I have found the only place I trust to get my hair cut on the Mall is the Cartoon Cuts. I go and get my hair cut there if I am desperate for a trim with my cousin that lives in the area who is in the normal age bracket for that type of place. If any other place has butchered our hair they have always been able to save it with what we have left and give us what we wanted, something similar if what we desired cannot be achieved with what remains and or something else entirely that we wouldn't have even considered and it always comes out amazing!!!!!! I read the comment about the person that got the botched long layers job. The Hair Cuttery messed that up on me twice and even though I am 22, I was not ashamed to walk into Cartoon Cuts to have them fix my hair because my motto is, "If they can get the job done right the first time and save you money in the process, go to that place, no matter how un-easy it might make you feel being the oldest/youngest person there because its services may have been something you grew out of as a kid and/or feel you do not feel you may need as an adult due to how young you are and the particular thing typically caters to an older crowd, but in truth you need it and/or wish to use it, so go for it anyway and conquer your fear(s) of how un-easy doing something out of your "comfort" zone makes you feel!!!!!!" I just went to Cartoon Cuts and got my hair cut in a way that I never thought I would ever expect that I would be happy with, but am totally in love with and it was very cheap and affordable and they didn't try to push any "extra" offers on me, like coloring and/or try nmto get away with over charging me!!!!!!! They NEVER have and if you think you might have grown out of such a place as a kid, go ahead and give it another try, you might be pleasantly surprised and find out the fancier and/or more adult chains could learn a thing or two or a whole lot more from a "kid's" chain!!!!!! Something to REALLY think about!!!!!! If I could give less than one star to this place I've been I would because if an expensive place pushes such offers on people, overcharges them and botches such simple cuts for money doesn't deserve my business and I am not afraid to be a 22 year old woman giving a great and cheap place that has saved my cousin's hair and my own so many more times on my own than I can count on my own without her being there and not feel weird about it at all!!!!!! ~Jessie L.

I will start by stating that I am a man. Therefor my expectations of a hair salon are different than the average reviewer.

I've been going to Rafets, Miriam specifically, for 4 years now. Several of my coworkers have been using her longer. She really cares about her clients; she's built up a rapport with us, and she's always checking in.

Miriam does a great job with men's hair, and I highly recommend her work. She used sheers when my hair was longer, and now she uses clippers and sheers - she's great with both tools. I have never left dissatisfied with my hair.

Honestly, I don't really know the other stylist, but I've had a few conversations with various employees, but every one is very friend. It's a "family" environment for them. It's a relaxing place to get your hair done, so give it a chance!

These are professional stylists with a friendly attitude... you never get that feeling that they are 'in' and you are 'out' like in some salons. They are priced like any professional studio, not like a barber shop, so I just don't understand why anyone would call them 'high-priced.' They always ask about color; that's because it's pretty obvious that my color is growing out. This (to me) is not 'pushy.' In fact when I get a cut, they don't even pressure me for a blow-dry, just smile and say thanks. The ONLY negative is you have to bring the tip in cash. Great haircuts, fair price, annoying about the tip. Shame on the reviewer who talks about 'Turk' stylists. Some are, some aren't, who cares? Obviously one disgruntled ex-employee who writes lots of prejudiced reviews.

I have been going to Rafets for the last 11 years and have never had a bad haircut, style or color. Patty, Igi and Baha are the best along with Mr Rafet. I always walk in feeling like a drudge and walk out feeling like a million bucks. Everyone there from the shampoo person to the receptionist is great. If the price is too much for you, consider what you get at Hair Cuttery for the cheap price.

I have been going to Katie for several years and she is the best! Not only does she give me and excellent haircut, but the color is always fresh and modern. I get numerous compliments every time she does my hair!

Every major hair change that I have gone through in my life, as far as a short haircut, new hair look, and my wedding I was a walk in to Rafet's. Every time I have gone there they have taken care of me and it has almost always been a different stylist. They listened to my needs, wants, and made great suggestions. Every time I went I had a new hair color put in my hair. I am actually planning on going there again to go for another hair change. I hope it works out and they don't let me down.

Anyone that has gone to a Turkish hairdresser will eventually get tired of them overpricing you. They always try to charge more then what the brochure says. I worked for Turks.. OMG Big time capitalist, and you might want to check for valid barber or cosmo licenses? FYI....... Pushy Pushy Men!!!

I went to Virginia at the mall in Columbia. She usually always did a good job with my hair. This time it was an epic failure. I asked for shorter hair in the back to longer in the front. An asymmetrical bob, going diagonally forward. Apparently she didn't understand, because when she was finished, my hair was chopped to my chin in one length, and it is shorter on one side than on the other. I feel like if they fix it it will be way too short, so I have to suffer with uneven hair for weeks until it grows out a little. I refused to pay for my haircut and I didn't tip her. She tried to convince me that she didn't do anything wrong, which just made me more angry. Honestly, I haven't cried over my hair in years, and this is enough of a bad look that I cried like a baby in that salon. I will never go there again.

What are the people who say this place is horrible thinking??!! My mom works there, and when i was 4, she had to take me to the shop before going to pre-school. All of the stylist do an amazing job! And they still do! My mom cut my hair at home, and i think it is absolutely gorgeous!!! I GIVE IT 5 STARS!

I got home, checked the back of my head and it is - I can honestly say - the worst haircut ever (Alex did it). How hard is it to do long layers? Apparently very. Now I know why he didn't offer to show me the back - and silly me - i forgot to ask. Never again! Am headed there now for them to make it right (financially - won't let anybody there come close to my head with a pair of sissors). ARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH.

The stylists in the salon are talented but it is evident that Mr. Rafet cares more about lining his pockets with money than true customer service. Everytime I have used this salon, he has tried selling me services I don't want and jested that the hairdresser should be charging me double the amount than what is documented in their brochure. Such an aggresive pursuit of capitalist gain is very unattractive and does not make for a relaxing and rejuvinating trip to the salon.

Narjis (spelling? sorry) has been doing my hair for at least 4 to 5 years. When I've gone other places or had friends do my hair, it just never is the same.

She makes my hair look great and always gets the coloring just right.

It is well worth the expense. You truly do get what you pay for and more.

I love the coffee too. Also, one night I had a really bad stress headache and the girl who washed my hair kept massaging the bottom of the back of my head. I felt so much better after that.

What a great place!!

I have been a client of Rafet's for approximately 9 years and I will never leave. I'm with Mahmut. He always knows just what I want and adds color I was always to aftraid of trying, and I love it each and every time. I also get my eyebrows waxed there too, by Turkan. It usually cost about $150.00 for a cut and foil highlight, but it's TOTALLY worth it! I hope you guys love them as much as I do.

I've been going to Jenny at Rafet's Hair Masters in Columbia Mall for years. She is excellent with color, cut and styling. She listens well but also is amazing if you just say "Do what you want" (with or without guidelines or limitations). From observation, I'd say most of the stylists in there are great with color and the entire staff is pretty friendly. You can also typically be taken on short notice. Their rates are higher but you get what you pay for. Recommend Jenny at Rafet's highly!!!

I went to the Owings Mills salon for 4 years. Only Jaime can do Black hair at that salon. There are no black hair products. I had to stop going because the hair products were drying out my hair. Black people need hair products with moisture in it. No one would listen!

Although Rafet is pleasant, he OVERCHARGES. I went in for a color and blowdry. Normally it costs $75 however, he charged me $95. He has lost the business of my entire family!

I just moved here from Texas and when I entered the salon I was overwhelmed by the friendly people that work at Rafets. The stylists are all so talented not to mention friendly and kind. I walked out of Rafets feeling like a million dollars.I will be back to Rafets and I would be proud to recommend Rafets hair salon to anyone. You will not be disappointed!

i have been going to rafet's for about 4 years. Sean (not spelled that way, because he's turkish) is great, especially if you have a photo. i started going to him after i had a bad experience in an upscale salon in baltmore and i have been very impressed. i've sent friends to him, and everyone agrees. he's not chatty, but that's fine with me. now that i know him though he does talk to me about his vacations, etc., if i ask.

PROS: Sean can duplicate any photo cut. competitive price (it's not hair cuttery
CONS: it does get crowded, and they won't let you add tip to credit card charges.

But I would not recommend getting anything else done! Had a horrible experience with an up-do & will not go back for anything but a trim or highlights. Just make sure you specify your hair type & length when making an appointment.

PROS: Friendly & easily accessible-since it's in the mall
CONS: pricey, crowded

I went to Rafet's expecting a professional quality haircut, and I wasn't too impressed. I told my stylist I had an idea of what I wanted, and he made no move to provide any opinions or input. He seemed uninterested in interacting with me at all, actually. He didn't even ask me if I wanted my hair washed or blowdried. The shop is small and located in the top level of the Columbia mall. It is clean and professional enough, but with no special extras. My cut was around $30. I find that other salons do a better job for the same money.
