Ratings_icons Great Store

Susan R.

Great selection. Staff will go to the back if you can't find your "flavor" or are looking for something. Wonderful meat and fish department; the best around.

The top people who live in Saratoga shop here. You
will find presidents of companies, football coaches and players, their wives, and they shop here because the produce, wine, meat, fish, and selection is five star.

My first and last experience at Gene's was was due to a rude employee Melissa Estrada, she was prejudice and made a rude remark. Prices and employees NOT worth shopping here.

Ratings_icons Very Cute and Wonderful, like the Old Mom & Pop Store

This Market is very cute! They treat their customers very nicely and get to know them like in the old Mom & Pop store (sort of like if you seen the cute little store in the movie The Housesitter with Goldy Hawn :) They will come and put your groceries in the car for you, even if you only purchased two bags! I really love this little store. They have a nice selection of the organic and pesticide-free produce. I come here a lot (and to Trader Joe's) and would highly recommend both of them.

Ratings_icons Watch out-> I fell on grapes on floor (good market otherwise)

Anonymous

Gene's is a great market especially for meats. However, be careful, especially if you are older or frail. Yesterday, on October 24th, 2007, I slipped on a couple of smashed grapes on the floor in the produce department.I fell to the ground! A worker was putting grapes out for shoppers. I had to insist that they mop up the floor so others wouldn't slip. I'm worried for other patrons since this could be dangerous.

Ratings_icons Pricey but OK!

Gene's features fresh and organic foods similar to Whole Foods. However, it is a much smaller store and the employees really get to "know you better". A little bit pricey which is what you can expect for an upscale market.

Employees are friendly and always willing to help since they aren't bombarded with customers like WHole Foods. Gene's has a nice fruits and cheese bar. If you want an alterantive to Whole Foods, come here

When I moved into the San Jose area, Gene's was the first upscale market I visited. It's a very clean market with great quality veggies and fruits and a wide selection of gourmet items (cheese, meats, etc). Prices are average for an upscale market, but occasionally, they'll have a good deal on common grocery items. Their quality on fresh items has been consistently good.
