Outstanding school! My kids love it! The teachers have gone the extra mile as has Father Breen to help make St. Edwards School the best. The facilities are top notch. The church and members are wonderful. My family always feels welcome. Father Breen performed our marriage ceremony and baptised our children and even though an early morning storm had taken off part of the roof, Father and the staff made the day perfect.

The pre-k teacher told us our child was not ready for kindergarten, so we had our child tested by two other highly-regarded organizations at our expense. Guess what? There is nothing wrong with our child, in fact, we were told that our child is ready for kindergarten now and is probably gifted. Had poor experience with Metro schools in the past, but hopefully that has changed, cause that is where we're going for kindergarten. St Edward also took tuition from our account that wasn't owed, and we had to prove it to them. They want your money, they want you/your child to fit in the box, they think their opinion is the only one. I had respect for Father Breen, but he never remembers our name or our child's name, and my husband says he ignores him in the halls, only speaking to the mothers. I am done.

I was cantor and choir director for 10 years at St. Edwards. I was let go after a lie was told to Father Breen by Bill Rankin, the piano player. I called Father Breen, wrote letters, left messages, but I never heard from him. I was devistated and very hurt. That was 4 years ago and it still eats at me. I thought Father Breen was the most Christ like person I had ever known. Boy, was I wrong.

Father Breen could do more to ensure people are treated more Christian. The former principal of the parish school was downright evil. His son died and for that many were sorry, but he didn't have to take it out on the good people who supported his family during his time of sadness. Many were mistreated, including a very sweet, talented pregnant teacher, and Father Breen sat idlely by and let it happen. I used to have respect for him, but not so much anymore. There is no justice in this world.

St. Edward's is a great school. My daughter is in the pre-k this year. She loves going to school every day and I feel great about where she is. I love the opportunities she's getting at school. The pre-k attends all the special classes that the rest of the school attends - including Spanish. They have Smart boards in both pre-k classrooms. I'm very pleased with the Christian values she's learning. It's a very open environment. We're not Catholic and we feel very welcome and accepted. The faculty and staff at St. Edward's are wonderful. They are loving, flexible, and know how to keep the kids interested in learning. I couldn't ask for a better place for my daughter to attend school!

PROS: Safe, loving, challenging, Christian environment
CONS: none

I am the mother of four children. Two are in college--one with a 4.0 average and the other with a 3.75 average. They are both very independent, caring, and ethical. They both attended St. Edward School were they received not only a first class education but a great moral foundation for life. One had Ms. Clendening and was at first scared because of her reputation. The kids called her "sarge" but we soon found out that it was in a loving way. She is a very disciplined teacher but her students love her and they learn so much during their year with her. She is also a fun teacher--I don't know many teachers that let the kids have water balloon fights that include some teachers, cook a full thanksgiving meal with the students and serve it to their parents, and have their students plan and run a haunted house for the other students at the school. She has also been a coach and volunteered for countless projects. I have a child in her class this year and am delighted as is my child. I believe that both my older children benefited greatly from the time spent at the church and school. I believe it so strongly that my younger two children are attending Saint Edward school presently. As far as the church staff and Father Breen, they are dedicated and have committed themselves to serving their community. Father Breen works from daylight to well after dark ministering to anyone who needs it. If he seems hurried during a rehearsal or other pre-event it is probably because he has just left the hospital visiting a sick or dying parishioner or family member of a parishioner or someone he doesn't even know and is on his way to minister to someone else. He has a very strong personality and uses humor to lighten situations that need it and to personalize other events. Those who know him and request him to perform their marriages, baptisms, etc. want him to do so because of his personality. Many people that don't belong to his parish seek his advise or ask him to perform marriages, funerals, and baptisms. A church with over 700 families and that serves the community in the manner that Saint Edward does is a very busy place. Sometimes the phone does go unanswered as the staff is attending to someone personally. You are bound to make someone unhappy if they are not treated as the "priority of the moment". As a parent, parishioner, former teacher and present staff member I am privileged to see everyone here in action. Their priorities are correct and their intentions are admirable. Everyone is accepted here no matter what--income, stewardship commitment, nationality, or religion. It is a community--not just a church and school--of loving, caring, supportive and spiritual individuals and I am proud to be a part of the community.

I was scheduled to play the organ for a wedding at St. Edward's church. I left a message on their answering machine but they never called me back. The mother of the bride called the church 5 times but no person ever answered the phone...she always got the answering machine when she called, and no one ever returned her call. She was only able to get into the church because she came down to the church just before the rehearsal and located a teacher from the school who could let her and the wedding party into the church. This church charges $300 for the use of their facities for weddings yet they are totally unsupportive to the bride and her wedding party. They are there when the money is paid but they disappear when it comes time to be helpful. Father Breen ran a quick wedding rehearsal (for which I am thankful) however he often grabbed the people by the shoulders and moved them into position. He was not interested in your questions or suggestions, he told you what and how to do it. When I started to asked a question he interupted me to tell me what he expected, but was never interested in hearing my full question. During the actual wedding ceremony he took away the seriousness of the ceremony and made light of it when the bride spoke her vows and was tearful, with jokes that "this wasn't a funeral." He did much to bring levity into the ceremony but, on the other hand, it cheapened the ceremony by turning it into joking matter...or by bringing attention to himself rather than focussing on the bride and groom. I've been playing for weddings for 26 years and have never, ever seen a minister of the gospel cheapen a wedding ceremony like this guy did. I have little respect for Father Breen and his secretary who doesn't know that she needs to return phone calls. Maybe, if I had said I wanted to make a hefty donation to the church...would she please call me back...I wonder if she would have returned my call?

PROS: All people are God's children and I should not be critical of them.
CONS: Love others as Christ loved the church...a lesson for all of us.

My husband and I attended this church for several years while our daughter was a student at the school. We felt fairly welcomed, initially, but , as time went on, we felt ostrasized because of financial status in being able to contribute to the school and church. Father Breen was a Godsend in the beginning and awakened in me a newfound faith in God and good in all people...I felt like he was speaking to me, individually, in each Mass. I later didn't feel that from him, but, rather felt he was more interested in how much money I could give to the church. I placed a lot of confidences in him and trusted him and took a huge leap of faith..but, he let me down when I needed him the most. Sadly, I don't have much respect for the Catholic Church anymore, because of my experiences with him and this school and it's cliquish society of "soccer Moms and Dads". Our daughter was very special; outstanding in academics, morally above all in her age group. She was ostrasized in this community though, because her parents weren't members of the "St Edwards Insiders group". She didn't have the "cool tennis shoes, or the cool book binder" and she wasn't athletic, but "brainy", which was not considered "cool" by her peers. She had several teachers that were outstanding; Linda Sacheck, Mrs. Schmitz, Mrs. LaRain(sp?) Ms. Clendening was horrible! My daughter came home many times in tears from the horrible things that woman said to her! I was a room Mom for her and she scared even me! My daughter is doing great now, she is about to graduate college with a double major in English and Art History. She has been to England twice, Paris, Switzerland, Italy and Scotland. She spent 2 weeks in Greece this past year and will be going back for an internship in Anthropology in the spring of 2006. She has edited 2 published books for a professor at her college. I still credit St. Edwards for her education but fault them for the socialization it taught her...she learned that in public school

PROS: good teachers
CONS: cliquish society, money motivated
