Let me preface this by saying that my friends and I get together every couple of months to try a different NYC steakhouse. We have been doing this for about three years and I can honestly say that BLT Steak would rank near the bottom.
First off our reservation was for 8:30 PM. We were not seated until 9:10 PM. Okay, I understand that we were a group of 10 and sometimes with a larger group these things happen. It would have been nice if they apologized and offered a complimentary drink but whatever, we were having drinks at the bar so all was well.
We ordered our appetizers as soon as we were seated. I must admit that the bread they brought to our table was absolutely delicious and we thought this was a sign of things to come. When the appetizers arrived we all felt the bacon was very good and the shrimp cocktail was pretty standard. The Caesar salad was what you would expect from a decent diner. We were all finished with the appetizers at approximately 9:40 and we subsequently had to wait until 10:30 to be served our main course. We asked several waiters and hosts to check on our food and we were given the stock answer "it will be a few minutes". I mean waiting that long between courses was unacceptable. On top of that the waiter is giving us some lame excuse about how he can't put in the steak order until the appetizers have been cleared off the table and it takes about a half hour to cook a steak.....blah, blah, blah There is nothing worse then being lied to with a bogus excuse. Just tell us I am sorry for the delay gentleman but it will be worth the wait or something like. We were very easy going and polite the whole time. Just be honest.
Anyway, when the steaks and sides arrive it was definitely not worth the wait. I shared a porterhouse for to with a friend and you couldn't even tell the difference in texture between the strip and filet side. Despite ordering our Porterhouse medium rare meat was extremely chewy. You pay $84 for you you believe is the best cuts of beef. There is no way that this represented the top 3% or 4% of beef in the country. I bought a porterhouse from the butcher last month and BBQ's it myself and believe me it blew this particular cut (and it didn't take a half an hour...lol)
Between the ten of us we had ordered several different dishes. The braised short ribs I was told was delicious. The Ribeye was way too fatty. The filet was good. The strip steak was disappointing. A friend ordered the American Wagyu Skirt and the portion was so small that were were joking that he had ordered it from the kids menu.
The sides for the most part were also very disappointing. First the good: French fries and mushrooms. The bad: Jalapeno mash (there was no flavor of Jalapeno whatsoever), if it wasn't green in color you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The worst part are the portions. I took 2 tablespoons of the mash and it seemed there wasn't even another full tablespoon left. We ordered 6 sides and they didn't even last 5 minutes into dinner.
Lastly, although the staff was very polite nobody came to ask us how dinner was, or whether the steaks were cooked to our liking. It's nice to be asked and in my experience most places do.
As we were all pretty disappointed we asked for the check without ordering any coffee or desserts so I can't comment about that.
The meal wasn't terrible, but with so many better options in the city why even bother with a below average steakhouse. Off the top of my head in no particular order you would be better off at Wolfgang's, Uncle Jacks, Benjamin's, Ben and Jack's, Del Frisco's, Rothman's, Maloney and Porcelli, Angelo Maxie's, Sparks, Keens....I can go on and on.

BLT Steak is one of the best steakhouses i have ever been to. The best thing on the menu is their mashed potatoes. Their Rib Eye is also fantastic. Don't get the Filet Mignon, it is never cooked well and never tastes very good.

If you are a steak lover, BLT Steak is where you should head to.

This place is a nightmare. From the manager on down, the attitude is such a turnoff that it makes it difficult to taste the food. Don't dare try to enter before 5pm for a Friday after-work cocktail...even if you have spent thousands of dollars there, they will look at you like you have aliens crawling from your ears. If you go, just be sure to avoid the spikey-haired skinny manager at all costs. He looks like he should be a counselor at a day camp, and he would probably be much better suited in that role.
Oh yes, and the steak isn't anything to write home about. Anyone notice the LA Times article that Laurent Tourondel has cut off his affiliation with the place? Even he couldn't stand it. I guess they should start thinking of changing their name to BS Steak.

Cons: If you ask for more they will scold you

I went to BLT Steak with my boyfriend on Valentine's Day. We had a reservation but arrived around 40 minutes early. We were seated right away despite the time difference. Almost immediately after receiving our menus, we were presented with a complimentary "on-the-house" appetizer of crostini with a homemade port wine spread. It was delicious. Before even ordering we were also served these huge parmesean popovers bigger than one's fist. As well as the port wine spread it was equally delicious. We finally placed our order and started off with the baby spinach, maytag and bacon vinigarette salad. It was flavorful with a very light not overpowering dressing and a great way to start things off. We then received our gorgeous looking steak, cooked medium (their medium is like a normal medium-rare, which i am a fan of). If it served with a sprig of rosemary and a few cuts of garlic herb butter. The crust on the steak was both crispy and delicious and the steak was very tender especially for a normal porterhouse. They have numerous sauces to go along side but we chose their signature steak sauce and a peppercorn sauce which were both good. Our sides were hash browns and creamy spinach. It was hands downthe best creamy spinach I have ever had being that they use the full leaf spinach, it was not overly creamed or liquidy. The hash browns had a nice crispy outside and soft riced-potato inside and is served in almost a potato pancake form. We were so full after dinner we had no room for dessert but with how courteous this place is, they still gave us two small chocolate tarts about the size of a silver dollar. They were small but packed with rich, chocolate flavor. We were very impressed with every element of the meal and it is easy to say I have a new favorite steakhouse. It was a meal that I bragged about to family and friends and there is no doubt in my mind I will be paying BLT Steak another visit as well as visiting their other chains throughout NYC.

Cons: Wont be going back for 2 months!

We were seven people in our party! The service was so bad, the table was the worst, the food was ok nothing great and to top off the night they spilled coffee down my 22 year old daughters back. Not an enjoyable evening. With so many great places in New York - try someplace else!

It was a good steak, dont get me wrong. Its really hard to "butcher" a good piece of meat so most anyone can do an average job. However, when you've experienced Peter Luger or even the Strip House, I'm sorry to say everything pales in comparison. The sides are very small. I'm not a bread person but they have these enourmous popovers for the table that my party enjoyed. Overall, I dont think its worth the price but for many single women, the place was crawling with martini drinking carnivores of the male type.
Joyce De Witt seems to like it, she was there with friends, she was lovely in person.

I was extremely disappointed with the food here. I am a huge fan of kobe beef, so naturally this is what I ordered. It was not tasty at all. It tasted like nothing more than a fatty piece of plain old steak. For that price, I expect a delicious piece of meat.

Trying to maximize our time in New York we went based on one personal recommendation and all the reviews we read on this site. It was a great experience. Very New York. Food, Service, crowd, wait-time, CheeseBoard and ambiance were all excellent. Thank you to those before us who gave such good feedback and helped our decision.

I went with 3 other people on a Thursday night about 8:30 and the place was absolutely jam-packed. We were a little early for our reservations so i thought we'd have to fight for some room at the bar(impossible). But to my pleasant surprise, after less then a couple minutes we were promptly seated in the dining room. The food and wine were great, and surprisingly the onion rings were memorable. You wouldn't think that at a top steakhouse that onion rings would standout, but they were great. The filet was cooked perfectly, and the Swordfish was also a good choice. The waitress was a little slow at times, but considering how busy it was I wasn't completely shocked. Overall it was a great experience for an out of towner and will be a place that i'll want to go back to again.

the girlfriend and i have had many a drink at the long yet narrowly spaced bar. bartenders attentive and efficient. and i have had many outstanding meals with business associates. yet one meal in particular with the gf stands out..there is a cozy inviting small window seat area that you can hopefully enjoy the company of stangers.if you dont travel en posse...its small enough that you will either take command of the couches or make friends..we made friends..the popovers( the undeniable uniquely delicious version of everyother resaurants bread) are dangerous...we decided to share a very well tossed caeser-not a huge fan of over creamed dressin, followed by the perfectly cold dry crisp shrimp the size of an elbow..then the gluttony began..hands down best 3+lb steamed lobster ever served outside of gorges bank..we all know the smaller ones are the sweetest yet the way my girlfiend went "daryl hannah" on it ..was clearly the sign of perfection...bring the girl, drink, meet new friends..careful there are alot of suits as well....

In general, steakhouses to me are "cookie-cutter" throughout all of Manhattan. This one stands out as the exception, except that it can be extraordinarily loud which is pretty commonplace. The ambience is warm, the food just delicious, and the service was excellent. One other noteable was the significant representation of young women in the restaurant, many eating in groups of 4+, without the company of men. This speaks volumes, I believe.

went to BLT steak last night in a group of 4. everything was great from the service to the decor and of course the food. Our waiter was very attentive and answered our questions with no problems. we started off with the complimentary pop-overs, which i think i could eat everyday for breakfast lunch and dinner. i considered askign for more but i knew that we were about to gorge ourselves. apps: the oysters were great, the scallop special was amazing, and the tuna tartar was also really good.
then the steak....i ordered the ny strip which was perfectly charred and peppery on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. 2 of my friends had the filet. one thought it was a little fatty which shouldn't happen with filet, but it tasted really good anyway. my other friend had the rib eye, the biggest steak on the menu, which was also perfect. i would rate these steaks up there with any other great steak that i've had.
sides: we had the asparagus, potatoes gratin and gnochi, which were all great too.
desert: the bread pudding and sundae just put us over the top.
all in all, this was a great meal and i would highly reccomend this place.

My wife took me here on a Saturday in December for my birthday as I am a huge steak fan and it was perfect. Everything from the bartenders for an apertif to the desert was done just right. The porterhouse for 2 was cooked to the perfect temperature and the bevy of servers we had were right on point. Highly recommend this place for drinks, dinner, and special occasions. I have been to almost every high class steak restaurant in Manhattan and this one goes right up there with the best.

My wife and I visited BLT for lunch this past week and it was a great experience. The staff was polite and the service was excellent. The meal started with popovers that were great! A petite filet for the wife and tuna for myself and they were both very good. We had an order of onion rings that looked like a stack of Krispy Kreme's. The sides are big, so you can certainly share. Prices are on the high side, but knowing that going in, I felt, it was worth it. Make a reservation, as we got there at noon and it was full by 12:30.

We made reservations over a week prior and there were only 2 times available, but once we showed up we were seated right away. The service was excellent, attentive, but not standing over you. The starters and appetizers were very good, there were four of us for dinner, my husband and I shared the porterhouse for 2. We would not recommend it if you like your steak medium-rare, the filet side of the steak was cooked perfectly, but the strip side was over cooked. Of course with the size of the steak we had the fear that some of it may be tough which it was. Our friends ordered the rib eye and filet and both gave rave reviews. And the desserts were also very good. I would most definitely come back again on my next trip to NY.

Went back to BLT again recently and I am always reminded how much I enjoy the experience of perfectly prepared steaks and great service. This meal will not come cheap, but nothing good ever really does. The wine list is deep and our server was educated on the different varieties available to us...always good.

My friend and I had a wonderful lunch at BLT Steak. The service was prompt, and the staff was available, but didn't hang all over us. We ordered appetizers, and shared a steak with sides. Everything was great. We were totally stuffed but still got dessert. I've eaten at Peter Luger's on Northern Blvd a few times, and I think BLT Steak has better food, better prices, and is just a nicer place to go.

Bravo!! Not just hype here. Food & Service perfect. Worth the money. Staff, room, small details all taken care of. This is not a steakhouse. Its a fine dining establishment that specializes in steak. And they are great at it. Would hate to see the typical Smith & Wollensky or Mortons crowd overwhelm here. But plenty of men only tables to be found amongst the pretty people out for a great meal at a hot spot.

When I enter a restaurant with such high ratings I often find my self disapointed, not the case here. Everything was as good if not better than I expected. The amuse that was sent out was fantastic, not to mention the famed popovers. My boyfriend and I shared the porterhouse and enjoyed every bite until we couldnt possibly continue. The parmesan gnocchi was my favorite. We will both be back soon.

This place is not worth the price at all. The kobe beef in the sandwich was not tender, but somewhat tough and the herb marinated skirt steak (that was highly recommened by our waiter) was okay at best. On top of that we ordered medium well and got medium rare. There are better steakhouses to go to.

BLT Steak was a decent steak house but there are many others that are much better. The ambience is great and better than most steakhouses. They also served other dishes other than steak which was nice for others. However, I ordered as I always do the filet and although it was good, the size was relatively small and the sides were just average. However, their prices are not average. Overall, it was a decent meal but overpriced. There are 5-6 other steak restaurants in new york with better food at the same price.

I was very disappointed, the steaks, lamb, and short ribs were all
over done. The creamed spinach along with the Hen of Woods were so
salty it was uneatable. I must admit our server was nice

It might have been an off night, but I will never go back. Besides
spending big money, the food was just not good I can think of a dozen or so other steak houses that I would rather spend my money.

THE STEAK HERE IS GOOD, I STILL PREFER MORTON'S OVERALL. THE SERVICE IS A LITTLE OVERBEARING AT TIMES. CONSIDERING HOW THEY FUSS OVER YOU, THEY STILL MANAGED TO GET THE LEFTOVERS MIXED-UP WHICH ANNOYED ME AS I TOOK HOME MY FRIEND'S WELL DONE FILET AND SHE GOT MY RARE ONE. GREAT WINE LIST - THAT IS THE ONLY CATEGORY WHERE THEY HAVE OTHER NY STEAK PLACES BEAT. DEFINITELY WORTH A SECOND TRY THOUGH!

BLT is a gem. The filet was absolutely perfect and the popovers were delicious. The $40 dollar bottle of merlot was excellent. It is so rare these days to get a steak exactly the way it should be. The atmosphere was also great and the service was prompt and courteous. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends.

When my family and I went to BLT Steak we could barely make it down to the hostess because the bar was packed. Everyone sizes you up as you try and make your reservation. We were promptly seated and waited eagerly for our popovers. My friend and I shared the Porterhouse Steak for 2 and it really is for 3 people. We barely put a dent in it. My other friend had the American Kobe special for $65 and said it was good, but not worth the $65. The dessert was standard - nothing special. The place is great for taking friends from out of town to experience a little the NYC culinary life. No need to return in the near future.

On Christmas Eve night, My Filet came in "well-done" while ordered " medium rare" The waiter did not even come back to ask "how's everything"... I ended up eating the well-done filet it was very dry - tasteless or flavorless. (nobody wants to have your people to wait unnecessary at holiday dinner). Since we had appetiziers, we could not finish the entrees and asked the waiter to wrap the leftover. The saver did not come back with the food but just with the bill. I called up the restaurant next week, and explained the situation to the manager, who was offering " do something nice for your next visit"... I suggestted the manager to get back to me with "what exactly they can do to make this up" after her talking to the management, but no return calls yet. Worst exprience.

The service, food, and wine list as well as the knowledge possessed by the staff has been amazing each and every time I've dined at BLT Steak or just popped in for drinks. As for those who would say it's too expensive - it's NYC. Midtown. Good food and a discerning crowd cost money. The portions and quality are well worth it. In my opinion, the bar is not very well laid out, its narrow design makes it hard to meet a group for drinks. In addition, Their Sommelier team is one of the top in the City.

Cons: Loud, Midtown Crowd

The famous popovers tasted like they were from the previous day and had been reheated in a microwave...in a word, tasteless and gummy.

The filet of sole was $45.00 a la carte and the sauce accompanying it tasted like the salt lake city flats. The side dishes we sampled: mushrooms, parmesan gnocchi and creamed spinach were no better or worse than those I've had for half the price.

The food was lukewarm. The waiter not to be found for the most part.

My advice -- don't waste your money here.

This is a terrific place. The food is wonderful, and the menu is so varied and interesting. The room is chic, modern but comfortable. The waitstaff is a little stiff, but not at all unpleasant. The kobe beef steak sandwich at lunch is incredible. The portions are huge...be forewarned, go on an empty stomach! I had an amazing dessert here...a crepe souffle thing...I can't remember exactly what it was called, but it is worth picking your waiter's brain over...sooo good!

We didn't show up until almost 11:30 without a reservation on a Saturday night and were seated promptly. Our server was excellent and quick, since we told her how hungry we were. The appetizers and dinner were fantastic. We all tried a variety of meats and sauces with sides and enjoyed just about every one of them. A great place to go for a steak or bbq meal!

The food was great, although the prices are abit high for such a casual place. Jeans and a button up would do fine. The popovers that they serve for free are to die for! and the complimentary bread and spread are delicious! The restaurant is on the noisey side and but so far it is the best steakhouse I've been in NYC! And I've been to alot. Go here for a casual dinner but great steak.

My waitress was sweet and helpful in selecting wine for my taste and didn't balk when my dining partner declined to drink alcohol. Lots of yummy freebies. Steak was cooked correctly and nicely seasoned. Lots of money dines here.

I went this past Saturday night and thought it was great. There were 3 of us in our party and I tried everyone's meals. The braised short ribs were excellent - so rich and tasteful and too much for one person. The new york strip was a large cut as well and seasoned nicely. The special - red snapper was a good sized piece served with vegetables and was really good. A steak place can have great seafood too. We each orded one side dish which were all excellent - I would recommend the carrots or the parmesan potatoes. I thought the portions were enough and their wine menu is extensive. I thought it was an overall very nice meal. The service was not top notch but everyone was very friendly and helpful.

We had a drink at the bar first. It was basically vodka and bottled Pom beverage (which you can buy in bodegas next to snapple). We sat, did our ordering and were given these overwhelmingly large and gooey chessey popovers... delicious but about five times too big(maybe trying to overcompensate for what was to come.) Our food was good but I felt it was uninspired and a bit lazy. I can find lemon caper butter sauce anywhere! It ended up being abou 110 per person with only one bottle of medium priced wine, regular apps and entrees and one dessert. I felt ripped off. I also felt like it was a blatant ripoff of Craft. Maybe if the LT in BLT weren't so busy making rounds and shaking hands in the dining room all night and stayed in the kitchen a little longer, he could concentrate on his own menu.

I attended the soft opening of BLT Steak last night and I'm still pinching myself. It was simply incredible. The wine, the food and atmosphere where all remarkable.

Most notable was the Tuna Tartare, Foie Gras BLT, Rib Eye for two (one of the few steaks I've had in a while that was done as I had requested: medium rare...why is it that so few NYC restaurants, aside from a notable few, can prepare a steak correctly?). The sides were a heavenly compliment to the meats. Mashed potatoes, braised carrots and creamed spinach were rich, flavorful and delicious.

Oh, and do yourself a favor: save room for dessert when you go.

BLT Steak opens to the public on March 9th and I urge you all to go and enjoy the latest addition to New York's short list of finest restaurants.
