Rocky Run used to be a great practice but all the kind, caring doctors have left (besides Dr. Markin). The new doctors couldn't care less and don't listen to you when you talk to them.

I only use them for my husband and myself. I definitely wouldn't let my kids go there. But even so, it's time for us to get a new doctors practice.

I have been going to Rocky Run for abot 5 years and have always has a good experience. I have been seen by Dr Markin and Dr Ramirez and thet are both real nice and will listen and answer any questions. The nurses are also nice and helpful. Sometimes the wait is a bit long, but as with any office dealing with people and treatments some appointments can take longer than others

Doctors leave this practice too often. There doesn't seem to be a good retention rate. Dr. Mugol was awesome, but he's long gone. Dr. Markin is good, too, but it's not likely I'll ever get to see her when I'm sick since I'd need to take what I could get. The major concern is that the office staff out front is unprofessional, rude, and uncaring. They really need to work on this at RRFM. We have changed doctors but have yet to get our paperwork from them in a timely manner to be sent to our new doctor's office. It is very important how your receptionists treat people!

I have to agree with most! Office is very improfessional. and money does seems to be the number 1 priority here! I knew When Dr. Mugol left I needed to leave as well. I moved back to my doctor in Arlington great and knows his stuff. Sadly it's an hour away but I'd rather travel to soemone who cares about the patient and not just $! then to pay money and feel nbody cares!

I love my doctor's. After moving to Alabama for two years, I came back to Rocky Run and they are still doing great! There PA's are very knowledgeable and I have never had an issue with them. I can usually schedule an appointment for the same day and usually only wait 5-10 minutes to see a doctor. The staff is great and the Doctor's (and PA's!) are very intelligent.

I have to disagree that "the PA's are awful". The two named in the post below may be, I don't know because I have never been treated by anyone in the practice except PA Leah Siegfried. She is absolutely great. I see her every 4-6 weeks due to very bad insomnia and anxiety. She discussed my medication with me from day one. I take Valium for the panic attacks and even though I only take it twice a week or so, we have talked about when I think I can be okay without it. The thing that struck me most was that she insisted that if I was taking it regularly, even if I was only taking it once a week, that I not stop suddenly so that I wouldn't have discomfort. Most doctors will overlook the discomfort you may be in from abruptly stopping if you take a small dose like that. She is very easy to talk to and easy to be open with about your needs and if she can't give you what you ask for she will tell you why she can't, and will treat you in the way that is best. I have also never had a problem with the front desk staff; at my last visit I had met my insurance's out of pocket limit for the year and when I told the receptionist she took me at my word and didn't check. They are also very good with same day appointments. Maybe I have just been lucky, and I hate to hear that others have had bad experiences, but I like the care and service I receive there quite a lot and would reccomend it to anyone.

The PA's there are horrible! I was misdiagnosed or dismissed when I came in with an earache. The PA said that it wasn't anything to worry about, and would go away on its own. Well, 3 days later I came back with severe pain :( and the same ear infection, only worse. I'm all for not overusing antibiotics, but seriously, why make those who genuinely DO need them wait and suffer?? Also, as previously mentioned here, Dr. Sherling is a huge NO on my list. Not friendly or compassionate at all. The 2 Dr's there that ARE good are Dr. Markin and Dr. Poonawala, though the later one left, I believe. The reception staff is very hit/miss as well. I've dealt with very friendly, polite ones, and some who obviously hate their job and make no effort to pretend they do.

In short, it's conveniently located, and you can sometimes get a sick appointment the same day, but you'll likely get stuck with the crappy PA's, or with one of the less than friendly Dr's. If you can stick with Dr. Markin, then it's worth all the hassle.

I have been a patient of Rocky Run Family Medicine every since I was little.. I just had my 20th birthday.. to give you an idea of how long I've been a patient. I always saw Dr. Carroll until he moved to North Carolina. He is a WONDERFUL doctor and I miss him dearly... Especially after my first experience today seeing a different doctor in the office. All of my visits since he has been gone have been nurses visits until my appointment today with Dr. Sherling.-- I will NEVER see her again. Not only was her compassion nonexistent, I feel that I would have done a better job diagnosing myself (I'm a nursing student). It was my first time meeting her and she couldn't even introduce her self when entering the room. I mean come on.

Anyways, the nurses are great (especially Maggie!!!) and the front desk staff is hit or miss... Sometimes I have good experiences with them and other times I don't. Dr. Markin is also wonderful...! I see her for my gyno appointments and she's awesome. Love her! She is very busy but I will make sure that I work my schedule with her next time I need to go to the doctor, for whatever reason.

I have been a patient for many years. Recently they have changed over many of their doctors. They are not well informed. On 2 separate occassions they told me one thing about an ailment that was blatantly wrong. 1 i had to tell the PA she was wrong and she came back in and told ME suprisingley i was right. the other i went online and verified they were wrong. They use too many Physicial assistants that can't diagnose a hang nail.

I went to see Doctor Sherling and will never see her again. She has no bedside manner, and I could tell she felt uncomfortable dealing with what could be a very serious condition. Of course, I had some concerns and questions, but she didn't want to take the time with me to listen. She spent about 3 minutes with me, and by the time a went back to get my lab work I was in tears. I would just like to add, I only saw Doctor Sherling because Dr. Weaver went home sick the previous day so the receptionist set me up with Doctor Sherling. I just to add the Dr. Weaver is wonderful and so is nurse Sandy.

I've been going to Rocky Run for many years because it is conveniently located from my home. I've never seen any doctor's office changing the doctors as frequently as Rocky Run. Some were good and some were bad. We all want to have our doctors stay long time but they miserably failed the long term relationship with the doctors and the patients. My biggest problem is that the office staff are unprofessional and getting them on the phone is almost impossible. THEY JUST DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE!

The office is closed from 12 noon to 1:15 which is crazy. I have never heard of (sick appointments) it appears that only sick appointments are available on certain days, and it is a night mare to schedule a follow up appointment. Dr. Markin is among the best as far a caring doctor, she always finds the time to dedicate to her patience. I love her. and I only go to Rocky Run for her.The office always seen to be rushed and are not willing to even try to schedule appointments to your needs.

what is it with this money thing... The practice is a business as well as a doctor's office. they don't run on air. if you owe a copay or if you are self pay, pay your bills.. do you have a problem going out eating and paying for your meals. you signed a contract w/your ins to pay your copays when you chose your ins. wouldn't you want to get paid if you did a service... then what is the problem with paying your copays.. it doesn't say rockyrun FREE family medicine... those people need their pay checks just like everyone else. they shouldn't have to ask you for it, you know you owe so pay it.

I thought I would give the "women" a go before leaving when Dr. Mugol left - it was awful. One time my aunt had an appt. to see one of them after a stroke and they called the morning of the appt to tell me that the doctor had a sick kid and they were otherwise booked! Then I had an appt with one of the other females and was called the day before only to be told that she had decided to extend her vacation - that was it for me - we left and I'm so so happy w/the doc we have now - once you've had perfection, those are hard shoes to fill! Sooooooooooo!! I hope Mrs. Mugol wants to come back to her family and bring my Dr. Mugol home!!!!

I started going to RRFM in June of 2008 and I didn't have a problem at all. The staff seemed nice and friendly and about as helpful as one would expect at a doctors office.
I can't remember the name of the Dr. I visited for my healthy woman's exam, but she was very professional and calming which I really appreciated. I am extremely uncomfortable with gyno visits and usually cry the entire time (so pathetic I know), but she was sweet and supportive. Then again a few months later I had to call to ask about some strange things that were happening to my vision and they referred me right away to an eye specialist.
I'm sorry I don't have the doctors name, she was just young, blond, skinny, and very friendly... I would recommend anyone coming here, much better than my last practice.

My previous doctor had been Dr Mogul, so I saw Dr Shurlan for swelling & pain in my leg. Her bedside manner was non-existent and with no introduction. She was in the room about 3 minutes. I was sent for an ultrasound for clots
and called the clinic the next day to speak to the doctor. A receptionist told me the doctor would call me later. Later, I received another call from the receptionist who told me the text was negative and I should take over the counter pain medication and stay off of my feet, but could not tell me for how long! Dr S had left for the day. I expressed my annoyance as obviously my case has been dismissed and I've had no further contact from the doctor to see why I had these symptoms. I still have pain and some swelling but will never see her again. The receptionists could really use some lessons in courtesy as well.

I was getting ready to leave this practice when Dr. Mugol moved to California (he was an exceptional Dr. with AMAZING care for his patients). I had had to see Dr. Sherling and never before have I thought about walking out of an appt. until I saw her. She made me feel so uncomfortable about my concerns that I was almost in tears and ready to never return. I am so glad I did and went to see Dr. Ramirez whom was recommended to me by Dr. Mugol. She has the same wonderful bedside manner that had made me want to go to this practice when my sister had told me about the care she had received for her and her son from Dr. Mugol. I will however never see any physician but her at this practice again.

I've been going to RRFM for several years. I can't believe all the bad reviews that I have seen. I think that its bad enough family medicine is over rated these days, you can't find physicians and medical staffing that know you well enough. I like to feel like I'm comfortable when I do to the doctors being that its the doctors and I don't want to be there anyway I'd much rather feel relaxed. I can't stand and uptight place where everyone is so straight and narrow that they will break if they smile. I don't feel that way when I come to RRFM. I feel like everyone from the front to the back office knows me, and treats me like I'm a person not a number. People want everything fast these days, fast food, fast service etc. I don't want anything fast when it comes to my health, I don't mind waiting when I know its worth the wait. The doctors in my experience treat every patient as if they are the only one. Its a shame people have time to write all the neagativity about Rocky Run, what lives you all have hmmm. Seems to me like those who are not happpy with themselves can't do anything else but try and make other people's lives a living He__. Get a life and if you all are so unhappy why don't you just go to web md and get your treatment. Thank you Rocky Run for always accomodating my health care nees, you all are not and emergency room nor a urgent care, but your great with taking on urgent tasks, keep it up, and as long as I'm in VA my entire family and I will always be patient's of yours.

I have been a patient at Rocky Run for the last 7 years. I see a lot of doctors and thus am very picky. Dr. Markin is always very patient and I never feel rushed. She is willing to stick with you until you are satisfied with the diagnosis and treatment and just has great bedside manor. I also like that they have a lab on sight so you don't have to make an extra stop. Also, I am always able to get an appointment for the same day if I am sick.

While I have not had any issues with the office management or filing of insurances, I do see where there is room for improvement. None of the front office staff seem to have had training in their service skills. I was always taught that the first key to good customer service is that you greet people with a smile. This is not something you get often.

So the office staff leave a little to be desired but the doctors are great!

I have been seen by every doctor on staff in the past 8 years. They are all competent, caring and knowledgable. The admin staff are experienced and efficient despite the huge volume of patients seen by this office. The nursing staff is top notch. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Rocky Run Family Medicine, especially working with Dr. Mugol (who recently moved out of state). Dr. Carroll, Dr. Markin, and Dr. Ramirez are fantastic. If I need to be seen on an emergency basis, the staff will find a way to get me an appointment same day.

I've been going to RR for a few years and am looking to change. Although if you are really sick, they will get you in to see a PA that day, the rest of the staff is inadequate. Thank goodness I no longer need referrals for insurance b/c when I did, it took about 10 phone calls over and over again leaving the same messages. When you check in, the front staff barely acknowledges you, but is quick to take your money up front. Most of the time, they are more interested in talking about their weekend or singing their favorite R&B songs (that really happened!). Dr. Markin has been very nice and accommodating. Dr. Sherling has no bedside manner and made me uncomfortable with her flat affect and lack of personality. I'm looking for a new practice b/c it's such a pain to get prescription refills there, too.

Most of the time, they are more interested in talking about their weekend or singing their favorite R&B songs (that really happened!). Dr. Markin has been very nice and accommodating. Dr. Sherling has no bedside manner and made me uncomfortable with her flat affect and lack of personality. I'm looking for a new practice b/c it's such a pain to get prescription refills there, too.

i have been going to this office for a long time, i have had no problems in getting appointments or any other matter taken care of. i can not believe all the negitive comments people are saying. you show me one dr's office you go to that you don't have a wait. i have been in there at their busiest time with people at the door and i watch the front desk staff get patients signed in and ready for there appointments. it can't be a easy job dealing with sick and grumpy people all the time and i think they do a great job in handling difficult people at times. i have seen people come in and attack the front staff verbally and they handled the situtation in good taste. rocky run is a great family practice and i would recommend them to my friends and family. just remember you can't always believe everything you read and there is always two sides to a story. as far as the wait time or other people go back before you, just remember there are several doctor's there seeing other patients besides you. have patience, read a magazine, or watch tv and i'm sure you will be next.

I have been going to Dr. Markin for years and think she is truly one of the most caring people I have met in my life. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to get through when I call early in the morning, but the staff is always very accomodating. I hear really nice things about Dr, Weaver, the new doctor, and plan to be with these doctors as long as they are in the area. Maggie, the head nurse, has always been wonderful also.

I just switched from Heritage Family Practice because Dr. Weaver recently left them and joined Rocky Run Family Practice. I have been going to her for several years and she is by all accounts, the Five-Star Doctor that everyone wants and needs. I just transfered my records, along with my 3 yr old son's, and I'm terrified that I may have made a mistake after reading these reviews about the practice. I will NOT tolerate any of the office staff being rude to me, or my son, so I hoping for a efficient, pleasant and competent appointment in August. I know that Dr. Weaver and her Nurse Assistant, Sandy will give us the best possible care. Although, when I called to make the appointment I was automatically put on hold for 12-minutes before anyone picked-up the phone. I plan on printing out all of these reviews and giving them to Dr. Weaver, as maybe she can take some of your information to the appropriate person(s) to make some positive changes in the practice. Wish me luck - I will provide an update after my son's first appointment in mid-August for a physical.

They have 2 new doctors who seem really great. I have only had positive experience with them and believe it will continue! Good luck Dr. Mugol in California!!!

My family has been going there for years and it is great to have their office in Centreville. The only family member that did not go there was my wife, but her doctor recently took a new job (wiht Rocky Run) so we are now all at the same place.

The front office staff was OK, but over the last year has really started to become top notch. Dr. Markin is great! Also, we have had a few serious illnesses and Drs. Markin, Caroll and Sherling all treated me and the kids well!

I hear Dr. Caroll is moving out of town which is a shame, but they have a shole bunch of great doctors, and we pretty much see Dr. Markin. Also, when the kids are sick we get to see the doctor or PA the same day which is really great!

The two doctors that I liked, Poonawala and Mugol, have left the practice. When I had a very severe respiratory infection I had to keep going back because my symptoms never went away. The PA I saw (Sealock) kept giving me the weakest medicine possible, meanwhile, the doctor my husband saw gave him some very strong medicine and he was well almost immediately.

In addition, the office staff is pretty surly and incompetent. At one point my doctor referred me to a cardiologist, and when I arrived at the cardiologist's office, their office staff told me that Rocky Run had ignored all their requests to fax over my file. I had to call the Rocky Run office to demand it be faxed so the cardiologist could see me. The medical assistants (do they even have RNs?) aren't very good. Now that I have moved out of Centreville, I have no reason to return there for my medical care.

Up until Jan 2008, I had been a patient of Rocky Run's since they opened. They used to be so efficient and somewhat compassionate. Now they rush you in and out like cattle, don't really care about a person as an individual, and are cold and callous. I've been in numerous times where I would tell them a symptom or family history where they would look at my chart and if there wasn't room on the page, they wouldn't even write it down.

I had been to them numerous times complaining of upper middle back pain, and other times shortness of breath. The back pain was diagnosed as muscle pull and the shortness of breath as asthma.

I found a lump on my neck in December 07. That was again diagnosed as a muscle pull. After my insistence of getting it checked out further (and believe me it wasn't easy having Michelle Sealock, PA, order tests), it was determined it was cancer. How did Ms. Sealock inform me of this? She called my cell phone and told me over the phone! I now have inoperable Stage IV (advanced) lung cancer that possibly could've been caught earlier had tests been ordered for my upper back pain.

They gave me names of oncologists to call, but didn't call any for me (which other doctors since have told me would have gotten me in to see an oncologist much sooner than I could do on my own). They gave me no guidance at all, so I found another primary care physician and had my records transferred. The next day I called them to plead with them to help me call oncologists so I could get in to see one and start treatment, at which time the office manager contacted me, and told me (as condescending as he could be) that they were under no obligation to help me since I had my records transferred the previous day. How sad!

The office Staff at Rocky Run is HORRIBLE! I went in for severe pain and not only are the rude but it's almost as if they try to screw up their jobs. They didn't take messages correctly, wrote down the wrong phone number when I did call in, took a wrong message from a specialist that called in re my case, on and on. I have never dealt with a more incompetent staff!

That being said I do find the Dr. Markin to be great at her job as is nurse Maggie and Nurse Olivia. Other than that this practice needs a office staff overhaul.

I really love the convenience and this is the main reason I stick with them. However I find the staff is very impersonal and the doctors have yet to actually look at my medical records. For example I had an alergic reaction to an antibiotic once a long time back and even though it is clearly written on their records, they always ask me, "Am I allergic to any medicine?" and, "Which one?". If I had children I would probably find another doctor as something like the above example could be a life/death type of deal. Only once did I have a doctor that treated me like a person there, only to discover she moved to Georgia a year later.

My entire family and I have been going here for 7 years. We LOVE the doctors. They're perfect! However, the office staff couldn't be worse. We're always mis-billed so our insurance ends up not paying. Or the bill is never sent, so we'll have something go into collections without ever finding out about it. The waits are horrible, and you'll see people going in who haven't been there nearly as long. And the receptionists are incredibly rude.
We'll continue to go here simply because we love Dr Mugol and Dr Markin, but if you're thinking about becoming a new patient, be aware that you'll be sacrificing your sanity.

I have been going to RR for several years and Dr. M is a very caring individual. He has made every effort to do what ever is needed to be sure my family is well cared for. We are very comfortable with his advice and care. I have had some unusual health issues and through patient persistence Dr. M has seen me through. The office staff is like all office staff everywhere, willing to help and pleasant. Occasionally a mistake is made but I also see them trying to fix things when and if this occurs. Stuff happens everywhere but at this office I feel that people are smiling and cooperative- helping each other and me out.

I have been going here for years and agree that the front desk does not give you a warm fuzzy but the care is very good. You can, and should have your own doctor who you see for most care and still have the convenience of having a number of doctors when getting seen is your number one concern.

I have to say that I got fed up with this facility for my daughter. The front desk makes you feel as if money always comes first, your health is not nearly as important. You never see the same doctor twice. The doctors are very nice, but because they don't know your history and don't seem to read your file, they end up only ever treating the symptoms. They never explore what is actually wrong. Oh, "here is a prescription for an antibiotic." "Oh, here is a prescription for some cream." But they don't know or care what is actually wrong with you. I still go there, but I found a better office to take my daughter to.

I have been going to Rocky Run Family Medicine for 2 years now. I have never been remarkably satisfied there, and today was the clincher. Today, a very hot 94-degree day, I packed up my 6-week-old daughter and went for my appointment for a TB test. I am a new teacher, so I needed one for my new position. I arrived at the doctor?s office, and waited for 20 minutes, not a bad wait for that office. I proceeded to go to the back when I was called. It was at that time, after waiting 20 minutes, that I was informed that the test could not be performed today. The person who had made the appointment had made a mistake. Although I told her specifically that I needed a TB test, she scheduled me on a Thursday. The test needs to be read in 48 - 72 hours, and apparently no one will be in the office to read it over the weekend. The person scheduling these things should know when to schedule. I then had to leave the doctors just in time to hit rush hour traffic. Couldn't someone have caught this before I was at the office, before I waited 20 minutes at the office? I will be changing my and my daughter?s doctor office as soon as possible. It is the way the office is run, not the doctors, that concerns me.

PROS:
CONS: Appointment personel is incompetent!

This office is usually very accomodating when you are there for a sick visit. They can usually get you an appointment within hours of your call. For well visits, there is usually a few week wait which is not so great sometimes! The front desk staff can be very short with patients and not the friendliest but it's really the doctors that matter and they have been pretty good!

Rocky Run Family Medicine offers medical care for all ages and has an array of doctors to choose from. They are located in a strip mall with a Giant grocery, so it's convinient to get your prescription filled after your visit. There's plenty of parking and for a sick visit, they get you in same day, but sometimes there's a long wait in the waiting room. They do have a small area with toys to keep little ones entertained during your wait, which is a plus.
