I wasn't pleased with my "master" level colorist's technique or customer service. She never even introduced herself to me-just appeared and asked what I wanted, which was a little awkward. I also thought she was too intense and obviously overbooked/rushed. She took at best 10 minutes to slap some color on rather haphazardly. Also, she didn't protect my skin and so I had dark color staining my temples/forehead for the rest of the day The color turned out ok, certainly not tragic, but kind of just 'meh'. Finally, the water situation is pretty ridiculous. When you're getting your hair washed the water goes from frigid to boiling without warning. I overheard the other shampooer explaining to her client that they have 2 water heaters that need to be replaced. For the kind of money they're asking in Youngstown, Ohio they really ought to address it. Finally, the prices are inflated despite (or because of?) the no tipping policy. $125.00 for partial highlight/color is not competitive pricing, it's out.rage.ous. Finally, their scheduling is unreliable-I was asked to reschedule two of my appointments after I had made my appointments in advance and made babysitting arrangements. I thought my first experience was just a fluke so I was willing to heed all the positive reviews found in the DemandForce forum. I won't be making that mistake again.

The 2 star rating ONLY reflects my most recent experience with Casal's. I've been going there about 10 years for everything from manicures to up-dos for weddings and proms to haircuts and highlights. I've always had a truly wonderful experience...until my wedding day.

My mom had to pay quite a bit extra for me since I was to see the bridal experts, and I could be wrong, but I do not feel that I got any extra special hairstylist or makeup artist. The entire time my hairstylist was doing my hair, she complained to the other beauticians about how annoying it was to have to work on a Saturday and how lucky they were to get to leave at 1pm instead of 3pm like her, and on an on. I work in a hospital, and I completely understand about working on weekends, and holidays too. But I would NEVER complain in front of a patient. She made me feel bad for making the appointment. Sorry that I ruined her Saturday.

My hair turned out quite lovely. But, I have poker straight hair and wanted it curled. I told the stylist to PLEASE use tons of hairspray and do whatever she needs to make it stay in (Casal's has pulled this off for me many times before). This time, unfortunately on the one day that it really mattered, my hair was nearly flat before the ceremony (approximately 1 hour later).

Although the makeup artist had a much better attitude and was sweet and funny, I didn't feel like she spent much time with me. She didn't even give me a good chance to tell her what I wanted, which is usually okay with me since I'm pretty easy going and they tend to do a beautiful job there...but when it was all said and done, my makeup was streaky and I had almost no color. I like natural-looking make-up, but it looked like I was barely wearing anything (except for the foundation streaks).

The part that really upset me was that I went on their website and explained that I feel this was the worst service I have ever had there, and they didn't send me any response at all. It's a shame, because I really used to love this place (and the fact that they don't accept tips), but I will never be back.

Jill, one of Casal's newer stylists gave me an excellent haircut....I couldn't be happier with the results. I highly recommend her!

When we moved here from out of state everyone I knew recommended this place. Having lived in large cities most of my life I had become accustomed to have great spa options.
This place is a joke. I felt like a cow being herded from one cramped area to another. There is nothing relaxing about this place. Whether you are waiting for your stylist, or getting your hair or nails done, you are within inches of another patron. The stylists all have attitudes, which cracks me up, if they were that good, why are they working in Canfield, Ohio?? I have had 2 really bad haircuts there- horrible manicures and pedicures and a massage where the massage person disappeared for 1/2 of my massage time. Don't even try complaining, they think they are above everyone. This place is a joke, don't waste your money.

I have been a client for nearly 2 years. The added complementary touches such as scalp massage, mini-facial, herbal teas, are very nice. There is a 'no tipping' policy, but the charges for services are high enough to cover what you would have given in a standard tip anyway. $70 for a cut and $100 for 2-color highlights. I would say the results were acceptable about half of the time. There wasn't any real consistency, even though I used the same stylist and colorist. My final experience there was a mixture of their cancelled appointments without advance notice to me, with the result being a foil highlighting that was an absolute disaster. She could see it was a terrible result, but patronizingly acted as though it would be just fine. I could tell that even the stylist was taken aback, but of course didn't speak up. She just suggested that I wait a couple of weeks to let the hair grow and then come back for corrective highlights. There was no real concern that I would have to appear at work, church, gym, social functions and travel sporting that eye-catching disaster.

Would I recommend Casals? Absolutely not!

My mother and I went there for pedicure's together and had the worst customer service ever! We had a gift card for a pedicure and they said the pedicure gift card was too old and we had to pay an additional fee for it. Come on! Someone who gets a service as a present has to pay an up charge. Nowhere does it have an expiration date on the gift card. Completely unacceptable!

I have been going to Casal's in Canfield for 3 years and I am completely satisfied. The first time I went to get a hair cut fixed because a previous stylist from another salon gave me a she-mullet. Thank goodness Melanie rescued me from that mess.

My daughters (10 & 7) use Angie and Rachael. My daughters and I all have fine hair but we have a lot of it. If a stylist makes a mistake it really shows up so a good cut is a must for us. All the stylists are great about following directions as to length and such.

If you want good consistent service & a spa experience then try this salon. If money is your only criteria then you may want to try a discount shop.

I ordered a gift certificate for my mother as a gift. Not only did they charge my credit card without actually sending the gift card, but after 5 phone calls and 2 emails, I still cannot even get someone on the phone who can tell me what happened or fix the problem.

For a birthday gift from my husband I went t Casal's in Canfield.
When I called to make the appointment I thought it was a little pricey. But from the minute you walk in the door you are treated like royalty, you are the only person on the face of this earth. I was very surprised when there was not an extra charge for foiling
most salon's charge extra, then I was asked if I wanted highlights and lowlights I asked what the additional charge was I was told no extra charge if you had 10 colors it doesn't matter, most salons double the price. He knew what I wanted before I did, the colors he choose were perfect. When he took me to the shampoo chair he asked me if I would like my feet up. Every time I had gone to other salons they were very rough when they shampooed me. Not in this case the scalp massage was like heaven(again most salons this is a $25.00 charge not at Casal's), to make things better he asked if I would like a facial(most salons this is also a $25.00 charge again no charge) . By the time he had taken me to the young lady who cut my had I was like butter. I asked him if I could take him home. (Adding these services up else where have been $100.00 or better)
The young lady that cut my hair asked how I would like my hair I just told her that I wanted to WOW my husband. She knew exactly what I wanted and did a wonderful job. I will definitely go back. This is a salon that should stand as a model salon for the industry. My only complaint was the products were a little pricey. But well worth every penny.

I have been going to Casal's in Canfield for over 6 years now on a regular basis. I have ALWAYS been extremely satisfied with the results. IN fact, I have NEVER seen anyone leave Casal's looking poorly! Don't let the negative nancys of the world keep you from trying a fantastic salon! These employees truly care. When my daughter was involved in Hurricane Katrina, "one of my girls" donated a significant amount of hair care services to help out! Non caring? I don't think so. Every stylist I have ever encountered cares about you as a person. It is always a warm friendly hello when you come in.. Try this salon.. The look you desire is the look they achieve! I would not have been going this long for less than fabulous work! Keep up the great job Ladies and Gentlemen!

I've been going to Casal's since it opened but the last maybe 6 times I've gone it has been a horrible experience. They are always booking too many people, and the whole "spa" experience feels so rushed. The last time I went ( Thursday June 25th) was the worst. I requested to dye my waist long hair back to black because it has faded. The colorist was fine until she proceeded to rip and pull at my hair until my eyes watered. I saw actual pieces of my hair get ripped out. While washing my hair I saw the girl roll her eyes, and another stylist laugh and look at me? She also didn't put a town down for my neck while washing my hair so it hurt my neck so badly I have a lump and a bruise there now. After getting a closer look at my dyed hair I noticed black dye all over my skin and she actually dyed the peach fuzz on my face black. I will NEVER go back. Too much $$$ for crappy disrespectful service.

I have gone to Casal's in Canfield since I was little. My mom has always went there and we have never had a bad experience. It is sad to here other people were not satisfied, but don't let their reviews scare you. I always schedule with whatever stylist or colorist is available and have never been disappointed. The staff has always been great. A few times I have had to wait 10-15 minutes when I got there, but it's worth it when you leave. The products are wonderful and everyone is extremely helpful!

We had a ladies day out on March 2, 2009 and decided to go to Casal's for mani's and pedi's. What a waste of money!!!!
They ended up charging us $65 for a pedicure! The worst part is that I had a blister on my foot when i went in and when I left the skin was still hanging there. They rushed through it and didnt bother making sure they did a good job sanding/filing our feet! The french tips look horrible as well!!!
It was supposed to be an hour long and we spent the first 30 min just sitting there with our feet soaking, we had no idea where anyone was. They just took us back, said go ahead and soak your feet and left for half an hour. What a joke!
Im very disappointed and will not go back for any type of service.

I've always gone to the Canfield location for manicures, but recently, I had to go to the howland location. The technician was not very nice, was not helpful to me at all. She was very rough during the manicure, and in clipping my non-existent cuticles (I've never had much in the way of cuticle) she cut the skin, drawing blood. THEN she used polish remover on freshly cut skin. Then, when applying the polish, she put it on so thickly, it bubbled. When I complained, she didn't remove it, she just added more. As soon as I got home, I redid the polish. What a waste of money. I'll stick to Canfield from now on.

I used to just go to Great Cuts for my haircuts, but decided to try an actual salon and picked Casal's. The first time I went I was very satisfied and couldn't wait to go back. She cut my hair exactly how I told her to. 2 weeks later I went back for a consultation ONLY appointment and the specialist said there were a few spots that needed fixed. I figured since I am no hair stylist I would let her make necessary changes. HOWEVER, when I did my hair the next morning I discovered a straight up butcher job. I have been trying to grow my hair out for years and that is why there were NO layers in my hair, as I had requested 2 weeks prior. I HAD planned on doing some great things to my hair once it was ALL ONE length, hence the no layers, because I plan on being married within the next year. Now i have all kinds of layers that I did not want, and hate very much. Not to mention the fact that my already fine hair has been excessively reduced to thin hair. And to make matters worse, I look like Carol Brady. I spent all night and morning crying and the worst part is, is that I can't even go back to have it "fixed" because there IS NOTHING to fix. I would have to shave my head. And my hair grows so slowly, that, needless to say, I will have crap hair for my wedding and consequently will never go back to Casal's. Oh, and whatever products she used on my hair, I CANNOT get the smell out (even after 3 shampoos within 12 hours!) and have had a nonstop sinus headache for almost 24 hours. She was a great person, but after seeing what she has done with the hair that I once loved, there is NO WAY I am spending over a thousand dollars to have her do what I originally came there for. no way in hell.

I had gone to the same stylist a couple times while visiting family and was happy with the results, so I made a trial-run appointment for my wedding. The trial hair was perfect, and stayed in place for well over 24 hours. On my wedding day, they had an inexperienced girl help my stylist because they overbooked themselves and were in a hurry. My hair was completely ruined in the time it took to drive back to Austintown from Canfield! The curls that had lasted forever after my trial run had fallen out, and my hair was stick straight. I could have saved myself the expense of TWO appointments and just woke up and brushed my hair!!! In fact, that would have been better than the slightly greasy look from all the product they put in my hair. And when we tried to call to complain, they brushed us off and said oh well, too bad, sorry 'bout your luck. No sympathy, understanding, or offer of restitution!!

I received a perm at the Howland Casal's. (long hair) Parts of the perm fell out...the perm and cut was inconsistent and bad overall. I contacted them and they told me to wait a week to see if it looked better. After a week, it didn't look better, so I called them and they told me to come in and they would try to fix it. When I got there, I was informed with much attitude that they would fix it but it would cost me. I was in tears and they didn't care at all. It was one thing to make a mistake, it is another to charge me for it. I just left and went to my regular stylist and she tried to fix it. I should have never tried Casal's! I highly recommend that you STAY AWAY from Casal's if you are considering trying it. You are taking your chances if you have a bad experience. I believe you can tell how good a business is not only by the good experiences people have but by how a business handles it when a customer has a bad experience.

I never was that satisfied with the service, I have had better massages at the massotherapy schools. Was never happy with updo's or haircuts recieved there either. Rude pushy attitude as well each time. Will never waste my money there again.

I have received good service most of the time. However, I feel the prices are too high. The last time, I was there just to get roots touched up. After being shampooed, the colorist's assistant just took my cape and towel and told me I could leave. I have middle-back length hair and he did not even offer to comb it out. I had to go into the bathroom and comb it out myself. Otherwise, I would have been walking out with a mass of tangled hair! I was in disbelief considering what they charge. Makes me think twice about going back.

My husband and I go to Casals in Boardman twice a year for Pair Massages. We have been going for the past 5 years. It is the most wonderful, relaxing, and intimate time spent. We recommend it to all of our friends and give it the BEST review. We actually live closer to the Howland location now, but we still go to the Boardman location because of their wonderful service!!! We recomend it to everyone!

It was everything I expected and more! I got the best haircut/color ever--and was treated with such respect. They took so much time with me and were just awesome. I think the prices are really reasonable--in fact, I made appointments to take my kids now. I live in PA, but it's well worth the trip :-).

Casals has always been a nice salon that did excellent work, but its only improved over its long tenure in Canfield. The new, larger facility is impressive, and the services have increased to include the latest spa treatments. Its sooooo relaxing to go there for even one treatment, but a day of services is heaven.

I visited Casals in Howland, Ohio last week for a hair cut and full highlights. I have always been wary of highlights because I have seen many bad jobs. Casals welcomed me in. I was greeted by the stylist and color ladies. They asked what I wanted and assured me that I would leave very happy. While there I received complimentary head massage, hand massage, peppermint/licorice tea, and a makeup touch up. I felt relaxed and wish I could have moved in permanetly. I left with the best haircut and the most beautiful and perfect highlights! What a day! There is no tipping so that is probably why it cost $95.00 for a cut and color.

PROS: It's not just a haircut! It a day of beauty!
CONS: just a little more $ than I would like to pay

A Casal's I was treated to fruit enhanced spring water and a foot soak while i waited for my massage therapist who was just the nicest, and extremely qualified person I could have gotten on that day. I was able to release all my tensions and totaly enjoy my body polisy, oil massage and shower experience; she worked on me from head to toe and let me choose my essence so I was totally grounded.

PROS: great service, staff
CONS: far from where Ilive
