I love thrift stores, garage sales, craft fairs, so I know how to appreciate a bargain and most of all its fun and I always find goodies for my kids and myself every time I go there. I go to Selden thrift almost every week and also to their new location in Medford. It is a second hand store so its bound to be somewhat messy and smelly, but remind yourself your not in Macys while you are there. They have awesome prices...I only have one complaint and this really bothers me alot....I take my kids to this store and I give them a ton of buisiness...I even know the managers and most employees...except one nasty teenage employee who is always in my face about my kids! Lat time we were there he yelled at my son. The time before that, he told my daughter she couldn't play with a toy (that we were going to buy) and said it was disturbing customers....???!!!???^&*& Who does this kid think he is anyway?? He should be mopping the floors there not handling customers and speaking to kids that way...This store should do a better job at hiring their employees.

Let me start by explaining how much I (in general) LOVE thrift stores. I worked at one for 2 yrs. I can't ever get enough. Except I CAN get enough of Selden Thrift. WAY OVERPRICED. LP records cost 3 bucks apiece (some were 5), half of the shoes/boots were marked over $10 (not prada here folks..)

Electronics do NOT come with their original cables/adaptors; these are all sold separately and cost 1-2 bucks each cord.

None of the sales associates could help with a price even when the record player I wanted was obviously not in working order. (pricing occurs M-F, only during the day)

About every 5 minutes the loudspeaker announced the colors/sales of the day. I could be wrong, but once per half hour would be sufficient, no? The speakers were too loud and pretty obtrusive.

Overall, the announcements stressed me out, made me want to hurry up and leave. Usually I can spend an hour or two looking through things-NOT at Selden Thrift.

I should mention that there IS quite the selection-anyone can find something, but hard to believe these DONATIONS are making some dude tons of cash..
-Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard this thrift store is for PROFIT, NOT any kind of charity. Hope this will inform you enough to donate to some other organizations like Salvation Army, Goodwill, Amvets, or any of the smaller local church thrift stores.

The supposed manager, Donna, swiped $100 from me. Details follow.

I visited Selden Thrift on Saturday, May 15, and purchased a table. The price was about $37 including taxes. I paid with what I thought was a single one-hundred dollar bill. The cashier, Danielle, pushed back change which consisted of three twenty-dollar bills and a one hundred dollar bill. Thinking she had made a mistake, I pushed the one-hundred dollar bill back to her saying "This is yours." She placed it in her drawer.
Upon stepping outside I thought to count my money. It looked like I was short $100. I realized that I may have pulled out two one-hundred dollar bills by mistake and that she had been returning one of them to me. I returned and explained the situation to her, I don't think either of us knew what had happened.
"You're very lucky" she said "I'm leaving and have to count out my drawer. If I'm over by $100, we'll see it." She called the manager, Donna,.and explained the situation. When she had finished counting out her drawed, Donna handed me my one-hundred dollar bill with the statement "The money is yours"
But I still had to wait for my girl friend and we had to put the table on my car. Donna was looking uncertain about something.
"Do you want me to wait around for a while?" I foolishly asked her. "Yes" she responded. She had to go upstairs and check something. She came back a few minutes later with the statement that her boss had run some kind of numbers and that the moiney was theirs. Like a jerk I handed her the $100.
But then I checked my money, once again, and realized that I really was short $100. I'd been robbed.
I asked one of the guys who worked there who owned the Selden Thrift. I was told Viet Nam Veterans.
So I called Viet Nam Veterans and learned that the number I was calling was really a company called B&R Salvage.Yet they answer the Phone with "Viet Nam Veterans," Isn't that fraud?
Anyway, it looks like I'm out $100.

The employees are nasty & very rude. I have shopped at this store for over 8 years, I have seen the managers/ employees come & go and they all treat customers as if they were dirt. I've spent more money in this store than I do in any other store but, after witnessing the hispanic male store manager stealing via another customer (at cash register), I am sick. Although I didn't say a word, he was so nasty with me when I was cashing out, as if it was meant to intimindate me! No wonder why the prices are getting higher, it's to make up by the employees. That's why they're so nasty & rude!

I love thrift stores, so I go every week. Selden thrift is huge, it's an old supermarket space, so I guess they can't figure out how to get that place organized? But I have fun when I go, it's my shopping therapy:) I find something most of the time. Worth a trip!

Pros: Loads of STUFF!!

Cons: A bit messy & unorganized

The smell was awful. Smelled as if someone messed themselves in the dressing room, which was 4 pieces of plywood painted white. Very messy, Very dirty. Exactly what I expected.

If you like thrift stores, you are sure to like this store. It is quite large and well stocked, not only with clothes but also with toys, furniture, glasswear, etc. Each shopping trip rewards me with new treasures- toys for my grandson, collectible crystal vases, and all sorts of odd and amazing things.

PROS: Good selection
CONS: sometimes messy
