I??ve been to this clinic several times and each experience has been worse than before. They do not take appointments which often means waiting over an hour just to be seen.

Their record keeping is atrocious. When the doctors have to ask me, the owner, repeatedly if certain procedures have been done on my dog or if he has had a certain vaccine or a heartworm test (all of which have been performed at the clinic), there is a problem. Competency is also concerning. I had a doctor ask me if I was picking up heartworm prevention for my dog when I had the box sitting right in front of her. I said yes and pointed; the doctor looked at it and asked ??what??s this??

I have also found almost all the receptionists there to be rude and unhelpful. On one occasion I walked in and there were over 6 people standing in line at the front counter with no receptionist. I went to the back checkout counter, where there were no clients, to see if I could pick up medication from them. They told me to go back up front to be helped. When I told them that there was no one up front, the receptionist laughed and told me to go back up front because there would be someone there. When I returned to the front counter, there was still nobody there.

On another occasion I was waiting to check out; the receptionist saw me, but did not acknowledge my presence at all as she went back to work on something. That was not an issue, but then she proceeded to turn around and have a personal conversation with another receptionist about what she wanted to eat while I was standing there waiting.

All in all, each time I've gone I have left displeased. Time to look for another vet.

You left my bulldog untreated with internal bleeding (ruptured spleen) for almost 10hours & had the nerve to tell my wife there was nothing you could do. Not making him walk from the Kenels up to the offices or actually running tests on him within 2 hours would have been a good start. I've brought my dogs to you for years. NEVER AGAIN. I expected better. You let him suffer for that long! SHAME ON ALL OF YOU. My wife has been crying for days knowing he suffered that long without ANY care. You also charged enormous amounts for several eye medicines that did not work. But $3.29 eye solutions over-the-counter did. Unreal. I'd pay triple your rates for quality care. If I were as good as your office at my job, I'd be fired immediately and rightfully so.

Excellent doctor and staff. I took a stray cat there for testing and shots. I was surprised to be charged $112 which included the $21 office visit. Even so, Gaide is the most inexpensive vet in Jackson and a good one too. The doctor was very attentive to the cat and his needs. Unfortunately, the cat is HIV positive and cannot be around other cats...anyone know of a good home for a loving cat? Cat HIV cannot be passed to humans, but it can be passed to other cats. I'd like to find a loving home or a HIV positive cat rescue farm for him to go to. If you know of any, please contact me or Gaide. Thank you.

I have went to Gaide since my parents were customers when I was a child. I have spent AT LEAST $5,000+ at Gaide for numerous issues for my pets. When I have taken my pets thier to be neutered, they have brought them back smelling of urine as if they were left in their cage to potty and sleep in it! Recently, my dog had a dental cleaning. Instead of warning me my dog just came out of anesthesia, they just give me him and say have a nice day. My dog was so out of it. Recently, my pet was diagnosed with a polyp in his ear. They explained to me that they would cut the nerve and gut his ear canal. This could leave him deaf, his eye could stay open, and walk funny. Cost at least $1,200!!!! After getting second opinion, cost $600+ and try to avoid cutting nerve if possible. My dog has chronic ear infections that Gaide had swabbed and prescribed medicine. I ran out of the SMALL bottle and went in to get another bottle of baytril. The vet said they could not give me any more medicine until I bring him back to be evaluated. Office call $35, another swab $?, end result would be more medicine!!! Needless to say I immediately transferred to another vet that actually CARES!!!! The new vet gave me medicine without even seeing him, just his records! Gaide refused to treat my dog with continuing medicine that they had prescribed. My outlook is they were mad that I would not agree to the $1,200 surgery so they were going to stick it to me any way they can!! Also, hope you never have EDDY help you. She is the most cold person I have ever met!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck if you choose Gaide. Better get your checkbook out!

I am amazed at the few negative comments concerning Dr. Gaide. I refuse to take my dogs to any other Vet. Several years ago I have a boxer puppy that was 8 weeks old that had its leg crushed. The treatment should have cost considerably more than it did. Don't get me wrong it was expensive but there was a lot trimmed off. I have never been to a vet that shows such genuine concern for you and your pets. As a regular customer you feel like family. I now have an English Bulldog who has an attraction to one of the young workers. Do yourself a favor and take your pet to Dr. Gaide.

My rating is based on the experience of several friends who use this vet--I live in another city.

However, I submitted this because I was absolutely appalled by one reviewer who left a refrigerated medication out overnight and was angry that this office would not replace it FOR FREE. Excuse me? Are you SERIOUS? Do you realize that your suggestion that the office "write it off as defective" is asking this practice to commit fraud for you? You want THEM to lie to their supplier because YOU made a mistake?

Grow up and deal with it. You goofed--you bear the financial consequences. I cannot believe you are criticizing this vet practice because they wouldn't be dishonest to save you from your own mistake.

I have been taking my dog there for two years and have been very happy with her care. The docs are always compassionate, caring and thorough with my pet. Dr. Gaide is a very friendiy doc who takes the time to call me when she had surgery a while ago. They are very reasonable and they never turn an animal away. Sometimes the wait can be long but the payoff is that you don't need an appointment. Highly recommend

I took my two cats here in March of 2009 for a declaw and yearly shots after a friend from Jackson referred me. I live an hour away, but it was well worth it for the reasonable prices. Everything cost at least half what my old vet did! I only had to pay ninety dollars per cat which included a two night stay, front declaw, anesthesia and pain medication, I think the shots were an extra twenty or thirty a piece. They did an excellent job and the cats healed up quickly and didn't seem to be too discomforted. I really liked the fact that they kept them an extra night to monitor them before sending them home with me. My old vet had quoted me for around two hundred and fifty dollars and it was a one day procedure that didn't include pain medicine. They also gave me useful information such as what to watch for and what litter I should use.

The day that I picked them up, one of my cats decided to chew open his paw within ten minutes of arriving at home, causing a bloody massacre in the front hallway. I drove him back the same day and free of charge they cleaned, closed up his paw and wrapped it. My total bill was around thirty-five dollars which included 10 days worth of twice a day antibiotic medicine and for safe measure I bought two e-collars; I find that to be absolutely reasonable!

I have some good and some bad. The good is that my kitten's life was saved by Dr. Grattan. I had to bring the kitten in late on a Sunday night for emergency surgery. Dr. Grattan was very compassionate and very thorough. She is the reason my kitten did not die. I love the Veterinarians there.. all of them were very helpful, very friendly and efficient. Rechecks are free and I was able to recheck as often as I liked to be sure my kitten was doing well.. and the same was offered to my other animals... I can bring them in for a recheck as often as I like and I am never charged.

On to the bad... I do feel the practice needlessly overcharges for medications, etc. They will nickel and dime you. I had some Clavamox drops that had accidentally been left out overnight. I had not even given one dose of it to my kitten yet, it was a BRAND new bottle. The receptionist told me to bring it in and get a new bottle of drops. I was charged 25 dollars for the new bottle, rather than just having the medicine replaced. They had the old medicine and could have written it off as defective, but instead charged me for more. ONE injection of DuraPen is 44+ dollars.. you can buy an entire bottle of DuraPen for 31 dollars at tractor supply. That gives you an idea of how inflated the prices are. Flea medicines are twice as much there as anywhere else I have been, and vaccines are 20 dollars or more. You can buy vaccines at tractor supply for 5 dollars a dose and administer them yourself.

The wait is also very long. It is very frustrating the way the receptionists do animal intake. They go one by one and take their time in doing so. There is never any sense of urgency.. you could STAND in line literally for 20 mins or so before you are even ACKNOWLEDGED. It is very "la dee da" in the way they function. I haven't had an emergency during office hours as of yet, I don't know if they would have some urgency then or not. I know that I have been disappointed each time I've had to go in there by the fact that they do not acknowledge and check in everyone as they come in. If the phone rings, you wait until they finish the call, rather than tell the caller to hold until you are checked in or checked out. You are made to stand in line until it is your turn, rather than have a clerk take your name and pets name, find the chart and place your chart in line so you can sit down with your pet. I have a 65 lb black lab PUPPY who likes to bark and greet other dogs. It is not easy to keep such a large pup tamed when you ahve to stand in line to wait like that. That is very frustrating.

To summarize my feelings about this vet... I would say that if you have the money to spend and the patience to wait, they are great veterinarians.. the most thorough I've ever dealt with. They take their time with you, they make sure all bases are covered, and they do rechecks free of charge, as often as you need. They are compassionate, they are friendly. It would be a much more EFFICIENT practice if they hired receptionists who worked at a faster pace and acknowledged each client as they come in rather than have them stand in line and wait while they answer the phones and lollygag. It would be a great improvement, and I would probably go to them more often, if they were more affordable and their prices were not so inflated. It takes away from the integrity of the practice and unfortunately, portrays their care in a poorer light.

Dr. Gaide,
Please lower your prices to make yourself competitive with other practices in the area, and please hire some more efficient and fast paced receptionists. Rework your intake and check out procedures to make them more efficient. Possibly have two intake clerks and one checkout clerk working at the same time to speed up the process and lessen the wait and the frustration. Tell your receptionists to place the CALLERS on hold instead of making your clients with animals wait for them to take the call. I would enjoy taking my animals to your clinic more if these issues were addressed and corrected. Thanks!

This vet is HORRIBLE!!. See my letters for details below.
Dear Dr. Gaide,

I am writing to you regarding an encounter with you and your staff. I brought my dog in to see you on 05/26/2009 because she was ill. You examined her and recommended a series of tests be run to diagnose the problem. You quoted me a price of $250 to $300 that night. The x-rays taken on the first night were enough for another vet to diagnose her, yet you endangered my dog in order to run the myleogram. This second and very expensive test, should not have been needed. You took the time to discuss the results with me but did not take the time to consult me before additional charges were added to my bill beyond what I had authorized. I did not authorize additional expenses over $300 and feel I should not be held responsible for unauthorized charges. If you wish to review my account, it is number xxxxx.
My dog was just as sick in a few days when the drugs wore off and I took her to see another vet. She prescribed a different medication that had visible results of improvement and 15 doses cost only $18, and it was the same medicine you gave one injection for $55. According to the statement I received $165 was for 3 shots on the first visit and 2 pills on the second. This is on top of the $46.90 I paid for the pills I took home. I feel the prices of your medications caused my bill to be so unreasonable.
Which brings me to the second medication issue, when I picked up my dog I was given two bottles of pills. Neither of them had a screw on top, you just squeezed the sides and it popped open. When returning home, I stopped for gas and while I was outside the vehicle, my dog stepped on the bottle in the cup holder and ate all 15 of the pills inside. We were only gone from the office for about 15 minutes and when I returned, they took her down to empty her stomach but they were only able to recover 3 of the 15 pills. When I complained to Dr. Emerson, she asked the tech who gave me the pills if she warned me to keep the pills away from the dog because they are like candy to them and the tech admitted she had not warned me. I also pointed out how easy it was for the dog to get them in that bottle, all she had to do was step on it and it opened up for her. Dr. Emerson tried to explain it away but admitted they had bottles with lids that screwed on and the tech should have warned me about how attractive the pills are to dogs.
I feel your staff is negligent in giving out proper warnings to the clients when dispensing these medications. There was another lady in there that same day and her dog had eaten a whole bottle of the same pills. She also said that she was not warned the pills are very attractive to dogs and they should be kept away from them. I do not believe I should be held responsible for the expenses incurred when I had to return to the office since I was given no warning about the medication that was placed in a bottle with easy access. If I had been told, then I never would have left the pills in the car with her.
To summarize I feel that you added unauthorized charges to my account by conducting unnecessary tests, you over-charge for medications, are negligent in providing warnings and did not help my dog. I had to spend $90 at another vet office to get the proper medication to relieve my dog??s pain. Had this been a human patient, we would be talking to a lawyer for a medical malpractice lawsuit.

If you love your pet, do not take it here! These people are cold, clinical and snotty. Also secretive about what is in the basement. When my dog came back up from there, he smelled like death.

I have all of my pets registered at this clinic. They have helped me out in many different situations with all kinds of animals. I have owned (and Gaide has taken care of) all of these: Rats, bunny, guinea pig, cats, dogs, and birds.

When my cat was pregnant at the day had arrived to have her kittens, the first 2 were born fine...but the third was lodged into the birth canal and stuck. I called Gaide up around 6 at night and they were there for me to perform an emergency C-section on her, as well as giving me a extremely fair price for fixing her after they pulled the baby out (which he survived).

They have given the utmost care and compassion each time that we have had to say goodbye to one of pets, even sending a heartfelt card that the whole clinic signed.

When my dog suddenly became ill one day (later in the evening around 10 PM), they were there for me and met me up at the clinic to take care of my baby. Which she pulled through fantastically.

Thank you, Gaide Clinic! I will continue to bring my pets to you, especially the newest ones added to the bunch.

Dr. Gaide and his entire staff are the nicest people I have ever met. They always know who we are and what our pets names are. They even saved our dog and a stray cat that we took to them. Even when they are super busy they always keep their cool. If I ever moved I would drive back to Jackson for Dr. Gaide's superior pet care.

My dog needed to see a vet immediately because she hadn't defacated or urinated in over 48 hours...without a 1-2 hour trip away, there was no one else who who see her. Gaide saw her for a reasonable price, gave her the care she needed, and was concerned enough to check up on her. They took care of the problem and the check ups were free. They have also seen my bunnies, one of which was very sick as a baby. He was very complicated and for a while saw them up to twice a week, even once as an emergency visit on Sunday evening. They have done GREAT with my pets and I wouldn't see anyone else.

I brought my cocker in on Sat... and waited in line when clearly I was crying and he wasn't moving much while the people in front of me were getting some heartguard or making an appointment or slowly writing a check. I had to put my dog down on the bench and waited longer. When I was finally seen I was told he could have nternal bleeding or something wrong with his cells. I was told to call back in an hour. I did call back and no one could talk to me. I returned to the vet as I watched them parade someones deceased dog through the waiting room I finally saw the vet and was told that he needed a blood transfusion right away and Dr. Lewis casually told me he might not make it in a robotic tone . They took their time with the payment and everything else when my dogs life was on the line. I just knew I had to get him out of there! I quickly drove to MSU where he has received EXCELLENT care! I will always go directly to MSU. I thought a local emergency hosptial could help in an emergency but they only complicated the situation.

I have not been dissappointed by them at all. They are very good to my guinea pigs even when one peas on the desk. One person loves my hamster so much that she takes him in with her just to clean a room. I enjoy their friendliness and even though there is one or two of the vets that are allergic to my guinea pigs, they still work with them and treat them as if they were human! I would continue taking my babies there.

Gaide Vet Clinic is family owned, so you always get good care. They have early and late hours to accommodate working people and have walk-in appointments. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable, they are also very nice to all pets, even if your brand new puppy piddles on their floor!

PROS: walk-in hours, early & late during the week and on saturday
CONS: none!

i would not recommend this vet clinic for the care of a termite. I don't feel that they are honest and they try to hide what they have or have not done. they are not on duty 24/7 and are not capable of handling a critical situation they created by not closely following up on the patients.

I had to use this vet for a sick puppy in an emergency on a weekend. You can always walk in if you need to and they allowed me to do that. They were very busy and the wait was very long, but they were able to help me. Staff is friendly dispite the large numbers of people they deal with in a day. I had to leave my puppy there and they called me to give me updates whenever there was new news. Large parking area and located downtown Jackson.

I take all my cats here and have been very happy. They have a walk in policy so you don't have to have an appointment. They also work with the humane society to get animals spayed or neutured.

Gaide Veterinary Hospital in Jackson is by far one of the best veterinary clinics in the area. They offer excellent care and treatment to the animals and their veterinarians are some of the most knowledgeable in their specialties. They have great customer service for the owners by offering extended weekend and evening hours and always keeping them informed about their pet.

Gaide Veterinary Hospital in Jackson is an absolutely wonderful small animal vet clinic. They have been in business for many years and have the reputation of being one of the best. They offer a large experienced staff that will help you in every need. Whether an emergency or just routine maintenance, they are always caring and willing to go the extra mile. They also offer early morning and later evening hours, as well as being open on Saturdays.

A place that shows compassion and love for your pet. Your pet will be treated with respect at a price that is fair. The vets are always there when you need them as they provide ER services 24/7.
