Sweet Baby Octane

Great shop and great guys. You get what you pay for. I am extremely happy with the tattoo I received and will DEFINITELY go back. I recommend them to anyone who wants to receive a quality work and a great experience. My wife and I wanted to go together, since we were driving a couple of hours to get there, and they had no problem accommodating us. I can't believe anyone would come on here and bash these guys. It's ok, though, because I plan on making up the difference in what they would've made from that girl, plus a whole lot more. D, I will be scheduling very soon on resuming my Halloween sleeve.

I have a few tattoos, none from the same artist. I was eager to get my next piece, and decided to try out SBO this time. My artist was Mike. I met with Mike one Friday afternoon, and showed him what I was looking for. We scheduled an appointment for a later Friday afternoon to do the actual tattoo.

It took a while (a LONG while) to get Mike's interpretation of my idea to jive with what I truly wanted, but he was great about working with me, and redrawing, and redrawing, and REDRAWING the piece until I was satisfied with the result. Mike never showed discouragement or frustration when he showed me his latest modification, and I told him to rework the design again. He really was patient and gracious.

My actual tattoo is exactly what I wanted and expected. Mike's technique is unusually tolerable. I was not uncomfortable the entire time I was under the needle. His lines are flawless, the fill is without blemish, and the design itself is definitely *ME*.

Incidentally, in the middle of our session, Mike confessed to me that I wasn't actually scheduled for the tattoo that evening. My appointment was supposed to have been only for finalizing the artwork, with the intention of scheduling the real tattoo appointment for a later date. The mistake was completely *MINE*, not his. And even though I did not have an actual appointment for the tattoo that night, he saw how eager I was to get my ink, and he accommodated me despite the fact that I wasn't booked for that evening. That is some real professionalism.

Mike will be the first, and likely ONLY tattoo artist I visit regularly. I am already conjuring up my next piece, and I don't want to go anywhere else.

I had a great experience at SBO just before the holidays. Rev dice did amazing work on my right calf and I am headed back to have lots more work done very soon. I live in Detroit and drive a truck for a liveing and make special trips now just to git tattoos.

everything was great the art was better than what i saw in my head .... just wish i didn't have to wait so long to get an appointment (not a bad sign though - would rather have a good artist who is in demand than some crappy work done just cause you can do a walk in, right?)

D-Willy at Sweet Baby Octane is worth every needle stroke! I spent years in Columbus admiring his craft on my friends. When the day came to get my half-sleeve he was very professional and creative in adapting my 2D drawn idea into a tattoo on a 3D surface. ME! DWilly also did two touch-up sessions for free on my shoulder where MY skin had trouble accepting the ink, now it looks fantastic. I now live in Seattle, where ink seems to be a state requirement. I get compliments on my work all the time. Even during an ink discussion at Pikes Market Place with a random admirer, they knew of Sweet Baby Octane. We will be flying back to Ohio for any more work on my wife or myself because DWilly DELIVERS!

I recently has an excellent experience while getting a tattoo from Rev Dice at Sweet Baby Octane. I had been thinking about an intricate Celtic Knot design, interlaced with ravens for several years.
Rev. Dice was able to create a work of art that brought my vision to life. He was very professional and had great insights on how to improve the design. He executed it perfectly and I love the tattoo. I highly recommend him and the shop. It was a great experience and I will definitely be back for my next tattoo. Also, a very cool shop and great atmosphere.

The location is cool, the shop is even cooler and the guys are the coolest guys you'll ever meet. Extremely professional, the shop is decked out and clean as a whistle. Any concerns or inhibitions are left at the door because the minute you walk in, your made to feel welcomed. Mike G tattoos me and what can I say? He's amazing. A true artist and professional. He loves what he does and accepts no less than perfection. A guy that can grab a pen and free hand the most amazing stuff I've ever seen is the guy that keeps me coming back for more. Mike has done a few of my tattoos and every one of them is more beautiful and more perfect than I could have ever imagined. It is an honor to wear his work. Mike, you are awesome. When you come to the shop, ask for Mike G. He has done some great work on me for almost 3 years now. I have a hand drawn butterfly that looks as good as it did 3 years ago and a huge backpiece that I love. He is a perfectionist so you will love what you have forever. He's now doing an entire leg piece for me, again all hand drawn, and I love it. It's amazing because I can tell him what I want and he can somehow draw it exactly .
Everyone at the shop is great and very friendly and I always look forward to tattoo day. Definately worth it and I recommend you see Mike. You won't be disapointed

Great shop, clean, private, friendly artists.. BUT... hands down, best in town, Mike Gombeda!! GREAT lines, GREAT eye, GREAT price, GREAT artist!! He did a back piece for me that is absolutely beautiful. My ideas were kindof off the wall and random and he made it work beautifully. There are so many tattoo artists in town that just want to make a buck and dont really care what their work looks like or will look like in 10 or 20 years. He is passionate about what he does and it really shows in his work, he considers everything!!! Mike will NOT disapoint.

So I never do this, but I honestly felt so compelled to write a review on here for this place. It just blew my mind in every way.

This was my first tattoo and I had narrowed it down to Sweet Baby Octane and another place in Columbus that most every is familiar with. I wrote both places initially but it was D's quick and kind response that won me over (and their work of course!)

When I met up with him and discussed my ideas I knew that I had made the right choice. He sent me a sketch of everything we talked about that literally was a step further to what I had in mind. This concept had probably about 5 ideas and I was honestly doubting that D would be able to fit everything in without it looking like a jumbled mess. No way! It was so cool, I could not wait to have it done. And when he told me the price.. I thought he was kidding! I was expecting to spend at least 200 dollars more than what he quoted.

On tattoo day I was really nervous, but he made me feel completely at ease and when he started I honestly could barely feel it. When we were finished I had honestly one of the most perfect, creative, and colorful tattoos I have ever seen in my entire life. After healing the colors even got brighter! (if thats even possible) I have gotten a billion compliments about the design and I cant stop looking at it myself, haha.

So, don't miss out on this place. I will be going back and I have told all my friends about D and Sweet Baby Octane. I know theres some other places that probably do pretty good work, but, I can assure you, theres no one who can even touch what D does at Sweet Baby Octane. I'm not even kidding!

Well, I had thought long and hard about what tattoos would be my first...after all, I don't say anything that I don't mean, and tattoos should represent something about you; it should speak to your qualities in microcosm...

...and admittedly, as much time as I spent thinking about what it was I wanted, I spent that much time, or more, thinking about where to go. And lets face it, if you're reading this, you live in the metro CBus area or your near enough to be considering Sweet Baby Octane; and you've heard of the other joints out there [and I don't say anything to slight those other places, I'm sure there are quality artists out there that do great work and have nice shops]. But, for that matter, I'll only spend my time and my money in ONE tattoo studio in Columbus: Sweet Baby Octane.

From the moment you walk up the stairs and through the doorway, this place speaks to you with an amazing vibe. It's a little bit metal, a little bit voodoo and a whole lot D. Willy [the owner and one of the two tattoo artists]. There is plenty to feast your eyes upon in this small shop [although it's every bit as big as it needs to be]. As you're waiting for either D. or Reverend Dice to be ready for your time slot, you can read a mag, look at some of the great artwork, or just chill listening to some great music.

When it's time to get to work, D. and Rev. are all about it.
They listen to everything you have to say, and definitely call upon their talents and their years of experience in making sure that the skin art they are about to create for you will be exactly what you want. For example, these first tattoos of mine were a pair of Kanji on my triceps. D. and Rev. both consulted with each other to make certain that the placement, the alignment, the size was right and proportionate in an effort to get it right. How is that for taking your art and craft seriously?

And above that, D. and Rev. are great and interesting guys. Let's face it, you can go anywhere and get some ink slapped on your skin, but it takes someplace special to get quality skin art, a great atmosphere, great conversation and, above all else, have it done by great people. And to that extent, that's what I was waiting for...a place where I knew I could go and be treated right and have a great experience. And if that sounds like what you're looking for, you shouldn't think about going anywhere else.

Truth be told, I had narrowed my field of tattoo studios down to three, prior to going to SBO. And without naming names, I emailed all three places. Only one returned my email, and in so doing made an impression on me with their sincerity and professionalism, and that was Sweet Baby Octane.

I'm writing this for two reasons; first, I know there are those out there who were just like me looking for a great studio, and I hope this review helps. Second, I wish Sweet Baby Octane all the best for the quality work and kindness they extended to me. In writing this review I have but one reservation: I don't want their business to grow so large that I have a hard time getting back in...they are THAT good!

Let me say, I did my research before I went to Sweet Baby Octane, and the proof is in the pudding....My daughter & I wanted to get matching tat's. We had a symbolic reason for it as we both love the song "Amazing Grace", but specifically the Chris Tomlin version. This song has substantial meaning & we want the world to know God saved us both. The sterotype of tatoo shops is rough, attitude guys who don't speak. NOPE!! Dan & D made our experience a wonderful one. Dan (who did both our tats) makes you feel like he's known you forever & makes it very clear, he wants you to leave satisfied....and we did and then some. D's daughter helps run the shop & what an amazingly wonderful girl she is. She also sat w/ us (cause let's face it a tatoo doesn't tickle) and made us feel at ease. Just an awsome experience. I hope that God continues to bless them & their business cause their just awsome guys!!! Whether your someone getting your millionth tat or two girls like us getting their first.....doesn't matter, it's all the same to them :)

d is wonderful. i've had tons of work done by him at this point, and i'm getting tons more. if i ever come in with an unrealistic idea for a tattoo (my arms are tiny.. only so much can fit...), he never says "no way" and always figures out a way to make it work. everyone at the parlor is always professional and personable, and i never have weirdos walking in on me while i'm getting worked on (this is much more important than you might realize). plus, he doesn't make fun of me if i need a break because i'm a giant pussbag!

D Willy is an excellent artist. He gave me a half sleeve that everyone loves. He can do black and gray very well but is known for his colors. I got some of both. The detail he can include is ridiculous. I paid a grand for my half sleeve which is very reasonable for size, color, detail, time and how amazing it is. I will definitely go back there again. The shop is awesome and he's very clean and fun to work with. Drop him an email and visit the shop.

I went there to get work done on a preexisting tattoo that didn't quite meet my standards. Not only did Dwilly work to fit me in, but when I got there everyone was super nice and Dwilly did an awesome job finishing off my tattoo. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning for future work.

I got a Bruce Springsteen portrait from the 70's on my arm at Sweet Baby octane. J Michael was the artist and he did a phenomenal job. The shop is very eclectic and has a nice vibe. The place is also very clean and relaxed. I would definitely recommend this shop and J Michael to anyone that is interested in getting a tattoo. You really get a piece of art when you get your work done at Sweet Baby Octane.

so i went in on sat. at 5 to get 5 stars down my side, thats a whole lotta straight lines on the rib cage. and i must say d did a hella great job! he was nice personable, very professional, and really clean!. i love my tattoo and i will be back there again i know it! if i were you i would GO HERE! He had the best price in town and he did such great work i was really impressed. I've been telling my friends about him, and some of my family, i know that i'll be back to get some more.

i was referred to D. by a girlfriend. i went in for a consult first and he drew me up a rough sketch. when i came back to get the work, he was very professional, yet personable and had drawn up a great tattoo with all the things we talked about. he was very good at making suggestions about how it would fit with other tattoos i already have and color. i love my new ink and will def be back again.

I was actually referred to Sweet Baby Octane by my parents- haha. They have both gotten inked by D. Willy, and now I'm proud to say so have I. He took my idea and made it even better. Great interpretation of my idea and fantastic attention to detail! I was amazed with D Willy's ability to connect with my personality and then translate it into beautiful body art. When I came into the studio I was apprehensive as I was there to have a previous tattoo covered. I wanted something totally different than what I was currently sporting and I didn't want ANY remnants of my old tat left behind. I needed something exclusively for me that tells a story about who I was, who I am and who I wish to evolve into in the future. D took that information, a few of my sample photos, listened to my story and created what I consider to be a masterpiece. Not only was the artist an amazing person, creator and visionary.... THE STUDIO WAS FAB! Thanks for your great work and great personality! Wonderful experience....

Very comforting atmosphere in the shop. D.'s touch is amazing. He is very delicate in his touch but hardcore in his art. I love the vibrant colors and the fine details. Mastermind of illusions. He works very hard at making sure the customer is happy with the piece. His pricing is fair and reasonable. I will never have another artist ink me besides D. He is the best at what he does! I must say that I have been very impressed with the overall quality with Sweet Baby Octane. I love everything from their creative shop deco to the actual tattoo work. D. Willy and J. Michael are both very talented artists. I have many many hours and several sessions of work done on my FULL back piece and I am extremely pleased with the results. If I could post pictures, I would! I also want to point out that they are clean and safe. So if it's your first time, or you're a veteran canvas, you will definately want to check them out!

Sweet Baby Octane is a world class shop with highly talented, down-to-earth artists. D Willy and J are stand up guys that don't take their work lightly. I have 6 peices inked by J and I'm always pleased, I've also sent roughly 6 of my friends their way to get work and have seen nothing but top notch artwork as a result. There's none of the b.s. you might find at other shops, these guys don't tear down other artists or artwork, they let their work speak for itself. The shop is a laidback environment, newcomers will feel at ease and entertained. I wish I didn't like their work so much because I'm starting to look like a circus freak.

DWilly is not only an amazing artist, entrepreneur, and business owner, but a all around good guy. Behind the bad-ass demeanor is someone who will shoot you straight about what good tattoo art really is, all the while treating you with the dignity and respect that is void in a lot of your everyday tattoo studios. I personally have 2 award winning caliber sleeves that reflect just a a bit of D's talents. Sweet Baby Octane is as good as it gets for custom tattooing.

First and foremost: D is the man. I have had several pieces done by him and EVERY single one is perfect. Unlike most people, visible ink is expected and almost required in my line of work. I have traveled the country and compared my ink with some very famous ink'd people and always draw compliments and remarks such as "you got that in COLUMBUS?!?" One example of that is when Saving Jane played on the Regis and Kelly show not only did I proudly wear a "Sweet Baby Octane" shirt for millions of people to see (BTW.... You're welcome for that D!) the lovely and beautiful Kelly Rippa (who is a fan of ink herself) commented on how much she liked 'em.

D is a world class artist and a classy guy as well. I have sent several friends to him and always hear back from them thanking me for recommending him . He treats you with respect, works with your ideas and is a pro form the word go. I have a lot of straight line work and some HEAVY shaded stuff and D handles all of it with ease. When I ventured below the elbow for my first "job stopper" tattoo D was the only artist I considered. Sweet Baby Octane: the only game in town.

I have been getting work done from D.Willy, almost monthly, for the past year as he is working on completing both sleeves and I have zero compliants. D.Willy is an incredible artist, makes you feel very comfortable given the amount of pain one feels and has a very clean shop. Back in the 90's, I went to a handful of different artists in town, two of which were "big" names and they do not even come close to D.'s light hand. Honestly, there are times I dont feel the needles at all. D's color is so bright and vibrant, I swear it almost glows! I could not be happier as he also offers a very fair price for top notch work. I highly recommend D.Willy, in fact, I will never be tattooed by anyone else again!!

i got my first tattoo from D in 2004. i always swore they weren't for me until i went with my husband to get his back piece done. i knew that if i was goin to trust anyone to put something permanent on my body it would be done by D. he does amazing work! the colors are so bright and i never have to worry about fading or jacked up lines. i would not let any one of my friends or family go anywhere other than to Sweet Baby Octane for their work. your body is a temple and only the best artists should have reign over what goes on it.

The work I have done by D.Willy is the most complimented out of all of my work. The designs are very cool but it's D's clean lines and distinct coloring that also attract a lot of attention. The tattoos D has done for me are over 4 years old but they are just as bold as the day I got them. This guy knows what he's doing. I have had the great pleasure of D Willy and J Michael work on several pieces on me. From major pieces to a current sleeve they are true masters. They are the only artists I have referred to my friends and family for work. I like that all of their work is custom and they take the time to work out all the details to make each piece a work. The shop is always extremely clean. I just can?t say enough good things about this shop.

I could rant all night about how great this shop is, but I will keep it short. Not only are the artist top notch but the atmosphere is an experience in itself. The shop is Surgically clean and the artist are very respectful of their clients wishes. The waiting room I would call a rockabilly tiki culture art gallery, there are comfortable chairs but I doubt you will sit long due to all the cool art to peruse. The tattoo experience is different here due to the fact that both the artist have broad vocabularys and their intellegence makes for interesting conversation, with a dash of sass, topics broached can range from zombie flicks, to subprime mortgages. If you want a tattoo experience that wont leave you regretting and wanting a cover up check out SWEET BABY OCTANE (tell them the mayor sent you)

Short and sweet: Been to dozens of shops in dozens of states and have come across lots of attitude, arrogance and consultation fees. LIVE ON CAMPUS WITH NO CAR? TAKE A CAB, YOU'LL STILL SPEND WAY LESS THAN AT A SHOP AROUND CAMPUS, they feed on students!!! This shop, Sweet Baby Octane, out ranks them all. Courteous and professional service, minus the arrogance. Clean environment. Remarkable art with solid color that sticks. Original and custom work by the vivid imaginative minds of D. Willy and J. MIchael. Visit this shop and you'll never visit another. I'll make the drive, whatever the distance, to be tattooed by either....End of Interview.

Showed up for some tattoo work, but I left with much more. These guys go out of there way to make their customers feel welcome and relaxed. The artwork is unmatched and the friendly environment almost makes you forget that you're being poked with small needles. I will DEFINITELY be going back.

I've had 4 large pieces done in about 10 months if that doesn't say enough about my dedication to Sweet Baby Octane I don't know what else would.....The service is wonderful, always a great conversation, and some of the most amazing Artwork and Ink Iv'e ever seen. Sweet Baby Octane is an amazing shop, ran by an amazing team of artists. Both, D. Willy and J. Michael Taylor are artists comparable to none. The line work and color done by D. Willy is the best that I have seen. His pieces are flawless, his art is original, and his level of expertise is immeasurable. D. has done large pieces on my back, arms, shoulders, neck. He goes above and beyond to make you comfortable during your time in the shop. Bring your words, your style, your images, art, photos, whatever.., and the guys at Sweet Baby Octane can transform your ideas into the perfect tattoo for you. These guys can pull an image out of your imagination, and draw it 10 times better on a piece of paper!
