I have been a patient of Dr Blackburn for years- I have left (because of location and office staff) and come back because I know she will listen to me and take good care. The office is awful. . . the phones are supposed to go on at 8:00am - sometimes they get around to it around 8:30- Ive shown up for appointments they say are the next day- your on hold forever, one time they called in a Rx for me and put it under the wrong name- mostly I feel back for Dr Blackburn- its really too bad- she is wonderful-i had a neck injury once and she personally walked me to the PTs office and filled them in- (same building) maybe that is why the wait it long BUT when it comes to your medical care that is what you want. Ive moved all over this city and will continue to make the drive to see her . . . she is wonderful.

I visited Towson Medical Associates for the first time just to have a physical. I have a Doctor but chose to visit their location since my doctor was full for the month.
The Administrative staff is HORRIBLE. I spoke with a young lady to let her know that I would be exactly 20 mins late, but first wanted to confirm that it would be alright before I made the journey from my home. The young lady placed me on hold and returned to say that it would be alright. I AGAIN confirmed with her that my arrival time would be 9:20 am and she AGAIN confirmed that it would not be a problem. I arrived at 9:20 as promised, was greeted by staff, and signed in. I waited approximately 20-30 minutes, only to be told that I would have to reschedule. The young lady that I spoke with hadn't followed through on our conversation so it left me standing there at the front desk trying to defend myself and explain what happened. The young lady never spoke up. She instead had to be called to the front to face me, by another staff person. She denied having the 9:20 conversation with me.
The unprofessionalism shocked and embarrassed me.

However, after speaking with the Office manager who is AMAZING (professional, personable, competent, etc) and knows exactly what to say, I am convinced that it's just the one bad apple!

Please get names when you call, you may need it later and it helps management out alot when you're treated like crap ;)

I have been seeing Dr DiPietro for over 10 years but I am looking for a new doctor. Not because of anything he did, but his office is run by morons. I had an appointment scheduled for 8am tomorrow. I even had the little appointment card they gave me. I am glad I called to confirm - they said my appointment was at 2pm. Hey they have a new computer system so I have to deal with it! Awful poor customer service. They gave my appointment away and now I have to lump it. I had to reschedule for next Friday, but I could not get the first appointment so I will probably have to wait 90 mins for some senior citizen before me who talks a lot to finally let the doctor see the rest of his patients.

First we'll start with the woman who does the referrals. Several times I have visited during work hours and have had to be referred. On those occasions I have stood and waited an average of 30 minutes while Maria finished personal phone calls (honestly -- I could hear what she was saying) or completely ignored me. On three occasions, I have had to call from the referred doctor's offices because the paperwork wasn't right.

Speaking of the phones, good luck with that. Many times I call and am put on hold for over five minutes (at which point I just hang up -- it's a lost cause.) This morning I tried to call for an hour and a half and finally I walked in. There were three people in the waiting room. I asked if there was something wrong with the phones and was told that they were very busy. Except I didn't hear the phone ring once while I was there. Hmm... is someone deliberately not taking the phones off voice mail?

Some of the doctors are really good, but I've had a few experiences with some that cause me to think they're in it just for the money. Two of them came across as complete pompous jerks who couldn't believe I would have the audacity to ask questions -- or in one case, refuse to continue taking the drugs that were prescribed, which made me feel worse than I did when I came in and caused serious side effects.

I'm moving on.

On my first visit I was asked if I wanted to 'donate' a 'voluntary annual practice fee' to cover 'administrative costs'. It is voluntary because insurance companies will not allow them to require that.

Additionally I went in with a serious problem that they did not test for, and referred me back to the doctor that sent me there in the first place.

I will never go there again. I'd do better diagnosing and caring for myself.

The doctors are fabulous. They actually take the time to listen to you when you are talking. Some doctors flip through your chart while you're talking or you get a brisk "uh huh". But at Towson Medical, they sit down, look at you, and let you say what you have to say. That is a big deal to me. They also value your input. So if you say, "do you think I could have xyz," they actually consider it or explain why they don't think so. Other doctors get defensive or don't want to take the time to explain.
Their office staff is a different story. They are extremely rude and hard to get a hold of. I needed my records transferred for school and they never returned my calls. I actually had to drive over there and stand at the counter until they would help me. The office staff is really the worst.

I have visited this place for years, everyone is very friendly and professional. They care most about the patient and provided everything that a patient could expect. Sometimes the doctors are so busy that you have to wait for a long time. I personally recommend this place and make the apointment as early as possible, as you need to make sure you get the service to cure your in time.

PROS: Professional
CONS: Need more staff

I love the doctors at Towson Medical Associates - every one I have seen has been friendly and knowledgeable and has taken the time to thoroughly discuss my care and any concerns I may have. The office staff is a different issue - they are abrupt, often unfriendly, and hard to reach. It can take days and lots of phone calls to get test results, which is very frustrating. However, I stay with the practice because of the doctors, so if you are prepared to be patient, this is a good office.
