They help the struggling artist understand the maze of commitments, contracts, and potential pitfalls. Before you sign anything, contact them for help. If you need to learn anything, from how to copyright a design, ink a licensing deal for some artwork, or recover a lost advance for signing the wrong deal, they have a volunteer and small paid staff who specialize in entertainment and arts issues. I wish I had known about them before I got into a legal situation where I needed them after the fact.

PROS: low cost help for times when you haven't been treated fairly
CONS: can be a waiting list sometimes, not everybody qualifies
