difficult to do our job, when we know nobody on the upper level has our backs. You??re a joke MVH! I??m protected by my 3rd amendment right; I dare you to fire me.

I was taken here on a 72 hour legal hold because, long story short, my words got misinterpreted and someone decided I was suicidal. My whole life I have been happy, fun-loving, outgoing and excited about everything. After going here, I can honestly say that I am not the same person anymore. It was the most traumatizing experience in the entire world. Especially for a normal, happy person like me. The nurses completely disregarded me almost every time I tried to talk to them. The "doctor" only talked to me 2 times before I was discharged PROMPTLY at my 72 hour release because I had to fake every moment of it. I refused any and all medication except for my muscle relaxants for my back. When I got back to my dorm, I had a panic attack because I was so horrified. It's only been 2 weeks since this happened to me and I still haven't been able to talk about what happened. This place definitely changed my life permanently, and NOT in a good way.

It's only been 2 weeks since this happened to me and I still haven't been able to talk about what happened. This place definitely changed my life permanently, and NOT in a good way.

Partial is of no help. Recently I had to admit my little sister to partial after being in acute inpatient for almost 2 months. The MFT at partial had no clue what she was talking about & would report things that my sister never said. They had no clue that she was supposed to be taking her medication nor would they make sure that she did. After two suicide attempts she started cutting. I took her back to get assessed since she cut both her wrists & had thoughts of hurting herself. They would not admit her to inpatient. I guess they're waiting for her to overdose for a third time to see she needs help.

We registered our daughter for a "partial hospitlazation program" and so far we are not impressed with the services. They never showed up on the first day to pick her up, we are paying for transportation as part of her program. We called several times the day before so as to ensure that she would be picked up, the phone number provided went into voice mail. We called again the day she was supposed to be picked up, then person has not called back, nor was she here to pick up our daughter, we had to drive her to the hospital for the programs. Needless to say, she was late. We paid a down payment, our insuranance approved the first week, but now we are going to ask the hospital to discharge her, or we will take her out, and go back to our private physician and go with her recommendation and take our daughter to a private Therapist.

I would never go back to this hospital. They gave me so many meds that I didn't even know what I was taking! On my first night, I could not urinate. The nurse said it was probably due to the medications. I was in so much pain, but they told me I had to wait until the next day when the doctor was in. Are you kidding me?? I could barely walk after all the meds they had me on! I was so sedated! I told the doctor, who was useless, and he said that it would pass. Never did! I met with their psychiatrist for all of 20 mintues and he had me diagnosed as Bi-Polar! I went in as I have insomnia and was abusing my sleep medications just so I could sleep. Upon returning home, I couldn't sleep. The Dr. just kept wanting to up the Trazadone. I left there with so many pills I actually had to write them all down as to what I took when. I ended up with rebound insomnia in which I did not sleep for two weeks straight! I got off them as quickly as possible and went to a real doctor!
A year later, I get a notice from a collection agency stating I have not paid my bill! In one year, not one bill from them and not one phone call from there billing dept.! Fortunantly, the lady at the collection agency was kind and able to work with me. She said she heard this all the time from people who have been at this hospital. I would not reccomend this hospital to anyone!

this place does not deserve half a star to say the least ,i was admitted by my stepmother who was a meth addict but had good insurance. i was a stoner when i was 16 and they decided to give me phenobarbital, klonopin, and high doses of adderal and i dont have add either but the doctors nwapa and peprha who were full on south africans that barely spoke and understood english, very dangerous when dealing with kids and narcotics, they dont even try to ask for medication allergys. EVERY CHILD WAS A VICTIM OF MAL PRACTICE ive witnessed the things that went on, inpatient and out patient staff will degrade you, threaten you, and drug you heres a list of staff who will ruin your life MRS.G, ANTHONY,CLYDE,MR.STEVE(and he was the most forceful as far as medicene goes)and he wasnt a doctor! no matter what your there for you will be diagnosed with bipolar or psycosis .all my peers got druged or mentaly attacked by these overgrown children they call staff.NO CHILD DESERVES THIS KIND OF TREATMENT BY MONTEVISTA AKA AUSCHWITS.

this hosp almost killed my 7 yr old son. He went in for behavior issues and they gave him meds that are not approved for children and my son suffered tramatic brain injury. he is litterally like retarted now with EPS and tardive dyskenisia. he will NEVER have his own life. he went from a normal little 7yr old to a completely disabled child overnight due to a deadly mixture of heavy narcotics they gave him---without our permission or warning of what the drugs side effects where. you make your own conclusion..........

I was admitted into the adolescent unit two years ago when I was thirteen. I'd been bulimic for a year, and anorexic for about six months. I also was cutting/burning myself, had borderline, BDD, depression, and a mood disorder. This is the WORST place I could've possibly gone to. They didn't try to treat me. They rushed me through everything. They seemed to want my final payment and get me out of there. They wouldn't transfer me to an ED unit, which is what I really needed. Dr. Napa told my parents I didn't need treatment and that I was acting out diagnosises that I'd read about disorders. (Bear in mind, I hadn't eaten in five days and had to be taken to a medical hospital to be stabilized beforehand because I had almost had a heart attack. I went to Monte Vista immediately after I was in 'good' condition again. I was regularly eating 200 calories a day, purging at least once a day, and cutting myself ten times a day.) He ridiculed me for not being at a lower weight, saying that was evidence I didn't really have a problem. I'd gone from 183 pounds to 119 pounds in four months before I had been admitted, and his comment on my weight triggered me further. My initial stay was supposed to be for nine months, he released me after two weeks. He was supposed to continue working with me, but stopped contacting my parents and wouldn't return our calls when I needed my medications filled.
In addition to this doctor, nurses regularly treated staff crudly. Partically Ms. G. M, a young girl who had been raped and was bipolar, had not talked during a session in her entire stay. Finally she broke down crying and Ms. G yelled at her for this. M was yelling and screaming or anything, just crying, but Ms. G told her she had to stop or she would be placed in solitary confinement (the quiet room) until she stopped. I defended M and Ms. G took me took back to level one from level five for this.
I relapsed shortly after leaving the hospital. They did not care about my well being or making sure I continued to eat and maintain my weight. Now, I'm fifteen and in the worst state in my life. I'm not saying that is purely their fault, just that they could have done so much more. I would never choose this place as a treatment center.
I would never recommend staying here. A close friend recently confided me she'd been admitted to Monte Vista a few years ago, and her experiences were similar.

I went into Monte Vista back in Dec 09'. I have to say that the horrors stories are true for this hospital. This Hospital is under the PSI (psychiatric Solutions Inc or Psychotheraputic Serves Inc)umbrella a for profit company that supposedly provides dignified services for people with Mental Illnesses. My experienced has left me with a horrible fear of these hospitals unlike before that I could deal with them. I was lied to by the doctor because he did not want to prescribe a med that I needed. I was told several times " We dont treat that on this unit." I was denied mobility assistance when I could hardly walk because of knee issues and was told anything they could give me was considered a weapon so I could not have anything and yet someone who could walk but was elderly was given a wheelchair and a walker but I could not get anything even though I fell twice because my knee went out. They were supposed to put me in the fall risk category but did not upon intake and because they did not I was denied help. I watched as a therapist berated a patient, who was appropriate and calm in his statements, then kicked him out of the group because the patient did not agree with the therapists ideologies or beliefs about recovery. The state patient rights do not state that a patient has the right to be treated with dignity and respect and this hospital takes every opportunity to treat patients worse than prisoners are in the jail system. I would not recommend this hospital even to my worst enemy because I feel everyone has a right to be treated humanly and this hospital doesn't. Most of the doctors think they are god and don't need to listen to their patients. They give medications they think will work regardless of objections from the patient whether it is because they don't work or other reasons. A person is to be seen by the doctor with in 24 hours of admission and aren't. My doctor prescribed medications without talking with me first and without knowing my medical history. I am sorry I could go on and on but I still continue to have severe nightmares since dec and considering I have PTSD it is not good. This hospital has done me more damage than it has good. I can't rate this hospital because there is not a rating low enough; however, since I cant publish this without one I give it an eh

Pros: Decent food, and some caring low level staff

Cons: Demeaning, domineering, favoritism

I did the intense outpatient program at MonteVista for five weeks for addiction, I thought it was extreeeemely helpfull and the staff was all very friendly. I never did the inpatient so maybe that is different? what do the phsyco's expect a freakin resort? anyways i highly recomend them for drug or alcohol addiction, they have a very high success rate!

I went to Monte vista for an assessment for my child. I was very impressed with the staff and their willingness to help. As it turned out, my daughter did not need to be admitted to the hospital but they did refer me to an outpatient therapist for further care and treatment. This hospital made my visit as painless as possible and gave me all of the options for my daughter upfront.

My friend was admitted there and as far as I saw, they treated her OK. However, whenever I called, one staff would tell me she was in a group, the other staff tells me she was asleep. Which one is it? Asleep in a group? She seem to be always sedated as their reasoning is and maybe there is credence to this, she needs to sleep and when she wakes up, she will be better and back to normal. She has been there now for two weeks and her condition is still the same. And she is always sedated. Is that how you control people in places like this? Some of the staff, actually, the majority of the staff are wonderful. I just question the sedating part.

My ten year old daughter was admitted for treatment. Being the only adolescent unit in the state of Nevada, I had little choice. She was admitted as she has a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder that was established by three different professionals before her admission to Monte Vista. I was told that she did not have Bipolar Disorder that she that diagnoses did not exist for children. I was told that she needed more discipline. She was kept off her medications for three days. She was unstable at the time of admission and I was requesting medication adjustments. After three days she was put back on the same medications she was on upon admission. She was treated like a criminal and I wasn't told until she was admitted that I was only allowed to see her one hour a day. I was not informed of anything regarding her treatment. After one week they released her on the same medications and she was still highly unstable and I had to admit her to the emergency room by ambulance the same evening she was released. I have moved out of the state of Nevada because of my experience with Monte Vista and I would not recommend anyone take their loved on there.

My ten year old daughter was admitted for treatment. Being the only adolescent unit in the state of Nevada, I had little choice. Although I did get allot out of the group for my addiction I was disappointed when I got my bill. Originally I was billed $3600 of that I was to pay only $216.00. That was fine until I called to make payment arrangements in which I was told that my new bill was $9700 and my obligation was $857. Unbelievable!!!! Bate and switch. Needless to say I am going to pay it or they will turn me into collections but in returne I have notified the State Attorneys office of Nevada of the incident. I do not recommend this place because of billing issues. The staff where good but that dose not add up to 3x what I originally owed.

RUN, don't walk away from this place! My experience with this facility has been VERY negative. Uncaring staff, stupid "group" activities, and a cold prison-like atmosphere. Stay away from this place AT ALL COSTS! They LOVE to admit you if you have good insurance and suck you out until there is nothing left. This place could only be located in an IDOTIC city like Las Vegas. This place sucks. Are they going to "help" you? Hell no. They will suck your insurance money... no insurance... take a hike.

I went to this facility simply to receive an assessment, but was instead informed that the "Dr." whom I never saw had ordered me to be admitted and if I did not consent, that I would be taken to an emergency room for them to decide if I should be kept. They locked me in, I couldn't get out of the place for 3 hours. I finally had to sneak out when someone entered from the other side of the locked doors and I was able to run out. It was one of the most frightening experiences of my life and for someone who suffers from panic disorder it was a huge setback!

I went here as a juvinile. I had been in and out of mental hopsitals because of my anger and eating problems. I was a ward of the state so there were no parents to come visit me etc. This particular hospital had no personal time. Every second of the day you were doing something in a group. I am more of a loner and hated that. You would have to be there for at least 2 weeks before they would let you 'earn' a journal to write in! At the time, i was in high school and they made me do middle school work. I must say though, they got me eating food again simply because it was SOOOO good. The food is all homemade tasing, all very good and the staff are all very nice!

PROS: no free time, no writing allowed, schooled below my level
CONS: great food, helpful staff

I had the unfortunate experience of having to admit a family member to this hospital. I had really hoped they would be able to help him with his emotional issues and drug addiction. Unfortunately what happened was that he was sedated to the point where he was functioning but not really recovering. The program helped him only through that brief time, but didn't teach him what he really needed to know in order to fully recover.

Montevista is a small private hospital. It is the only place in Vegas that you can find to help yourself or someone you care about with mental health or substance abuse. There are times they are so busy you must be put on a waiting list and times they can accept you right away. The care is " the best they can do ". It depends on the number of people that has been admitted. When extremely busy they are understaffed.
