.

When I was much younger, the St. Clair Inn was THE place to have your wedding, THE place for banquets, THE place for good service and great food, and they had THE reputation to beat in the area for all of the above.

Obviously, something has changed.

I've been to three separate events here recently; planned by three separate persons.

The first of them was a wedding. I was helping the bride's mother the morning of, and I watched in shock as she had to explain to the Inn's setup crew that yes, they DID have to sweep up the (obvious) debris from the night before's party (we're talking plastic cups, dust bunnies as big as my fist, etc) prior to setting up the tables for her daughter's reception! They had planned on leaving it! We left, after they said that they'd be happy to put the centerpieces on the tables and light the candles. Well, they broke all the candles. Dinner was good, but service was s-l-o-w, and it was obvious that they lacked servers.

Event number two, service was still slow, quite obvious that they lacked servers and barstaff, and the fish I ordered was lousy. This was supposed to be one of their "famous" entrees.

Event number three was the worst: too many persons were crammed into a room, it took more than two hours to get our entree after being served salads and bread. I'm sorry, but if it had been me who'd organized this banquet, I would not find that to be acceptable.

I've stayed at the hotel facilities once. I can't recall the exact price of the room, but it was well over $100. For that, we were entitled to a tiny room with a double bed and plumbing-deficient bathroom.
