I don't know where to begin! If you must live here, insist on an apartment that faces the courtyards, otherwise you'll deafened by the traffic on F Street or awakened by the sound of the trains screeching to a halt on H Street. Americana Arms advertises 'free internet,' but recently the apartment complex switched from Instaconnect wireless internet to another service. The apartment manager underestimated how many residents would be using the internet at any given time, so you often disconnect from the internet several times an hour or can't connect at all. (By the way, she didn't really 'underestimate' the internet traffic. It was just cheaper to purchase less bandwidth.) You have to buy your own wireless adapater, which can run you from $35 to $80 (depending on the quality). The apartment manager, Leslie Try, monitors your internet usage. (You have to supply her your MAC address, which is on the back of your adapter.) If you download music or just use the internet too often, she'll either restrict your internet access by blocking your MAC address or she'll charge you. The buildings are cold and drafty during the winter and horribly hot in the summer. The air conditioners just don't cool down the apartment. On the website she says that your electricity and gas bill averages at about $30 a month, but during the summer my bill skyrocketed to as high as $96. During the winter my bill never fell below $35. There is no garbage disposal or dishwasher in the 'kitchen,' and the fixtures in the 'kitchen' and bathroom are original. I put quotes around 'kitchen' because it's not as much a kitchen as a section of the living room. It's just a stove, counter, sink, refrigerator, and small pantry all along the far wall of your living room. When I first moved in, I had a horrible ant problem. I put down a glass of lemonade on my coffee table and within two minutes I had ants crawling all over my glass.
