I also wrote a review for People for Animals on Yelp because I truly, truly do believe that they deserve praise. I wouldn't want to go on and on again but what I will say is that PFA performed a successful spay surgery on my 2 year old Cat (Moomoo) & I'd just like to let everyone know that these people really do what they do for the love of animals. They don't ask alot of money at all and they put their very best foot forward. Thank you to all of the staff at PFA for being kind, thorough, patient and professional with Moomoo & I. I will certainly be bringing my Dog here for his booster shots and micro chipping.

I had my 8 month old female rescue puppy spayed at PFA last week. She is doing excellent. The price was beyond reasonable, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I never write reviews like this, but I am a firm believer in keeping the unwanted pet population down. And they make it easy to do your part. I am taking my puppy back there for her booster shots (the first two were included with the surgery) on a day they offer their "Wellness" services. I would recommend them to anyone!

It's been 2 weeks since my dog (a 6 months old Cairn Terrier) has being neutered at the 'People For Animals Inc' and he couldn't be healthier and happier.

The people from 'People For Animals Inc' was very professionals and helpful.

I felt very comfortable leaving my dog there. Didn't worry a bit because I could feel they were really doing they best and everything would be just fine.

I got there at 7am and waited in line outside the building until they opened. After they opened the doors the process was very fast. I met with the 'nurse' and she explained everything and she took my dog to a room then I left.

I got back to pick him up at 4:30pm and there was no parking spaces available, lots of people but the process to pick him up was fast and easy as well.

Just get there early (around 4pm) and you won't have a problem.

They do a group presentation explaining how to take care of your dog/cat and then they answer questions. Very helpful. You even get a paper home with all the info. They offer pain medication for $20 but I didn't get it because I knew my dog wouldn't need it but most of the people got it.

They handled my dog to me already with the e-colar (that I purchased at check-in) and he was just fine.

He was very sleepy because of the anesthesia but he eat well after 8pm. He was very mellow and asking for extra attention for the next whole week but he wasn't feeling any pain. I can say that he was 100% back to normal within a week. I kept the e-colar only when I left the home and for sleeping because he was very tempted to lick the area. I gave him a bath after 10 days.

My little puppy is feeling great and strong!!!

I'm very pleased with 'People For Animals Inc' services.

I'm very glad they exist and offer this service for such a low cost.

You DON'T need to pay $500 for neuter/spay to prove you love your dog. These low cost facilities is just a good as your vets.

THANK YOU SO MUCH 'People For Animals Inc' !!!!!

We brought our 6 month old little male puppy here in December 2010 for a neutering. We were a little apprehensive but read pretty good reviews, and have even heard good things from our vet's office staff.

My dog had a good experience. He was in minimal pain and he healed really quickly and nicely! We arrived at 7:15AM to drop off the dog. We came back to get him at 4:30PM. The assistant gave everyone post-op instructions on how to care for the pets. Then we lined up to get our pets. We bought the e-collar as well as the pain reliever. My dog slept a lot that night, and did not seem to be in any pain when he walked nor when we carried him. The next day, he was back to normal! We still gave him his pain reliever for the next 3 days (just in case, and since we bought it), and kept his e-collar on for the 10 days as required. His stitches were minimal and healed really nicely. I was impressed. My previous dog was neutered at a vet's office 13 years ago, and after the surgery, he had pain when he leaped up (from excitement) and would squeal. With this operation, there did not seem to be any pain when my dog jumped around (yes, he did jump around the day after). It could be the advances in science, but also, I believe this place did a good job.

So, if you are hesitant, don't worry. The people were really nice and the vets/assistants were very caring. They also have a good communications process. It was a little out of the way to go there (we took GSP), but we paid under $100 (including the optional e-collar and the pain meds), and this is in comparison to my vet's estimated $300 charge. So I am very happy, satisfied, and feel good that we saved money, too.

Note - I highly recommend getting the e-collar (the cone they wear on their heads) as it prevents them from licking and biting the stitches. My dog tried to get at his stitches especially on days 4 & 5, so I was glad he had it on. It cost only around $6.

I have brought a total of seven animals to PFA - both cats and dogs - both male and female. I thank goodness for the availability of PFA, if it were not for them I would not have been able to afford getting all these animals neutered. The place may be a bit overwhelming, the people might not always be as nice as you would like and the wait may be longer than you want to wait. But the bottom line is these people do a wonderful service and I appreciate them and their work very much.

We are so sorry for Ann C.'s loss of her beloved cat. Each of us at PFA takes it as a personal blow whenever a pet is lost during surgery at our clinic. All of our staff members are animal lovers and pet owners so we empathize with the clients and pets that come into our clinic. We understand that bond and we know just what is being entrusted to us. Every one of us shares in the deep sorrow of each loss.

Unfortunately, the reality is that there is a real risk associated with anesthetizing any animal. No matter what care and precautions are taken, there will always be a small fraction who do not survive. At PFA, we strive to keep this fraction as small as possible. Our surgeons are expert in Spay/Neuter techniques, our anesthesia protocol is very safe and our mortality rate is less than half the national average. We realize this is no consolation to those who make up the fraction that do not survive.

It is our practice to notify the owners as soon as possible of any adverse event that may have occured during surgery. This often precludes the ability of that client to speak with the veterinarian at that time since he or she is scrubbed in for surgery. I regret that Ms. C. was offended that the news was conveyed to her by our surgery dept manager rather than the veterinarian. I am also sorry that she did not have the opportunity to speak with the veterinarian after surgery. This issue will be addressed.

In closing, I would like to invite anyone considering spay/neuter at PFA to call or visit our clinic. We would be happy to answer all of your questions candidly and have you tour our facility.

Sincerely,
Jane Dillonaire - Clinic Director

I want pet owners to know that your pets will die here. I am very upset that my beloved pet died here recently and they had the audacity to have an assitant call me to break the news. Why did the vet not call me! I can't believe the brush off I got. How dare they! I am so furious, I'm sure there are other people out there that have gone through this. I hope I wasn't the only one who received bad cutomer service and a dead pet. Go at your own risk.

I have been going there for the past 20 years with my pets and they are just the best. Why pay your vets high cost when you can go there for a fraction of the cost and also get your meds there so much cheaper. If you really want to have a pet but cant afford the cost of spaying then I would highly recommend People for Animals. The staff is so nice and understanding and good to help with all your questions. I recently brought my female dog there and it was really a good experience. No problems at all.

I took my 8mo. sheltie puppy to PFA in Hillside on October 20th and they scheduled her spay for the 28th of October. I was a little nervous that she'd end up coming into heat as she turned 8mos. on Oct. 22nd but didn't want to pester them on trying to schedule the appointment earlier so I stuck it out. LUCKILY she didn't come into heat before her surgery! At the exam they didn't REALLY examine her (they didn't touch her or anything, mostly asked questions) which I didn't REALLY care for but it was quick for an examination. Waiting in line took a while (I went on a Tuesday) as I got there 30mins past the beginning time of the exams but I didn't mind waiting as I drove an hour as it was just to get there! The local vets quoted between $150-275 for a spay (she's a little under 20lbs) which I thought was RIDICULOUS and Noah's Ark was a pain to get a hold of which is why I went with PFA. When I picked up my dog they'd fitted her with an e-collar/cone so I had to pay $6 more for that and I ended up taking it off on the car ride home anyway as she was driving me nuts with it on (kept trying to climb into the front seat)! Before we'd even left the clinic my dog had climbed OVER the back seat (nothing holds her back!) and never indicated any sort of pain. The next day she followed my cousin up and down about 20 stairs and I freaked out in fear that she'd break her incision open! They'd put a stitch in with about 2 loops and I THOUGHT the knot looked like it was coming out and it ended up falling out the night of the spay but it didn't affect the healing process at all! It's been a week and a half since her spay and it's 99% healed on the surface and the swelling she had is almost all gone. In comparison I had my other sheltie spayed last November around the same age and she was in pain for the first week and it took 2 weeks for her to be back to normal! I'm SO glad they offer this low-cost service without hassle! A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++!

I just had a small dog neutered at PFA this past week-- no problems at all with the actual surgery, but my dog was nicked pretty badly in several areas while they were shaving his area for surgery. There are a couple which are not that deep, and about four that have become little holes which will now take some time to heal. I gave PFA four stars because I strongly believe in their mission and am extremely grateful for their presence, but they should be much more careful when shaving the dogs. I took his e-cone off just now to wash it, and the first area he went to lick was not his incision area, but the places where they nicked his skin.

Awesome. Once you get past the hectic initial rush it's smooth sailing. I recommend getting there early as the line gets long quick. The place is clean and you shouldn't be dissappointed. All Vet should just recommend them to do spay/neuter. Who in there right mind would pay hundreds of dollars when you have experts that do it for $65 on a female cats. You have to go twice, one for the initial and second for the surgery. I went on a Saturday and Tuesday was the surgery. Very quick and the incision was less than a 1/2 inch. Unbelievable, most vets do incisions that are more than 1 inch. PFA also offers wellness shots now. This place i would recommend to anyone looking for experts in spay/neuter at a very reasonable price. Good luck to all.

I've had my 5 month old cat spayed at the People for Animals center in Hillside and I have to say I am very grateful for this establishment. I was definitely not able to afford the high cost of the surgery if i had gone to an outside vet. Everything went very well and at an extremely low cost. If it weren't for this service I'm almost sure i would have had to give the cat away. I highly recommend this location if you are not able to afford to get your animal spayed/neutered.

I brought my 4lb, six month old toy poodle to get spayed. I was going to let my vet do it, until they gave me a $750 estimate. I love my dog, but there was no way I could pay that. I admit I was nervous,b/c it is a bit of a "factory".However, she is doing great and didn't have any problems. Thank you People for Animals!

I was a little nervous about taking my puppy to a low cost clinic for her spay, but after reading all of the great reviews, I decided I would give it a chance if I felt comfortable during the initial exam. I am so happy that I did. My vet would have charged more than 5 times the price for a spay and microchip and PFA did an outstanding job. My puppy was doing great and in no apparent pain after we picked her up on Monday. Our only "problem" has been trying to restrict her activity because she is doing so well. The doctors and staff at PFA are all really knowledgeable and concerned about animal welfare. I would recommend this place to anyone (plus it's a really great initiative to support!). My one recommendation would be to get to PFA EARLY for your initial appointment (a pre-exam is required before you can book the spay or neuter appointment). I arrived about an hour after the clinic opened and there were already many, many people ahead of me on line.

This place is great. I must say I went here because the price is so cheap. My vet gave me a quote of $300 for a simple neuter for a 75 pound husky. PFA only charged me $60 and that included the shots he needed as well. I must say that when you see the incredible price difference that your first thought might be that the service would be lacking. That is so far from the truth. Everyone I dealt with here loves the animals and will take very good care of them.

I got my dog neutered here last week. I chose Hillside because it was the cheapest option. My dog weighs 84lbs and it cost $70 to get him neutered here, while my veterinarian office estimated that it would cost $330 at their office. This place seems very efficient because they concentrate only on spaying and neutering. However, don't expect to get the surgery done immediately. After an initial exam, I had to schedule the operation for a month later.
They also do other services at a low cost, such as microchipping, nail trimming and provide vaccinations if your dog hasn't received them yet. In addition, they also sell other low cost products such as frontline tick and flea medication, which cost me $39 here and over a $100 at my veterinarian's office. However, you can only purchase these products on the day of your dog's surgery.

However, don't expect to get the surgery done immediately. .

This place is amazing they really care about animals. I took my dog here to be neutered and they only charge about $40 and give all of the shots the dog needs ahead of time. They really care about animals, not a rip off looking to make $$$!
