My family went to this restaurant, it was overly crowded and the service was horrible. There is a female who takes the phone orders when you walk into the restaurant, we asked her if we should give our name to her so that we can be seated

I have eaten at just about every Thai restaurant in the area and no place compares to Amarin Thai Cuisine. Everything I've tried has been superb -- especially the sea bass and the mango chicken. The sea bass just melts in your mouth and the mango chicken is delicious and the presentation gorgeous (you get two mango halves carved out, like boats, with chunks of chicken and mango and peppers in a delicious sauce. There are real orchids on the table and the decor is elegant (although a bit garish). Service was good, gracious, friendly, and efficient. Prices are a bit high, but worth it for the quality and the experience. Plus it's fun to walk up and down Castro Street to burn off the meal afterwards!

My family has visited Amarin on multiple occassions, always with good reviews on the quality of the food, however the portions do tend to be on the small side. On my son's sixteenth birthday we decided to return and were dissapointed in both the quality and of our dishes and the serivce we received. The hot and sour soup was good however we were shocked at the amount of woody ginger root that we had to set aside! The green chicken curry was flavorful enough however the dish would have been better named bamboo shoot curry - the chicken was almost nonexistent; at most we found 2 tiny chicken slivers in an abundant sauce with what appeared to be half a can of slivered bamboo shoots. Our tamarind shrimp was delivered cold to the table and contained only three shrimps of medium size despite the claim of containing jumbo shrimp. Once I was able to get a wait person to the table and gave them the information about our meal, I was promised a manager would be notified. The check was delivered to us with no response and no explanation. We noted on the way out that a banner in the window of the resturant touted Amarin as the best Thai Food of 2007 by the Mountain View Voice; however our family is sure there are much better Thai choices in the Bay Area for us to discover.

I think this is a pretty good Thai restaurant in the south bay area. I always like the international mix of crowd when I am here, and it is always busy. I specially like the Roasted duck with red curry dish and the Pork Basil. It's great with rice. The food is good, but sometimes when it gets busy, the service is slow. Or to be precise, it takes time to have a waiter come get your order. Once the order is in, it is pretty fast. But overall, I like this place as a "easy" thai food place.

Went there with 4 co-workers for Thursday lunch. When I ordered my pad thai, I pointed to #1 pad thai that contains chicken and shrimp for $7.95. When the bill comes, I'm charged $9.95. We ask the waitress to correct this mistake. She says I ordered shrimp only, which costs $9.95. I told her that that was not what I wanted and if the dish came as shrimp only, it was their mistake, not mine, and I shouldn't be charged for that. She realizes this is her mistake and confirms that I had ordered #1. She talks to the owner to get a price adjustment and comes back accusing me of ordering a dinner portion, which would be $9.95 anyway. This is completely outrageous because I was clearly handed the lunch menu and she confirmed that I had ordered #1 for $7.95. The owner hears our continued discussion with the waitress and yells, "It's not a big deal!" in reference to our concern over the 2 bucks, which is completely rude and unprofessional. I could care less about the 2 bucks. At this point, it was the principle, not the 2 bucks. We get the corrected bill back and I saw that I was being charged $8.95 instead of $9.95. At this point, I was just really irritated. We grabbed the attention of another waiter finally got it resolved. I would not recommend this place because of the bad customer service and their condescending attitude. Their food is mediocre anyway. If they put that much MSG in their food, at least make it taste good.

This place has the tables where you take your shoes off, climb up a couple of stairs and sit on benches with pillows. They only have these tables for the right sized group, otherwise you sit at the regular tables. The food is pretty good. I like the pad thai and the must have fried rice.

I've only been to this place for lunch and I usually order out of their lunch menu. They have a very good selection of vegetarian and some interesting dish (like smiling tofu). The food is pretty good but it could be a little bit salty at times.

Amarin serves huge portions at good prices. The Bangkok Chicken is to die for!! They have a nice lunch menu and a lot of outdoor seating on Castro and in the back patio. I prefer the street seating. Pad-see-ewe is my favorite noodle dish and the size is perfect for lunch. We have eaten here many, many times and never been disapppointed!! It is always clean, has a pleasant atmosphere, and provides quick service!!

Pros: reliable fresh good food

Cons: no refills on soda, parking can be tough on Castro

We like this restaurant a lot for its reasonably priced dishes. Lunch time buffet is not very impressive. We prefer to order a la carte. They also serve a generous Rum and Coke. Lots of Rum and very little Coke! :-)

I was so eager to try this place after it getting great reviews on this website. Boy was I let down. I went on the weekend, sat outside. First of all the service and the woman who served us was ruuuuudeeeeeee... the food is just bLAH. We ordered pad thai and some other dish but it was so disappointing. it was bland the portions were small too. the only advantage is that it was the only few open on the weekend for lunch. theres another thai place next to it but it was closed.

I went to this place with my family on Father's Day based on the generally good user reviews here.

We ordered 5 dishes. First, service was extremely slow (let's chalk that up to Father's Day). Of the 5 dishes, I would say 2 were flat-out bad (Beef Broccoli with Oyster sauce, Chicken Panang) and 3 were just extremely ordinary (House Special Fried Rice, Rock Cod Deep Fried Option 3, Spring Rolls).

Service was friendly and nice, although they did seem disappointed that we weren't ordering drinks.

My wife and I agreed halfway through - "we don't have to come back here."

This place has it all! There food and the service were great! If I have those 2 things, then my night is set! They have a big selection (vegetarian, too) and everything I've tried has been fantastic. My favorites are the Papaya Salad (Som Tum), Shrimp Pad Thai, Chicken or Duck Panang Curry, and my new favorite, Honey Pork. The service is fantastic. Their attentive and friendly EVERY time. If you like spicy food, you can vary the heat with a 1-5 heat system. Also try the pickled jalapenos (not thai chiles) in the little pepper rack with your meal. You have to ask for it and it goes along great with your meal. Adds even another layer of flavor. They're not open all day, so make sure you check the dining hours. They also have outside tables if it's one of those sunny days.

Loved the food, service, atmosphere. Downtown Mountain View provides for free parking for the restaurants and businesses along Castro. I'm not a big fan of Thai food, but will happily come here to eat any time!

I love Thai food and this place is just great. These guys know how to spice up food just right. The low seats where you kinda squat down to eat is very cool. It is convieniently located on castro street and if you know the free parking spots around castro, its very accessible. Highly recommended.

This is probably one of the best thai food restaurant at silicon valley. I love their baked seafood dish. It is just way too unique and tasty. They also have a wide range of vegetarian dish selections. Amarin has a great eating atmosphere at the heart of Mountain View Castro. I really recommend people trying their seafood dishes as well as green curry + sticky rice!!! Their mango chicken rocks as well!

Amarin thai has undoubtedly the best variety of vegetarian Thai cuisine for thai food lovers. Its Soups are great and so is Fried Rice.
But be prepared for racism because, if you are an indian they might have a racist attitude. I say this because 2nd time we went to that restaurant, those people were cold, made us wait and sit in a shabby corner, food was not upto mark. They messed up with the order we made. All the more staff was staring at us when we told them to get the correct order, as if we were aliens. On top of that they expect us to pay 10% tip. Hah!

Working in Mountain View everyone one knows that Castro st. has a lot of restaurants. Especially Thai Restaurants, 4 within walking distance of each other. But I had the pleasure of going to Amarin for the first time with some co-workers and WOW!! I'm the type of person that my emotions for the rest of the day directly reflected by how lunch was. I was floating on a cloud after the meal, I could not stop smiling. It was so GOOD that I took my wife that very night. We now go atleast, if not more, than once a week. I recommend The House special Fried Rice, Honey Beef, Garlic Prawns, AND THE SPRING ROLLS. Don't foget the mango sticky rice or the fried bananna with ice cream.
