One of the top spots for drinks downtown, the smart and sexy Thom Bar was recently re-designed. The swank new interior features luxurious chocolate brown couches, a large site-specific mural by local artist Gonzalo Papantonakis, a candle-lit fireplace, and a little croc skin here and there. In a word: chic. As always, Thom Bar attracts a mix of fashion and art industry insiders, jet setters and stylish locals. Don't miss the specialty cocktail list (particularly the Thom, a potent vodka-based riff on the mojito) and the tasty Asian-inspired bar menu, available until 2 AM. All the fare comes from the kitchen of the acclaimed restaurant Kittichai, located downstairs in the hotel. A rotating variety of DJs spin nightly for your listening pleasure so sit back, order a Thom and enjoy.

Horrible Experience

by Houdini86

This bar is a reminder of why I left New York and couldn't be happier about that. If it weren't for my present company, the night would have been a complete loss. The drinks are very good, but they should be for $14 a drink. The hostess couldn't have been any ruder and let us know immediately that we were lucky to be allowed to spend our money there. We were moved 3 times from unreserved tables and even had our chairs taken from under us and added to reserved tables from which they were never a part. We easily spend 5xs as much as the people who took our tables, since they were there for 30 minutes each having a glass of wine or seltzer. Doesn't seem like a good business model to me. The majority of the crowd was old and weird as well. This place could be fun if you don't intend to sit and just want to be there for a quick drink. I would never go there again.

Pros: Good drinks.

Cons: Pricey and terrible customer service.

Great lounge downtown

by mahogany629

This lounge is great. Good music and good drinks. The mixologist there made the most amazing cocktail. It's definitely for the 30+ demographic in New York who want to look good and chat with friends while enjoying the ambience and drinks. Great locale for a celebration with 5-10 friends.

Pros: Ambience, Cocktails, Music

Cons: B&T crowd on the weekends

Good After Dinner Spot

by papasmirk

We went here after going to a restaurant near the area. It was a nice relaxed lounge with good music in the background. Was able to get seating for most of the evening. The bartenders were great and attentive. It's a good spot to bring your date to after a nice meal. Nothing but positive things to say.

Pros: Great Lounge

Cons: None

Great signature drinks; do have a private party there and order the chilean sea bass.

by datingchazz

This review is in response to the review below mine called "rude, rude, rude" . I booked a party here and the service was excellent and the food catered by Kittichai was fabulous. Clearly you don't bring your own cake and utensils to a bar unless first speaking with management....i mean come on what is this a beach family barbaque....it's very clear to me that this person wanted to have an upscale party without the price tag. Wake up and smell the catering etiquette. You wanna play then pay up! Sorry don't mean to be rude, rude, rude but lets call a spade a spade....you were being cheap. I think this is a great lounge with great drinks and food and i hate for it's reputation to go downhill because someone was too cheap to consider what the proper etiquette is to having a party.

Pros: Catered food by kittichai is amazing.

Cons: Parking is tough in the area.

Rude, rude, rude.

by ninjivy

I went to Thom Bar tonight for my friend's birthday. It's been a LONG time since I've encountered such rude, unhelpful, and ethically questionable service. First of all, she made reservations earlier in the week on the phone, and was only informed when she arrived that she had to open a tab for all 40 people on her credit card! Of course she was stuck since she'd already told all of her friends to meet there, and had to put down her card.

I brought a birthday cake for her - one I'd baked myself - and as I was about to light the candles the manager ran up and told me there would be a $5/person fee for bringing in outside food. He then went on a rant about "outside utensils" because I'd brought paper plates and plastic forks (because I hadn't wanted to trouble the wait-staff). While I (somewhat) understand the policy, the way the manager (a short, self-important Asian guy with glasses) spoke to me was unbelievably smug and insulting. He could have been polite and empathetic - instead, he yelled at me and was incredibly condescending. Enforcing the policy itself was questionable, but my treatment was downright unforgivable. With all of the other great places to go downtown, do yourself a favor and skip Thom Bar.

Pros: There might have been some things here, but I was too disturbed by the cons to notice.

Cons: Unbelievably rude service - managers are supposed to make sure customers have a good time, not abuse them.

Always Closed for Private Events - Don't Bother

by ingenyc

Even if they do make some killer cocktails (open up your wallet by the way - but heck this is NY) - I would not recommend this bar to anyone for the simple reason that it is closed for private events so frequently. The chances you will go out here for nothing are extremely high. Out of the 4 attempts I made I have found them closed 3 times. I think they should just close it to the public altogether and use it only for private event rental - at least this way you don't get the false impression you can actually have a drink here.

Pros: Good cocktails

Cons: Closed for private events all the time, slow service

Terrible service and hidden gratuity fee on bill

by olivianyc

A friend and I went here last night and we waited forever to see our waitress. When we asked the host if we had a waitress he took the menus out of the hands of the people he just sat and gave them to us. When she did appear we were immediately asked for a card to open a tab. I noticed throughout the night that people around us kept coming and going as they weren't getting service and there was serious lag time btwn seeing our waitress throughout the night. When we asked for the bill it took her 10 minutes to come back and was holding the card we originally gave her - without the bill. My friend gave her another card and we ask to split it. Never did we see an itemized bill. We saw that our bill looked high for 3 drinks each and 2 plates of apps. We asked for an itemized bill which took another 10 mins and that she slammed down on the table. We noticed that a 20% gratuity had been added and we were only 2 people. we never saw the whole bill. When we asked for the manager he came over and was so incredibly rude to us. Speaking to us like we were 5 yr olds and never once could explain why the 20% was added and never told us that he agreed that we should have seen the full bill in the beginning before she took another card. Both my friend and I have worked in restaurants and have seen shady people doing stuff like this but never would a manager take their side. Not cool. Glad we didn't tip her double bec she sucked, didn't deserve her 20% and the place was totally not worth the money.

Pros: Great food, drinks and a good atmosphere

Cons: Service, rude staff, hidden fees

Simply Brilliant

by jbostwick

I am in love with the Thom Bar. First, the food is amazing! I love the fusion of flavors. Second, the ambiance - the decor, lighting and music all compliment each other (and me for that matter). Third, the drinks I like the selection of wines, and the mixed drinks are made well. Finally, the company - I always have a good time there with classy, fun people.

Pros: Ambience, Service

Impressive Space - Great Food

by desta

It is astonishing how a bar in NYC keeps its standard in the eyes of consumer for so long. Thom Bar is still an elegant space that makes one feel fabulous upon arrival. The dishes that are featured at the bar are great and to the point. I also found out one can also order dishes that they feature at the restaurant, Kittichai that I actually took advantage by ordering as soon as I was told. The interior is edgy yet comfortable and stylish not to mention the atractive staff that from the door to the bartendes.

Killer atmosphere, staff, and drinks

by rascal21883

I go to Thom Bar about twice a month. The staff is nothing but friendly and accomadating (not to mention attractive). When I was leaving one night the hostess knew that it had started raining, so she went and got me an umbrella from the desk downstairs! I love the atmosphere here. It is a great place where you can still feel like you are hanging out with someone without that intensity of a business meeting or a first date. It is a nice place to take a client. The drink menu and atmosphere offers subject for good conversation, and the setup is private but condusive to mingling and networking.

Pros: atmosphere

Cons: ain't cheap, but worth it

Don't Go There

by nida05

So, I read the reviews and took my chances because I had to go for a birthday party, but it was every bit as bad as other people said it was. The service was TERRIBLE, the people who worked there are as obnoxious as everyone said they were (except for the manager, Keisha who is actually mad cool). Noone should have to go out and spend a fortune to be treated like crap. And you will at some point meet the imfamous "doorman" that shouldn't be allowed to interact with the public. There are PLENTY of other places to go.

The worst place ever

by boggiank

The manager is really full of himself. This organization will not last. The manager did not allow my friends to re-enter the bar to rejoin our group and permit them to get their personal belongings (I think he was trying to close down the bar -- but to prevent people from getting their stuff??). He said he didn't like people in finance, which is a weird thing to say when half the people in new york are somehow connected to wall street. Anyway, he was very arrogant. I have never seen such rude and arbitrary behavior from any establishment.

Great place - but get rid of the bouncer

by nyny

I have enjoyed dinner and drinks here before, but on a recent Friday night I was very disappointed in the attitude at the door. The front door bouncer was holding a people back, despite throngs of people leaving and the downstairs bar fairly empty. I got in ahead of my friends, and when I asked the bouncer at the door if my friends could be let in", he retorted that "I don't have to answer you, I don't have to tell you, now move out of the way"!!! I know this is a recurring complaint in NY, but the bouncer on the inside was so nice, but the egomaniac at the front door was really ruining the vibe at this place. I'd like to go back - just get rid of that attitude and go back to being an enjoyable place to have a cocktail.

Cons: ego-driven bouncer

Great place to relax

by mirplayer

I use this place to bring my clients for EquityBanker.com after-meetings. The Bar maybe crowded, but delivers a great place to socialize and meet new people. One of the few places in New York to enjoy your self with that type of relax attmosphere.

Pros: Attmosphere, Drink menu, People

Cons: crowded, noisy

Great looking crowd

by JavierE

What an unbelievable mix of cool! The place looks great, the waitstaff looks great, the drinks were awesome, the DJ rocks. If it had dimmer lights and a little dance floor, it would be the perfect place.

Pros: Great DJ, Great crowd

Cons: Expensive

Everything and More

by urbanoutlaw

Thom's bar is a great place to meet after work. It's cozy and the crowd is pretty hip. It's comfortable and interesting. However, the service is really slow. So I would recommend just getting your own drinks at the bar. Oh! And get the Lychee martini!

Pros: Good Drinks, Nice Decor, Crowd

Cons: Service

great for a date

by millercy

I think this is a great stop for a drink when you are on a date. It has a mix of romance, the drinks are very good and it wasn't so packed when we were there that we couldn't find a spot.

A favorite..

by NYD

Though the crowd may be less glam than expected, it is still one of my local favorites, and I enjoy the atmosphere - inside, as well as on the new rooftop. They'd like to think they were a little more pretentious in their door rules, but I've seen more cheese logs on the rooftop than expected. So the "rules" really aren't even necessary. Otherwise, it's a great experience!

Pros: atmosphere; view, great music, good, friendly service

Cons: see my review!

Finally a place to look down on SoHo

by brighteyesnyc

Great views and nice surroundings. Long awaited respit for lounging and libations. Definitely worth a trip to 60 Thomson. Remember it's on the rooftop... Ask for the Plum Saki or Watermellon Martini's. Perfect for the warm weather...

Not Too Shabby!

by MoSmileyM

Went to Thom's last night. Really liked the setting and the porch out back. Exposed brick and bamboo - very relaxing atmosphere. Drinks were fairly expensive, but what else do you expect? The waitresses are beautiful but so slow it's a joke! The crowd was ok, but a little cheesy for me.
