I have been to this bar many times, with a bright and cheerful staff, and great selection of bourbon, my friends and I love to stop by. Weekdays have an early rush but calm down around 10. So if you wanna relax and chill out come by late. Judging by the last guys review and his first sentence... "I?ve frequented Gstaad a few times" clearly this person isn't aware of the english language and how it is properly used. And as a black male in the city, to say the bar is discriminating because they don't serve low budget liquor or beer is just lame and offensive to an educated african american. thanks for setting us back 30 years pal. i guess the mexican restaraunt down the street is out for it only having tecate and corona.
But anyway, if your looking for a mature crowd and high class drinks, gstaad is the place to be!

Pros: upscale clients

Cons: nothing

I?ve frequented Gstaad a few times, and despite the dead scene and overall lack of professionalism, I find it to be a nice, under-populated space to have a drink with a friend. However, after my most recent visit I can say with certainty that I will never return. I already warned my friend of the poor selection of beer, so he wasn?t surprised when there was no Corona and no Heineken. So then he asked for Hennessey. Gstaad doesn?t carry Hennessey. How about Courvoisier? Gstaad doesn?t carry any type of cognac. How about Hypnotiq? No type of blended drinks. After settling on a rum and Coke, my friend, who happens to be African-American, informed me that Gstaad was a discriminatory bar. He?s been to quite a few bars that don?t carry particular drinks popular among certain ethnic groups, and Gstaad?s now on that list. I?ll never frequent this bar again, and I hope you choose not to as well.

Cons: Can be boring.

I love this place. I think it might be my new favorite bar in NY. I was there a couple of weeks ago for a friend's birthday party, and we we all loved it. I feel like I've been to so many bars in NY recently that are way too crowded and that have been overrun by 24-year olds. The crowd at Gstaad was diverse and sophisticated (we were all commenting on this fact), and, while there were definitely a good number of people there, it was not too crowded. Beyond that, it's a beautiful space, and the ambience is great. The high ceilings are a plus, too....a rare thing in NY.

We celebrated my birthday at Gstaad on the 22nd of March and I had the best time ever. This is definitely not our first event here - we have been frequenting Gstaad for three years now and it has always been a whole lot of fun. But before planning my party my husband wanted to check out other places and nothing came close to what we wanted. Gstaad is spcacious, clean and even on a crazy saturday night there is enough room to easily move around. They have some fun cocktails. The staff is really nice, especially Jessica who is such a fantastic person. She was really nice to all my friends and me and went out of her way to make things special. I am definitely doing more events at Gstaad.

I hardly ever write reviews, but after reading the ridiculous one just posted, I couldn't contain myself. It sounds like the people involved wanted to have a bad time and complain about something. First off, I've had parties there (good service and helpful management), The bar is neither dirty nor small, in fact it has super-high ceilings and is a gorgeous space. Secondly, if they wanted table service they should have checked with the management before, after all this is a bar. If they wanted party hats and cake they should have had a house party. And what tips me off that these people don't really know how to go out is the thought a $3 tip was appropriate for 5 drinks. For petes sake, at least a dollar a drink!

went here with a group of friends for a birthday. the place is tiny, crowded, dirty, and looks nothing like the photos. there is only one table large enough for table service which was occupied. was told by nasty management that a bottle could be bought at the bar! which had no room --there is litterally 2 tables in the whole place! the bartenders were nasty and one had the audacity to complain about a 3 dollar tip given when 5 beers were bought! to top off the horrible night a small cake that we asked to obatain table service for to cut was confiscated --yes! confiscfated! we were told that 'cake' is not allowed there. they stole a small 6 inch cake. no one should go here ever!

This place is great, especially if you enjoy skiing or snowboarding, as they project ski movies onto a large wall throughout the night. The bartenders are very cool & friendly, the management is excellent and the atmosphere is top notch.

need a taste of classy nyc without the pretentiousness and snobbiness of a velvet rope?

this is your spot.

especially if you want to throw an event here, anthony pace, the event coordinator, makes it seamless and none of your friends ever have a problem getting in. have a great time with close friends and acquaintances in a hot spot with hot music and a good looking crowd (not to mention some hot brunettes for bartenders).

will be back for more.

I have had not one, but two parties here and as with any place in NYC, if you plan ahead of time the staff and the manager will work with you. I don't know what planning was involved with the other two parties. But mine were well planned, the staff not only was accommodating but went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed (which was no small feat including catering and set up.) The bar staff was efficient and pleasant. I will do business here again and again...

Recently we hosted an after-work happy hour for a friend's birthday. NOW, I want you to imagine, fellow party planners, that you are hosting a party for 45 people, have a question, and ask to speak to the manager. What would you expect to happen? 99% of the time a friendly manager pops out to see if your group is doing OK. Well, folks, Gstaad is in that 1% of New York establishments who simply don't care enough to do that!
NEVER in my life have I witnessed this. I'm honestly still amazed by it! The bartender handed out a business card and asked us to call the manager, who was in the office a few feet away. Over the phone, she refused to come out.
Come ON--it's perfectly acceptable to set policies for group events, but what is UNACCEPTABLE is to refuse to communicate with your customers during an event! If you're looking for a place to host an event, I'd urge you to move past Gstaad and on to one of the many other similar locations with a more customer-focused management.

I foolishly planned a work after party at Gstaad and will NEVER return. the staff was completely unaccomadating and rude. The manager wouldn't even come out of her office to speak to me, rather I had to call her from my cell phone when she's 10 feet away as she's too busy with paperwork to come out of her office to talk to a customer. we were 30 people! half the bar at that time. i guess they don't need the business and won't be seeing any of my $ in the future. i've been treated poorly at venues before but this was outrageous.

Its very nice in here in terms of decor, but the crowded ambiance needs to be addressed as its hardly a lounge as it is a big group of body heat. The bartenders are generous with their drinks and they seem to be reasonably priced.

If you like it when push comes to shove, you'd love this place. Luckily, I showed up early to a small party that had the back room reserved. The "cabin" as it's called, features many comfortable couches. I was surprised that the room wasn't stuffy and it wasn't scorching hot. It was actually quite comfortable. But this is when it gets bad. I couldn't even get to the bar after 11pm. The main artery of the bar was so congested that I almost had to deck 2 separate gentlemen for knocking over girls. Next, I will talk about the bouncers. Why are they there? Seems like all they like to do is flash their flashlights up and down and ask people to move then they have finally found a comfortable spot to stand (and that is hard to do here at Gstaad). Since I couldn't get a drink for the last 2 hours I was there, I began to notice how worthless this place is. I saw a small group of people just leaning against the wall, having a good time, talking. All of a sudden a bouncer walks up and asks them to move (with the flashlight) of course. Even though they were tucked all the way against the wall, not blocking anything or anyone. What really happened is that the bouncer just told them to move away from the wall, so that they could be in the center of the aisle. This actually blocked more traffic. The best place to hang out here is by the bathrooms. There is actually room to breathe here, and you might be able to have a conversation. I did enjoy the bathroom layout... Probably the best I've seen in a while. Three unisex bathrooms with no lines at all! I never had to go to the bathroom since I couldn't get a drink.

Friendly bartenders, strong drinks at good prices. The crowd was fun, though maybe a bit too large for the space. They have a cute party room that is free to reserve for parties, which is why we were there.

i think the people who are writing these reviews must be the people who work here or something. the crowd is not cool or beautiful and the seating is not comfortable -- talk about trying too hard... it's like a big empty room with some logs thrown around here and there. it's never crowded for a reason -- namely, no one wants to go there. i would gstaay away from it if i were you.

I don't know if it's the creative seasonal drinks or the overwhelming amount of space but Gstaad is always a good time. The bartenders are really talented and incredibly friendly. The DJs keep the mood interesting with current hits and some more obscure beats that make you wonder who it is. The space never makes you feel crowded like so many lounges in NYC do. The high ceilings and sleek decor make the experience comfortable and picture-worthy. I make my way to Gstaad at least once a month. The attractive people, the awesome surf/ski videos, and some of the coolest bathrooms in the city make Gstaad my favorite bar. By the way, the quality of the drinks either match or far surpass those of much more expensive locations...

Sleekly designed, with an awesome vibe. I had a birthday at Gstaad, and had an amazing time. The space is super stylie cool, with excellent music. The private room in back is comfy and chic at the same time. It's like a private living room with music and drinks. S@xy bartenders that can actually make a good cocktail are a welcome suprise. Even the bathrooms are cool. Gstaad is bangin on the weekends, and still a great place to go after work during the week when it's not as crazy. No food, but that's why they make restaurants. Gstaad doesn't seem to take itself too seriously and subsequently the staff is always friendly and helpful. Low on the snooty scale. Highly reccomended.

Great spot...never too crowded. Alot of bar space, seating, and 4 bathrooms so there is never a line anywhere. I threw a party there for about 90 people and everyone loved it. Most of them had never been there but now go just for a change of pace. Beautiful use of space.

after shopping around for different venues decided on gstaad for my birthday and it was amazing. there's no cover, the drinks are well priced, the atmosphere is awesome, and the people are amazing - bartenders are cute and friendly and dj brenda black was great (played requests too!). i had ~40 people come and everyone loved the place. for party planning, they have a private area available that you should call in and reserve (free of charge, books up), and call their event planning to give them a heads up about how many people are coming (e.g. they'll let you know if the place will be too crowded). all around good time! this place is definitely one of my favorites now as a hangout with friends!

this is a nice, low-key, high-design, chill spot. had a small party at their cabin room which is an awesome space, like having your own living room. only wish that we didn't have to go back and forth to the bar but then again, maybe it was a way for it not to be too isolated of a space.

Gstaad has the makings of a good place with an interesting theme and decor, but on my recent Wednesday night visit, it was very empty. It's a big space, so it felt particularly deserted. They need to get more people in there before it'll be truly cool.

I have been to Gstaad on two different occasions, one for the GLAAD media awards, and once for a Roc-a-Fella party. While each had a completely different vibe, Gstaad brought the heat for both events. Its such a gorgeous space with fly women and a good looking waitstaff as well. Both parties were fun, upscale and diverse- a quintessentially great New York Party.

Don't be fooled by this theme bar: named for the exclusive Swiss Alpine town where gazillionaires come to look fabulous in designer skiwear, this Flatiron lounge might actually be the least pretentious (and the only) Swiss Alpine lounge in…
