I remember frequenting Java Joint when I was kid; the place was always packed and the menu was one of the more interesting menus in the area. Now in my twenties, I could not believe how much the restaurant has gone down hill. I ordered the Vegetarian Grinder, and I could not even stomach the first bite. It was sour tasting and fishy, odd since neither taste should be in a meal with vegetables. The eggplant was obviously frozen, then reheated, it was gray and rubbery. The waitress said the vegetables were fresh and had been cut about an hour earlier, so she had no clue why I was describing the food as fishy and sour. She would not void the meal, and I left Java Joint starving. My boyfriend's BLT also came on a frozen, not fresh, croissant which was still partially frozen when it was served. I never complain about food when I go out, its annoying (I used to be a waitress throughout high school and into college) but I couldn't even stomach any of the food on the plate. Take a pass at Java Joint, go to Capone's next door.
