I went there a lot over a couple months last year. Mostly just to play DDR and watch my friends play SF4 when it was released. I wasn't a regular, just someone looking to have a great time. And even I know that place isn't the kind of 'family fun' or to take your sweetheart on a date, unless your sweetheart is a gamer of course. In the time that I went there, I hadn't seen one person smoking ever. I'd never encountered any problems, if anything I MADE friends while I was over there. People don't keep to themselves unless you give off the aura of "I'm better than everyone in this stinky place." Then of course you will be avoided. If you have a problem with the funk in there then just leave and don't turn back. In my opinion it's not even that bad. Seeing as the back is kind of closed in and has about 2-3 Dance Dance Revolution Machines, it SHOULD smell like that. It's better than the smell in my house after a ddr fest i'll tell you that much.
Look if you were looking for a place to take your kiddy to win some crappy teddy bears or something then go to Six Flags or Dave and Busters or some other place like that. This is a serious place to train hard and get better. To look for a challenge and make some friends. It means a lot to many people seeing as its the only place left in NYC to do these things really. It's not there for novelty purposes, if it was it would have closed down just like those on 42nd street its true. Its there for the people who want to have fun doing what they love, not treat it like some passing fancy.

Stay away!

While the video games are fun the atmosphere is anything but. You are better off getting a home console, then you dont have to worry about second hand smoke, B.O. or the random ignorant fools who wander in and out all night.

To all of you out there this is the Mistress/Secretary speaking about one the last few remaing arcades left in the NYC district. This of course being Chinatownn Fair arcade.

First off I'd like to mention that CF is an excellent place to be, when in training to become one of the best arcade gaming players amongst the fighting generation of the videogame/anime world.

What makes CF bad is the level of drama and the he/she I saying crap that throw many people for a loop. If everyone one would just get a grip on themselves and let go of insecurities and edosecrecies than those that harbor drama would be alright.

Eveyone knows me as the Queen of CF or some call me princess due to my reputation and close pention relationship to the female fighting characters of the fighting world. I have very few if no issues in CF cause I mind my damn business; and I'm honest I have nothing to hide.

Everyone loves a piece of the action and if drama did not exist life would be boring. Sometimes we need the riff-raff, the low class, the crack head, and even the idiots to remind ourselves what not to become. My complaints about CF are few in number and I would not have it any other way.

As an Otaku of the "Anime/video gaming" Universe I fight desperately to support the one place that is keeping the gaming, anime, pc, family together even if it means dealing with a nut case or too.

PROS: Good training grounds, Possible friendships can occur. Make good conections
CONS: Bad place for dating, too many people with issues, keep shit to yo self!

As an Employee of Chinatown fair I've come to clear the negative rep we are getting from 1-time visitors

This arcade is the ONLY arcade in NYC not out to take all your money and give you nothing in return.

The play here is High Level if your a casual player don't bother. As for claims of machine hogging there is no such thing you put your token up and wait your turn. A rule most catch on to right away those that don't well they stand there looking silly waiting for a turn that wont come.

As far as the kids outside go most of them are regulars to the arcade having been visiting for at least a year and they are friendly if you are friendly.

The arcade is always packed on Friday's so if you intend to come for a first time visit I don't recommend that day. Sunday and Wednesday are the quietest days so you can try then.

If your looking for a challenge by all means come on Friday.

For those who complain about most of the smells that's just Chinatown in general... the B.O. charge I cannot defend as even DDR has high level play and so the players sweat in the winter this is reduced but not negated air freshener does but so much

There is no smoky atmosphere in cf as smoking is not allowed inside period that smoke coming in from the outside if anything smokers are ruthlessly hunted down and thrown out. NO EXCEPTIONS.

The place is indeed an old business so it isn't covered in the shine and gloss people want to see but looks aren't everything. The lights are not dim they are spaced out and if the lights were brighter the games would be harder to see for players since the light would reflect into their eyes so they couldnt see the action onscreen. If your a gamer this is the place for you. if your not a gamer then your best off going to Dave and Busters. its more expensive but it has the shiny simple games people like to start off with.

If you want to be more serious with your gaming there are many inside qualified to teach you from regional champions to national champions and even world champions. nothing makes us happier than new players and new strategies.

As a final note we don't have the chicken anymore...sorry some animal rights person came and took him from us.

PROS: Good Games, Great Prices, Good People, Old school gaming atmosphere
CONS: Not so good for casual gamers

Seriously I'm reading this reviews and am literally going what the ****?

First off, the "kids" that loiter in front of Chinatown Fair (CF) are REGULARS and are pretty much FRIENDLY. I know most of the people that frequent to CF, and it's mostly a FRIENDLY environment. There maybe be an eruption once but it RARELY happens..

So before I finish this, lemme tell you. Do not listen to the first 3 reviews because they are pure trash. There is like 2 legit reviews. Mine being semi best until another REGULAR comes on.

If you want the best comp. in any street fighter game, Tekken, or want a place to just chill for a day, CF is your arcade. If you feel that this place is abruptive and full of juvenile and hostile "kids," just go that way >>>>>>

GGPO.
Daywalker.

EDIT: PEOPLE WHO DO NOT FREQUENT TO CF ENOUGH OR DO NOT KNOW AT LEAST 3 OR 4 OF THE REGULARS SHOULD NOT BE POSTING A REVIEW!!!!!!

Chainatown Fair is probably on the lower end of arcades that I have been to. The selections of fighting games is okay but other than that ther isn't much to the place. For all intents and purposes, the place feels as if it's a hole in the ground. The atmosphere just isnt pleasent at all.

It's dark, dingy and hot. There's one place where the AC is blasting, and needless to say - people just conjugate in that area and it gets humid and hot anyway because of the crowd. Most of the games are old - they have some new ones though some, like DDR, gather an audience - and with such a small area it can get really gross, especially when people are jumping around dancing and sweating to the game. It smells either like body odor or cigarette smoke, and the smell lingers onto the street outside. I don't even like walking outside of the place because there are a lot of kids just hanging around and loitering outside being loud and obnoxious. Then again, it's really one of a few arcades in the city that is reasonably priced per game - unless you want to blow 50 bucks on about 10 games at espn zone, this place will do. You'll have to go back and forth to exchange cash for tokens and try to get a machine to yourself, since this place is really only for regulars that has a group of friends to themselves that basically hoard the machines.

This is one of chinatown's oldest and biggest arcade games center. I have went here a couple of times during my teenage years. The place was dim and smokey, like a underground gambling parlor. I missed the Tic-Tac-Toe chicken, which never loses. It doesn't seem like a safe place to be in. They have a lot of arcade games selections though which is one of its pluses. Kids under 18 cannot go in during school hours.

I went to this place twice in my life with my brother. It's so dark and loud in there I could barely see where I'm walking. I only hear people screaming and 20 different video arcades at the same time. Many of the people in there smoke too. Not a great place to bring your kids nor is it a good place to go by yourself. There are better arcades but slim to none in chinatown.

Not a place for the ladies to go by themselves. The place is dark, dimmed lights and smells like smoke. Mostly a place for teens though those under 18 are not allowed in until a certain time during the school days. Don't count on meeting nice people, most keep to themselves or come in a gang of people. For those that walk by the arcade, it's better to walk on the other side. You must exchange money for their tokens to play the games. Might as well find a nicer arcade elsewhere.
