Foodtown Of Manalapan

While this Foodtown is located conveniently next to my house, I feel it is unorganized and that the customer service is poor. The only major advantage this supermarket has is that it is open 24 hours a day.

Finding a specific product in this strange and quirky grocery store is like trying to locate a needle in a haystack. The confusing and narrow aisles of this old supermarket are more of a maze than anything else, and finding an aisle itself, let alone a product in it, is nearly impossible. With that said, somehow Foodtown manages to cram more, well, stuff in its twelve and a half or so aisles (yes, there are half aisles) than Wegmans or Shop Rite can seem to cram in 20 or 25. On the down side, the prices at this store are rediculously high compared to other area stores. Checking out at the register takes a long time to, because there are always lines and it seems that every customer has some sort of issue (price checks, sale items not coming up, etc). Also, make sure you remember your Foodtown Card, because they don't have a store card. The place certaintly doesn't seem very customer friendly! And don't be surprised when you hear the dairy department "moo" or see "lightning" in the produce area. Yes, Foodtown does seem to be a strange little place.

For the past 20 years, whenever my family needs to do grocery shopping, we've always gone to Foodtown.

Even though the store is older and a bit smaller than other area stores like Shop Rite and the prices are a bit higher, the selection can't be beat. The quality and service at the meat, deli, and seafood departments at this store exceed that of every other area store, and everything is always fresh.

In addition, it seems that every employee you come in contact with at the store is willing to help you with anything you need in a friendly manner. The cashiers are friendly and talkative, and the workers in all departments make you feel like a part of the family.

PROS: Good selection, not normally busy, friendly service
CONS: Narrow aisles, poorly laid out, hard to get around when busy

Foodtown of Manalapan is a typical supermarket, however it seems that not very many people shop there. Even though the selection is pretty good, the prices on many items are a bit higher than other area stores. As a result, the store is usually very empty. It seems that there is always a line at the register, however, because normally only 1 or 2 of them are open.

On the good side, this store has good selection and is pretty clean. Well-stocked too. Also has one of the best meat departments of any of the stores of its type in the area.
